무용평문에 나타난 비유적 시어연구 : 김영태를 중심으로

Abstract

본 논문은 무용작품을 해석·평가·기술하는데 있어서 비평언어의 연구로 초점을 맞추었다. 무용예술에 대한 비평은 타 예술에 비하여 짧은 역사와 무용예술의 특수성으로 인하여 타 예술비평에 비해 이론적 근거나 체계적 판단기준도 없을 뿐만 아니라 작품을 표현할 수 있는 적절한 비평의 언어가 없어서 어려움이 많은 것이 사실이다. 우리나라의 무용비평계의 경우, 예술작품에 대한 예술적 감각이 살아있는 언어를 고려하지 않은 일상적이며 추상적인 산문의 형태로 인상주의적 평문이 양산되고 있는 실정이다. 이러한 상황은 딱딱하고 무미건조한 주관적인 보고문 형식의 평문으로 나타났다. 연구자는 이러한 문제점들을 해결하기 위한 노력의 일환으로 무용비평 언어로써 비유적 시어를 제시해 보고자 하였다. 여기서 비유적 시어란 사물간의 대립이나 긴장관계를 통하여 새로운 정서나 감수성을 유발하고자 언어를 병치시키는 역설적인 것으로, 그 언어가 서술하는 바를 객관적으로 의미하지는 않는다. 왜냐하면 비유적 시어는 전이·이월의 형식으로 새롭거나 넓거나 특수하거나 보다 더 정확한 의의를 달성하기 때문이다. 그러므로 비유적 시어는 구체어와 특수어가 표현적 기능과 미적 기능을 살려주는 개념적 의미, 지식적 의미, 감정적 의미, 연상적 의미, 주제적 의미들을 잘 함축하기 때문에 반드시 추상어 보다는 구체어를, 일반어 보다는 특수어를 사용해야 한다. 이로써 비유적 시어는 순간적인 움직임을 비평하는 언어로 핵심적인 것이다. 이에 따라 본 비평 방법론에서는 비유적 시어로 무용평을 하고 있는 김영태의 평문을 중심으로 타 평문을 비교·분석하였다. 이에 연구자는 그들이 평하는 언어의 특성들이 실제적으로 쓰여지고 있는 평문의 언어형태들로 판단하였다. 그리고 그들이 제시한 언어형태가 무용비평의 언어를 실제적으로 구성하는 대표적 카테고리로 관찰할 수 있는 시각을 제공한다고 보았다. 이에 무용비평 언어를 움직임 서술의 비유적 시어 , 맥락적 지식의 비유적 시어 , 가치평가의 비유적 시어 로 나누어 비교·분석해서 각 분야에서 비유적 시어의 활용과 방법을 추출하였다. 움직임 서술에서는 비유적 시어중 직유가 보다 탁월했으며, 맥락적 지식의 서술에서는 은유·직유가, 그리고 가치평가의 서술에서는 은유가 적합한 언어형식이 였다. 그 결과 비유적 시어의 전이·이월 성격은 무용을 평하는데 있어서 적합한 언어라는 사실을 발견할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 무용비평에 대한 실제경험 없이 문헌연구와 연구자 개인적인 비교, 분석만으로 모색되었기 때문에 비유적 시어를 실제 활용하거나 적용하는데 미처 고려하지 못한 부분이 있다고 본다. 그러므로 본 비유적 시어를 실제 활용하는 데 필요한 추후 논의가 후속적으로 연구될 필요가 있다. ; This study focused on critical languages in interpreting, judging, and describing works of dance. The criticism on an art of the dance is not supported by any theory nor has any systematic standard of judgement and proper critical languages to express works, for it has particularity and a short history compared with criticisms of other arts. The dancing criticism circles of Korea are mass-producing impressionistic criticisms in an ordinary and abstract style, not considering any language with artistic sense on works. These circumstances leads to criticisms in hard, prosaic and subjective report style. This study, as a part of effort to solve these problems, aimed at presenting figurative poetic words for a language of dancing criticism. The figurative poetic words paradoxically ranks languages together to induce new emotions or sensibilities though confrontation or strained relation between things, without saying objectively what the words mean. That s because the words communicate new, broad, unique, or more accurate meanings by changing and carrying forward. Therefore, figurative poetic words necessarily needs concrete and specific words rather than abstract and general ones respectively, for concrete and specific words can imply conceptual, informational, emotional, associational, subjective meanings giving life to expressive and aesthetic functions. Thus figurative poetic words are essential to the language to criticize momentary motions. This study conducted comparative analysis on criticisms by extra critics centering around that by Kim Young-tae criticizing dances in figurative poetic words. The words used by them were judged as those of criticisms used practically. Besides, it was thought that the words presented by them offer visions to observe representative category constructing languages of dancing criticism substantially. Therefore, this study was conducted from the category of figurative poetic words on the basis of what the critics present. The languages of dancing criticisms were divided into figurative poetic words to describe motions , those for contextual knowledges , and those to estimate values for comparative analysis to show usages of figurative poetic words in each field; keynotes which should be considered in using figurative poetic words in each field were also considered. The simile is appropriate for those to describe motions, metaphor-simile for those for contextual knowledges, and metaphor for those to estimate values, among figurative poetic words. This shows that characteristics of figurative poetic words, transition and carrying forward, make the words appropriate to criticize dances. These figurative poetic words are insufficient to use or apply actually, for they were studied only by studies on literatures and personal comparative analysis without actual experience on dancing criticism. Therefore, further studies are needed to use these figurative poetic words actually.
