현대 자수에 표현된 기하학적 패턴에 관한 연구 : 작품제작을 중심으로

Abstract

현대 미술은 물질의 세계를 재현하는 데 있어서 자연의 모습들을 색채 또는 최소한의 형태로 환원하여 추상이나 비대상 미술에 다다르는 경향을 보여왔다. 이러한 현상중 자연을 분석함으로써 얻어진 기하학적 형태는, 원, 사각형, 직선 등의 논리적이고 합리적인 기본 형태이며, 현대의 시대적 요구에 보다 순응하는 단순성, 명확성, 객관성 등의 요소로 인해 시각전달이 빠른 장점을 가지고 있다. 이러한 기하학적 형태로 이루어진 패턴은 현재까지 인간의 기본적 조형의지와 상징성을 표현하는 대안으로 사용되어 지고 있다. 오늘날 현대 미술은 탈 장르화와 종합예술로 진행되고 있으며, 현대자수 또한 다른 영역과의 교류와 함께 보다 새로운 개념으로 현대 미술로 자리잡고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 기하학적 패턴과 자수의 실에 의한 선적요소를 기초로 하여 현대 자수에 표현된 기하학적 패턴의 조형성과 부조적 형태 구성이 주는 시각적 양감을 효과적을 표현하는데 있다. 이론적 배경으로는 국내외 문헌과 작품을 조사하여 기하학적 형태 개념과 기하학적 패턴의 전개과정을 역사적으로 고찰하고, 현대 미술에 나타난 패턴을 분석하였다. 그리고 현대 섬유미술에 나타난 패턴의 경향과 현대 자수에 표현된 패턴의 표현방법과 화면구성을 살펴보았다. 작품구성에 있어서는 일상적인 도시공간을 관찰 대상으로 하여 그 중 건물의 형태를 기하학적인 형태로 단순화하였고, 작품 Ⅲ, Ⅳ에서 보여지는 자연풍경은 실크스크린(silk screen)을 이용한 것으로 화면 안에서 기하학적 형태와 대비 효과로 구성하였다. 작품의 재료로는 면, 수직실크, 노 방 등을 바탕 천으로 하였으며, 견사, 면사, 화학 사, 인견사 등으로 수를 놓았다. 부 재료로는 부조적 형태와 질감표현을 위해 우드락, 속수의 재료로 가는 나무 등을 용하였다. 기법적 측면에서는 건물 이미지를 위한 주된 표현으로 평수와 감기기법(coiling)을 이용하였다. 현대 자수에 있어서 여러 가지 기하학적 패턴의 표현방법으로 얻어진 작품을 제작 분석하여 다음과 같은 특징을 알 수 있었다. 첫째, 기하학적 형태는 함축적이고 절제된 표현에 가장 적합하였다. 둘째, 기하학적 패턴은 단순화된 형태의 반복으로 조형적 리듬 감을 표현할 수 있었다. 셋째, 실의 움직임이 하나의 선적인 표현요소로 등장하였다. 수평선, 수직선, 사선 등의 표현 및 방향성을 나타내기에 적절하였다. 넷째, 기하학적인 조직으로 짜여진 바탕천은 기하학적 구조로 기하학적인 패턴 표현에 효과적이었다. 이러한 바탕천은 그 자체로서 조형적 의미를 가진다. 다섯째, 기하학적 패턴과 자연 풍경이라는 상반된 요소들의 조합으로 대비효과를 얻을 수 있었다. 기하학적 패턴은 정적이며 단순하고 절제된 화면구성이 가능하였으며, 자연풍경은 기하학적 패턴에 의해 단조로울 수 있는 화면에 생명력을 부여하여 이중의 효과를 얻을 수 있는 장점이 있었다. 현대자수에 표현된 기하학적 패턴은 간결하고 명확한 조형요소로 사용될 수 있는 특징을 알 수 있었다. ; In representing the world of materials, modern art has had a tendency to restore images of nature into color or minimal form, resulting in abstractimism or non-objective art. Among such phenomena, geometrical forms resulted from analyzing nature are logical and rational base-cirde, rectangular, straight, etc., which have advantage in rapid visual delivery due to their simplicity, definiteness and objectivity that go with the demand of modern times. The patterns consist of such geometrical forms are used as alternative which represents basic will of modeling and symbolism of human being current trend of modern art points toward despecialization and total art, and embroidery also establishes itself as new concept in modern art exchanging with other fields. The aim of this works is, with geometrical pattern and linear element as base, expressing the visual massiveness arised from the shapes of geometrical pattern and composition of embossed carving, which are spreaded in modern embroidery. For theoretical background, concept of geometrical pattern and its progress are considered and analyzed from a historical point of view. Moreover, trend and expression techniques of pattern, and constitution of screen in modern art of textile are reviewed. In construction of artworks, with everyday spaces as object of observation, shapes of objects are simplified into geometrical form. In Case of artwork Ⅱ and Ⅲ, sceneries of nature are expressed in silk·screen, affecting mutually with geometrical forms. As main stuff for artworks, cotton, handweaving silk, ojang, and so on are used as ground materials, and silk-thread, cotton-thread, chemical-thread and rayon-yarn as embroidery stuff. For expressing the shapes of embossed carving and surface employed. In technical aspect, normal embroidery and rolling methods are utilized to express the images of building, and natural sceneries are presented freely. By analyzing artworks which are prepared with various expression techniques of geometrical forms, following conclusions are derived. First, geometrical pattern is a most suitable in implicative and cantinent expression. Second, in constituting artworks, by employing the method of connecting pieces, production of larger size artworks can be easily achieved. Each piece has different meaning and symbol. However, if they are integrated into one assembly in a screen, totally new meaving arises. Third usage of various ground stuff was suitable for the expression of geometrical pattern by geometrical structure of ground stuff. Ground stuff which presents structures of handweaving silk, vertical line, and horizontal line has characteristic meaning as itself. Fourth combination of unfamilar elements-geometrical pattern and natural scenery can give rise to contrast effect. Geometrical pattern is still, simple and can result in moderate construction of screen. Natural scenery infuse the liveliness into the screen which can be simple with geometrical pattern alone. Geometrical pattern expressed in modern embroidery represent vertical and horizontal characteristics in aspect of expression technique, and can be employed as simple and definite elements of modeling.
