M. A. Balakirev의 Islamey에 나타난 러시아 민족주의 음악 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 러시아 민족주의 작곡가인 발라키레프(Mily Alexeyevich Balakirev, 1837- 1910)의 피아노 독주곡인 「이슬라메이」(Islamey)에 대한 음악적 구조와 어법을 살펴봄으로서 그의 민족주의 음악을 이해하는데 도움을 주기 위한 연구이다. 19세기에서 20세기 초엽은 후기 낭만주의 양식이 쇠퇴하고 새롭고 다양한 실험적 형식들이 시도되었던 시기이다. 특히 이 시기의 많은 작곡가들은 고전화성에서 탈피하려고 노력하였고 상징주의, 표현주의, 민족주의 등의 각종 사조들을 발전시켰으며 과거 어느 때보다 다양한 음악기법들을 시도하였다. 그중 민족주의 음악은 19세기 초 러시아에서 생겨난 것으로 민속적 자료. 즉, 민요나 노동요 등을 소재로 하여 작곡하는 음악의 한 양식이다. 러시아 5인조 중에 하나인 발라키레프는 그의 작품에 민속가락을 사용하여 정통 유럽음악의 바탕에 민족적 어법에 의한 선법, 선율, 화성 등의 특징들이 더해지는 새로운 양식의 음악을 작곡하였다. Oriental Fantasy 라는 부제가 붙은 「이슬라메이」는 발라키레프의 대표적 민속음악으로 코카서스(Caucasus)지방의 민속적인 요소인 동양적인 선율과 리듬을 발전시킨 피아노 곡이다. 이 곡의 구조는 A, B, A와 A와 B의 요소가 확대된 Coda로 나눌 수 있으며 2개의 주제는 변주 기법에 의해 변형, 반복, 확대되고 있다. 여기에서는 민속적 요소로 다성음악적인 처리와 빈번한 박자의 변화 그에 따른 불규칙한 엑센트가 나타나고 있다. 또한 민요선율의 특징인 중세의 교회선법을 이용한 악절과 화음을 제시하고 있으며 러시아 예배의식 음계(The Russian Liturgical Scale)와 5음음계의 사용으로 러시아 특유의 음색을 잘 표현해주고 있다. 화성적인 특징으로 장조와 단조의 변화가 자주 일어나며 7도· 9도· 11도 같은 2옥타브 이상의 넓은 도약과 음폭의 사용, 교차리듬과 캐논기법이 곡의 전반적인 특징으로 나타나고 있다. 이러한 민요적 요소 외에도 복잡한 장식음 사용, 강약의 대조 등이 제시되고 있다. 이러한 특징을 통해 「이슬라메이」는 19세기 후기 낭만시대의 대표적인 피아노 작품이라고 볼 수 있다. 이상과 같이 M. A. Balakirev는 그의 대표작 「이슬라메이」에서 단순히 민요선율의 인용이 아닌 그것을 하나의 발전적 동기로 삼아서 독창적인 수법으로 작곡한 것을 알 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 19세기 국제적 현상으로 나타난 민족주의의 시대적 배경과 러시아 민요의 전반적인 특징에 대해 연구하고 이를 통해 발라키레프의 대표적 피아노 곡인 「이슬라메이」에서 민속적인 요소를 어떤 방법으로 이용하였는가를 고찰하려 한다. ; The purpose of this thesis is to help understand the Nationalism of Mily Alexeyevich Balakirev (1837- 1910), one of the Russian Nationalistic Composers, by means of the studying the frame and the mood of musical expression appeared in piano piece 「Islamey」. The 19TH century and the early 20th century are the time that post-romantism declined, and various empirical forms were tired. Composers tired to get out of classical harmony, and wanted to develope many kinds of thoughts such as Symbolism, Expressionism, Nationalism and so on. Nationalistic Music is the style which was generated in Russian at the early 19th century, and was composed with national materials, folk song, labor music etc. Mily Alexeyevich Blakirev was one of the Russian composers who used folk rhythm and composed a new type of music which was added up by nationalistic rhythm, harmony on the basis of classical European music. 「Islamey」, whose sub-title is "Oriental Fantasy" is a piano solo, developed with the oriental melody and rhythm that were the folk characteristics of Caucasus area. It shows a musical structure which has A- B-A′and a long Coda expaned with A & B. The subjects of 「Islamey」are often changed, repeated and expaned by Variation Technique and the main melody consists of narrow intervals of 2nd and 3rd. The Polyphonic treatment, the change of the tempo to the rhythms, the irregular accents, the change of major & minor keys, Medieval church mode used passage & harmony, the use of pentatonic scale, the use of Russian Liturgical scale, the use of drone bass to make of the traits of Russian folk musical instruments and the use of pedal point- all these can be found throughout the piece. Also it shows the characteristics of the late Romanticism which requires the high techniques, such as, the chromatic- passages, the contrast of dynamic, the harmony of 7th, 9th & 11th chords, the jump of over 2 octaves, the intersecting rhythms and the use of canon technique, the wide range sound and complicated ornamental sound. From the above, we can conclude that M. A. Balakirev, using a creative technique based on one of developmental motives, composers his representative work 「Islamey」 without simple adoption of folk melody.
