열대어를 통한 화기조형 연구

Abstract

In the multicultural society, public s attention for the importance of life space has become larger. Moreover, this modern society has formed by people who has individual life style and seeks after emotional happiness. Therefore, artists have a role to communicate with the society by the art works, which are based on usual life and respond to public. Nature, the harmonious beauty, can be the great motif, which gives unlimited energy and desire to artists. Also, expressing nature itself can be perfect creative work. That is main reason that I chose a tropical fish as the theme of my work, and I set up a purpose to express my personal sense in my sculptural ceramic pieces. These days, it is highlighted that Korean naturalism and Western minimalism match well together. I focused on putting this good match into sculptural flower vases. To work with the basic theme, I made researches in shape of tropical fishes and the history of flower vases for theoretical background. Also, I studied other artists works that are related with fish form. In my work, I simplified the shape of fish or gave a vivid description of it, and also, I tried to express the organic line of tropical fishes. Changing fish s shape could be helpful method to satisfy all conditions, and I used many different ways for it such as omission, reduction, extension and exaggeration. Flower vases are functional ware that we can meet in everyday life, so I made an attempt to give pleasure to viewer and let them realize artwork is rather close to life. I thought the slip casting, which is suitable for repeat production, could be the best way to express the delicate line and smooth surface of my work. Also, slap building was fit for figurative part. I used the superwhite clay and clear glaze or no glaze for most pieces, and same time, I used the coiling technique and colorful glaze for stoneware works. Besides, Dunkan and colored glaze were used for some work by various glazing technique such as atomizing, dipping, spraying and brushing. In biscuit firing, Dunkan and no glazed pieces were fired up to 1000°C and the rest were fired up to 900°C for 8 hours in 0.14㎥ electronic kiln. In glazing firing, Dunkan glazed work were fired up to 1000°C again for 10 hours and the rest were oxidation fired up to 1250°C for 11 hours in same kiln. The only exception was celadon glazed work which was reduction fired up to 1280°C for 9 hours in 0.7㎥ gas kiln. Through choosing tropical fishes that can be easily seen from our life as the theme and researching its shape, I could extend my sight and sense toward nature. At first, I used the realistic describing technique, and in the process of study, I found that the figure of my work was able to re-form freely by recomposing it. Also, I found that a flower vase itself could have enough beauty without any flowers, and I ascertained the infinity creative ability of clay through the various experience with it. Each flower vase has the independent beauty, but when it stands together, they can make new interdependent form. In conclusion, from the working process, I realized that researches and experiments are continuously needed for successful figuring work. ; 문화의 다양성과 함께 복잡다단해진 사회 구조 속에서 생활공간에 대한 배려는 그 중요성의 인식이 증대되고 있다. 현 사회는 서로 다른 개성적인 생활양식을 가지고 정서적으로 행복한 삶을 추구하는 집단들로 이루어져 있다. 따라서 예술가들은 보통의 생활에 기본을 두면서 다양하게 사회집단들과 교감할 수 있는 작업으로 사회와 소통할 역할을 가진다. 조화로운 미를 가진 자연은, 그 자체를 표현하는 것만으로 충분한 창작의 근원이 되어, 작업의 욕구와 에너지를 부여하는 주제이다. 자연의 일부인 열대어를 조형의 주제로 생각하여 본 연구자는 도자조형으로 주관적인 심성을 통해 표현하는 데에 목적을 두었다. 가까운 몇 년 사이, 한국성을 나타내는 자연주의와, 서구의 미의식과 통하는 미니멀리즘(minimalism)이 이질적이지 않고 서로에 필요한 존재로 어울려 만나는 것이 부각되고 있다. 화기조형에 있어서 이 둘의 조화가 자연스럽게 이루어지는 것에 목적을 두어 작업하였다. 열대어가 가지는 조형성에 대해 참고문헌을 통하여 일반적인 열대어의 형태를 살펴보았으며 연구의 이론적 배경으로서 화기의 역사를 알아보았다. 또한 물고기를 주제로 한 화기의 작품사례를 조사하여 작품제작에 참고하였다. 열대어를 화기와 조화시키는 부분에 있어, 절제된 형태에 열대어가 가진 형태를 단순화하거나 사실적으로 묘사하여 접목하는 작업과 열대어의 유기적인 선의 이미지를 조형으로 표현하는 작업을 하였다. 주제의 단순한 재현이 아닌 변형을 통한 창의적 표현이, 열대어에 대한 사실적인 접근에서 시작하여 생략, 축소, 확대, 과장 등의 변형을 통하여 나타나도록 하였다. 일상을 통해 접하는 화기로서 미적인 감동이 전해질 수 있도록 최대한 조형성을 추구하여 미술이 일상과 가깝게 있고 즐거운 것임을 느낄 수 있도록 하였다. 작품제작에는, 작품에서 나타나는 선의 섬세하고 정밀한 부분의 표현과 매끄러운 질감의 표현에 적합하며 반복제작에 있어 유용한, 석고틀을 사용한 슬립주입성형방법을 주로 하였다. 또한 석고판 위에 슬립을 부어 판으로 굳힌 후 조형적인 부분을 판 성형방법으로 제작하였다. 소지는 백색도가 적합한 슈퍼화이트를 사용하여, 대부분 무유와 투명유로 시유하였다. 석기질 점토가 적합한 작품은, 코일링성형방법으로 작업한 후, 소지와 조형 의도에 부합하는 색유로 시유하였다. 이 밖에도 작품에 따라 던컨유(DUNCAN)와 색유를 사용하여, 붓으로 바르거나 담금법, 스프레이건을 사용한 분무법으로 시유하였다. 1차소성은 0.14㎥의 전기가마에서, 무유작품과 던컨유(DUNCAN)로 시유할 작품은 최고 온도 1000℃까지 8시간 동안, 나머지는 최고 온도 900℃까지 8시간 동안 소성하였고, 2차소성은 0.14㎥의 전기가마에서, 던컨유(DUNCAN)로 시유한 작품은 최고 온도 1000℃까지 10시간 동안, 나머지는 최고 온도 1250℃까지 11시간 동안 산화염 소성하였다. 단 청자유로 시유한 작품은 0.7㎥의 가스가마에서 최고 온도 1280℃ 내외까지 9시간 동안 환원염 소성하였다. 주변에서 쉽게 접할 수 있는 열대어를 연구의 주제로 설정하여 형태적 고찰을 통해 작업에 반영함으로써 자연에 대한 새로운 시각과 영감을 확장시키게 되었다. 사실적인 표현에서 시작한 열대어의 조형화가 작업이 진행됨에 따라, 형태의 재해석에 의해 무한하게 재창조될 수 있음을 알 수 있었으며 꽃을 꽂지 않은 화기 조형 자체로 충분한 아름다움을 가질 수 있었다. 흙을 통한 다양한 표현의 경험으로, 조형의 구현에 대한 흙의 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다. 화기들은 하나의 개체로서 독립성을 갖지만, 군집을 이루거나 조형의도에 의해 배치함으로써, 상호의존적으로 새로운 한 형태를 이루는 미적효과를 보았다. 작업을 하면서 발생한 문제점을 해결하고 개선해 가는 과정을 거치면서, 조형의 효과적인 표현을 위해 연구와 실험이 계속하여 뒷받침되어야 함을 알았다.
