'소대성전'의 文體論的 硏究

Abstract

본 논문은 방각본 <소대성전>의 文體에 관한 연구이다. 현대문학 분야의 경우 고소설에 비해 문체연구의 방법을 먼저 받아들여 상대적으로 고소설에 비해 많은 문체연구 성과들이 있다. 고소설의 경우 1980년대 문체연구의 필요성이 제기되긴 하였으나 문체에 관한 연구들이 많이 축적되지는 못한 상황이다. 고소설 역시 언어를 표현 수단으로 하는 예술임을 생각할 때 고소설의 문체 연구는 고소설에 대한 이해의 폭을 확대 할 수 있을 것이다. 그렇기 때문에 실제적인 연구는 많이 이루어지지 않았어도 고소설의 문체연구에 대한 필요성은 지속적으로 인식, 주장되어 왔다. 기존의 고소설 연구가 철학이나 역사, 혹은 사상 등과 연결 지어지면서 소설 외재적인 측면에서 중점적으로 연구되었다면, 문체연구는 작품을 구성하는 내재적 요소인 언어에 주목함으로써 내재적인 소설 분석을 가능하게 하는 방법이라고 볼 수 있다. 내재적인 요소를 통한 분석이 이루어지고, 이러한 분석이 외적인 요소들과 종합될 때 보다 깊이 있게 하나의 작품이 연구될 수 있다고 생각 하에 본 논문이 시도되었음을 I장에서 밝혔다. II장에서는 <소대성전>의 구체적 문체 분석에 앞서, 기존 고소설의 문체연구들을 검토하고 보완할 점을 살펴보고 그리고 본 논문에서 사용하게될 문체분석의 방법론을 제시하였다. III장에서는 구체적으로 어휘, 통사, 구성적 층위에 따라 <소대성전>을 분석했다. 어휘적 층위에서는 前代 문학의 영향을 받은 한문투 중심의 어휘의 사용과 소설의 분위기를 형성하는 정적, 동적 어휘의 효과적 배치에 대해 살펴보았으며 통사적 층위에서는 수식어와 서술어의 기능, 같은 구조의 반복으로 이루어진 복문이 소설 내에서 담당하는 기능을 살펴보았다. 구성적 층위에서는 다양한 유형의 삽입문이 소설 내에서 담당하는 기능, 영웅성을 탐색, 확인하는 과정에 집중되어있는 말과 장면, 그리고 화소에 따라 다르게 이루어지는 장면 구성법 등을 살펴보았다. IV장에서는 III장에서 분석한 문체적 요소들을 종합하여 방각본 <소대성전> 문체의 美的 特性과 문체사에 있어서 <소대성전>과 같은 방각본 국문 영웅, 군담 소설이 갖는 의의를 살펴보았다. 방각본 <소대성전>의 美는 방각본의 향유방식과 향유층의 의식의 상관관계 속에서 삶 속에 존재하는 문제와 그 문제를 인식하고 풀어 가는 과정을 대변하는 긴장과 이완의 기능적 조절에서 찾을 수 있다고 보았다. 그리고 문체사적 측면에서는 초기 방각본 유형인 <소대성전>의 향유방식과 상업적 측면을 먼저 살펴보았다. 그리고 기존가치의 확인 에서 소설적인 탐색 으로 넘어가는 초기 방각본 국문 소설의 문체적 특성을 살펴보았으며, 前代 문학의 전통을 흡수하기도 하고, 개화기 근대 국문소설 문체 성립에 영향을 주기도 하는 교량적 역할을 담당한 것에서도 초기 방각본 소설인 <소대성전> 문체의 사적 의의를 찾아보았다. 본 논문은 <소대성전>의 문체분석을 함에 있어서 궁극적으로 방각본 고소설의 문체가 지니는 미적인 측면은 통속적이다, 저속하다라는 가치판단보다는 방각본을 향유했던 향유층 들의 입장에서 그들과 정서적으로 교감을 할 수 있었던 방각본만의 특성에서 찾아야 한다는 입장을 유지하였다. 그러한 시각을 바탕으로 방각본 고소설이 지니는 미적 측면을 단순히 구술성이라는 표면적인 향유방식이나, 대중성, 상투성이라는 측면에서 찾는 기존 논의를 수정, 보완하여 <소대성전>이라는 하나의 작품이지만 이 작품을 통해 대변되는 초기 방각본 소설이 지니는 미적 특질에 대해 살펴보려 노력하였다. 본 논문은 방각본 <소대성전>이라는 하나의 장르, 한 작품에 대한 문체분석이므로 고소설 문체 전반에 있어서는 일부분이다. 보다 많은 작품에 대한 구체적인 문체연구와 다양한 장르에 대한 연구를 통해 고소설 문체의 특성을 밝혀내는 것은 앞으로의 과제로 남겨둔다. ; This thesis is a study on the stylistics of the published version of <Sodaesoˇngchoˇn>(蘇大成傳). Since the stylistics approach was introduced to modern literature before classic novel(古小說), there exist relatively more research results in the field. Although the need for more insight on stylistic approach on classic novel(古小說) surfaced in the 1980s, the results are not yet satisfying. Extended on the notion that classic novel(古小說) is an art which uses the language as a means of expression, study on stylistics should help to better understand the works. For this reason, people have continuously recognized and maintained the need for more research in this field. Research in the past on classic novel(古小說) have been conducted in relation to philosophy, history and ideologies, primarily based on the extrinsic aspects of the works, while the stylistic approach focuses on the interior aspects such as the verbal words, which makes possible an intrinsic analysis. When an intrinsic analysis comes together with extrinsic elements, a research study can be conducted in depth. It is stated in chapter 1 that the purpose of this study is based on this confirmation. To begin with, chapter II indicates the problems shown in the past stylistic approaches and presents the method this thesis has selected. Chapter III specifically analyzes <Sodaesoˇngchoˇn>(蘇大成傳) through the verbal, syntax, and composition structural form. In the section of verbal analysis, due to the effect of the past literature, Chinese characters are widely used and the contents are written in the literature expression. The section of syntax deals with the function of modifiers and predicates and the lengthening of sentences. The structural section discusses the functions of various styles of inserted sentences and the consistent effort in search of heroism. In addition to this, it deals with the different methods of composing scenes due to various motives. Chapter IV integrates the analyzed results from the previous chapter and discusses the aesthetic characteristics of the published <Sodaesoˇngchoˇn>(蘇大成傳) and the meanings of the Korean heroic novel. The aesthetic value of the published <Sodaesoˇngchoˇn>(蘇大成傳) can be found in the functions that stretch and contract as people find problems and try to solve them. Problems that exist in the relation between the way people enjoyed the works and what consciousness those people had at the time. The historical aspect primarily focuses on how the people possessed the early published version of <Sodaesoˇngchoˇn>(蘇大成傳) and the commercial aspects. The characteristics of the early published version is described in depth in this thesis. Historical meanings were sought in the bridge role the early published version of <Sodaesoˇngchoˇn>(蘇大成傳) played where it absorbed the tradition of modern literature and influenced the establishment of the modern Korean novel style. Throughout the study, it is clearly stated that through the analysis of the stylistics of <Sodaesoˇngchoˇn>(蘇大成傳), the aesthetic value can be found in the mental common bond that existed between the people who enjoyed the work and the <Sodaesoˇngchoˇn>(蘇大成傳) itself; not in the common thought of the classic novel style being vulgar and merely popular. Based on this perspective, the aesthetic aspect of the published <Sodaesoˇngchoˇn>(蘇大成傳) is not simply a superficial method of enjoyment like the oral tradition, or popularity and conventionality like some former studies have claimed. This study modifies these past arguments and concentrates on showing the aesthetic value represented by the published <Sodaesoˇngchoˇn>(蘇大成傳). This thesis is a stylistic approach on the <Sodaesoˇngchoˇn>(蘇大成傳) itself and on the classic Korean novel genre, therefore this is not a complete stylistic analysis on the whole classis novel. Further study in depth in the field of classic novel stylistics is required in the near future to obtain a clearer understanding of the works.
