현대여성을 주제로 한 풍자적 일러스트레이션 연구 : Gestalt 이론을 활용한 작품제작을 중심으로

Abstract

오늘날 현대사회와 같이 교육수준과 삶의 질적 향상, 정보영역의 확대 등으로 자신이 속한 환경과 사회에 대한 기대치가 더욱 높아진 현대인들에게 있어 풍자 일러스트레이션은, 그들의 욕구와 사회적 기대 사이에서의 부조화를 해소 시키기 위한 매개체로써 현대사회에서 중요한 기능의 역할을 한다. 이는 풍자(諷刺) 에서 보여지는 비판 이미지를 통해 많은 사건과 이슈들을 매일 접하는 현대인들에게 어떠한 해소(解消)를 통한 쾌감까지 안겨주기 때문이다. 따라서 풍자 일러스트레이션은 본질적으로 공격적이고 비판적인 성격의 예술장르 이다. 풍자 의 공격적 성격의 중심에는 문제를 수정하려는 의도가 담겨 있기 때문에 궁극적으로는 긍정적인 가치를 보존하려는 것이 목적이다. 풍자 일러스트레이션은 현실에 대한 부정적/비평적 근거에서 시작하지만, 기본적인 태도는 결코 부정으로 끝내지 않고 적극적인 문제의 제시로써 우리로 하여금 생각하게 하는 그림 이라 정의 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서 풍자 일러스트레이션을 통해 문제로써 제시하고자 하는 대상은 바로 여성에 대한 변하지 않는 의식 이다. 특히 우리나라와 같이 유교사회로부터 이어진 여성에 대한 왜곡(歪曲)된 의식은 세대를 이어가며 아직도 우리사회에 일반화된 상식세계로써 자리잡고 있기 때문이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 풍자 일러스트레이션을 통해 현대 여성에 대한 변하지 않는 의식구조를 대중에게 제시하고 문제의식을 고취하며 나아가 올바른 개선방향으로 이끌어 내고자 한다. 이 과정에서 대중으로부터 공감대(共感帶)를 불러일으키는 것은 가장 중요한 일이며, 공격적인 성격의 풍자적 표현이지만 의미를 전달함에 있어, 대중으로 하여금 어두울 수 있는 공격적 성향의 적대감을 줄이고 동시에 울분을 발산(發散)시키며 쉽게 공감을 얻을 수 있는 표현 방법을 연구 하고자 하였다. 따라서 시각적인 표현방법으로 게슈탈트(Gestalt)의 이론을 연구하여 작품에 활용함으로써 전체의 하나의 이미지가 두 가지 혹은 그 이상의 의미로 발생하여 보여지는 시각형태의 효과로 대중들에게 시각적인 흥미와 호기심을 유발시키고자 하였다. 이와 같은 시각적인 흥미와 호기심으로 인한 대중들의 적극적인 참여로 생각하게 하는 그림 으로서 풍자 일러스트레이션에서 주는 효과에 대해 연구 하고자 한다. ; In the current society, people generally have higher expectation level toward where he/she is living due to increasing educational background, higher quality of life, and expanded information sources. For them, illustration is now playing very important functional role as a means of removing the gap between their needs and social expectation since those imagery expression through satire can convey and deliver sort of spiritual catharsis to modern human beings facing with countless accidents and social issues. In this sense, satiric illustration is an artistic genre, originally having offensive and critic nature. At the center of its offensive nature, however, satire has the intentional will to correct social issues criticized. Therefore, it can be said that the main purpose of satire is to preserve positive social value at the end. Although a satiric illustration begins with negative and criticizing angle toward current society, its basic nature is trying to convey social message on those issues and let people take problem-solving process. That s why we define satiric illustration as artistic expression to let people think over . In this study, the object to be criticized and presented through satiric illustration is the social perspective on women, which is never changed so far. Historically deep-rooted Confucian culture created skewed mind-set about women in the society, and maintained it from generation to generation. In this study, I escalated and analyzed the social issue of the never-changing social mind-set toward women through visual presentations of satiric illustration, and presented positive direction to correct the issue. In this communication process, it was very critical to get the shared perspective on this offensive issue and so, visual expression to be presented had to be easily approachable by general audience, without creating hospitality. For this, I focused on Gestalt theory as a means of visual communication. The basic concept of Gestalt theory is that human being perceive a visual object as one unified object, rather than component by component. As a result, Gestalt generally creates multi-meanings with a single visual artwork to audience, and this makes audience get more visual interest as well as higher involvement level.
