생명의 특성에 대한 조형 표현 연구 : 세포의 관찰을 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구는 생명의 발생원리를 대자연인 우주의 발생원리와 동질의 것으로 보고 생명활동의 기본단위 인 세포가 거대한 우주를 품고있는 이미지로 조형화 하는 것을 연구한다. 인간의 생명 역시 하나의 세포에서 시작된다. 비록 작지만 안에서 성체의 모든 정보가 들어있을 뿐만 아니라 무한한 생명의 힘을 내포하고 있어 오히려 대자연의 위대함을 엿볼 수 있게 한다. 수정에 의해 만들어진 단세포는 자기복제와 분열의 과정을 거쳐 완전한 성체가 되고 같은 과정을 거쳐 생식세포를 만들며 또다시 수정을 통해 새로운 생명이 탄생한다. 세대를 거듭해가며 반복되는 이러한 생명의 순환과정은 자연의 큰 순환고리와 함께 돌아가고 있다. 아무리 미세한 생명체라도 생명을 유지하려면 대자연의 질서를 이행할 능력을 갖추어야만 하기 때문에 우리는 작은 세포하나에서도 우주만물을 지켜나가는 자연의 힘을 발견할 수 있다. 이러한 자연의 모습, 생명의 특성을 크게 순환성, 우연성, 다원성으로 나누었고 이에 따른 조형적 특성은 원형(圓形), 투명성, 무중력성, 우연성, 무한함, 다원성, 자기복제로 세분화 하였다. 세포를 통해 핵과 막으로 조형화 하는 과정에서 먼저 순환성을 구조적 순환성과 공간적 순환성으로 나누어 표현하였다. 첫째, 구조적 순환성으로는 원의 순환을 생각할 수 있다. 원의 순환이 공간을 가질 때는 나선을 이루고, 회전축을 가지면 구를 이루며, 내부의 팽창하는 힘을 가지면 타원과 난형을 이룬다. 핵을 겹겹이 둘러 싼 구의 덩어리는 꽉 찬 것을 이루는 동시에 겹겹이 사이에 들어있는 공간으로 인해 텅 빈 것이 되기도 한다. 둘째, 공간적 순환성은 형태를 이루는 표면을 투명하게 함으로써 표현한다. 표면을 뚫고 지나가는 빛이나 공기의 소통은 외부와 내부를 연결하고 3차원의 입체공간을 4차원의 유동적 공간으로 만들어주는 시각적 효과를 준다. 모든 투명한 물질은 겹칠수록, 혹은 다른 물질이 첨가될수록 불투명해진다. 완전히 투명한 공간은 내부와 외부의 경계가 없어 궁금할 것이 없다. 완전히 불투명한 공간 역시 외부에서 바라보는 내부의 핵의 모습을 완전히 차단하여 호기심을 단절시킨다. 그러나 점차로 투명에서 불투명으로 연결되어지는 공간은 호기심과 신비감을 가중시키다. 작품의 표현방법은 투명과 반투명의 표현을 섞어 씀으로써 각각의 특성을 대비시켜 강조했다. 셋째, 생명체의 가벼움, 부유하는 무중력의 느낌을 형태적으로는 바닥면과의 접점(接點)을 최소화한 둥근 형태로 표현하였고, 표면적으로는 투명하게 표현했다. 넷째, 생명의 신비를 나타내는 표현은 재료의 우연적 특성을 이용하였다. 이러한 표현은 작품 안에 자연의 생명원리를 담을 수 있도록 만들어 주는 겸손한 조형태도의 한 방법이다. 다섯째, 생명의 무한함을 안료의 겹쳐짐과 흩어짐에 따른 깊이와 넓이의 공간구성효과에 의해 표현했다. 여섯째, 다원적인 자연의 생명원리를 응축한 핵의 역동적 잠재력을 오팔지를 구겨 분해 시킨 가시광선의 수많은 반사면을 통해 표현했다. 일곱째, 세포막의 보호의 이미지와 생명의 소중함을 반복된 원의 복제와 분열, 중첩으로 표현했다. 본 작품의 제작을 통해 생명을 관찰하면서 느꼈던 막연한 아름다움과 살아있는 모든 것에 대한 새삼스러운 작은 감동을 관람자와 함께 느끼고자 하였다. 과학의 발달은 이제 새로운 우주의 모습을 제시하였고 답답하고 메마른 도시생활 속에서도 큰 우주를 가슴에 품는 것은 존재 자체를 자연스럽고 자유롭게 만들어 주기 때문이다. ; This paper takes the generating principle of life the same as that of the universe, and studies image of a cell-basic unit of life activity-bearing the huge universe. Human life also starts from a cell. Small but it includes all information of a grown body and a power of infinite life and it makes us feel the gratness of mother nature. A single cell made by fertilization becomes a completed grown body through self-duplication and dissolution makes a germ cell through the same process, and gives birth to a new life through fertilization again. This circulating process of life repeating generation by generation circle with a big circulating ring of nature. However small it may be, a life should be able to follow the order of nature in that even a small cell keep everything in the universe. Dividing the features of natures and life into major circulation, coincidence and pluralism, I segmented these modeling characteristics into roundedness, transparency, non-gravity, coincidence, pluralism and duplication, In the process of modeling a cell into nucleus and film, I first Expressed circulation dividing structural and space circulation. First, structural circulation include that of a circle. When a circle has space, it becomes a spiral, and when it has an amplifying power inside, it becomes a oval or ovalness. Alump of the sphere surrounding a cell nucleus becomes occupied or emptied, because of space overlapped in each layer. Second, space circulation is expressed by clearing the surface which composes forms. Light penetrating the surface of the ventilation of air connects the outside with the inside, and gives a visual effect to make three-dimensional space into four-dimensional flexible space. Every transparent thing becomesturbid as it get more overlapped or mixed with other materials. A perfectly transparent space draws no intention because there is no boundary between the inside and outside. A perfectly turbid space also blocks curiosity completely covering the features of the inside core when seen from the outside. However, space linked from transparency to turbidness raises curiosity and mysticism, Expression of work is emphasized by contrasting each characteristic and mixing the expression of turbidness and semi-transparency. Third, feelings of the lightness of life, floating non-gravity are expressed rounded with the contacting point of the floor in form, and transparent in the surface. Fourth, the expression of the mystery of life uses the coincidental characteristic of material. This expression is a way of humble attitude to create an art work closer to nature. The expression of vitality, which is the whole of infinite information that the nucleus has is made by the dissolution and accumulation of light. Fifth, the infinity of life is expressed by the space effect of depth and width according to the overlapping and dissoluting of a paint. Sixth, the dynamic potent power of nucleus, which is the core of nature s life principle, is expressed by the uncountable reflection aspects of visible rays. Seventh, the protection image of a cell film and precious life are is expressed by the repeated duplication dissolution and overlapping of a circle. Through the production for this study, I wanted to feel the impression of beauty in observing life and everything alive with viewers. The development of science suggests a new feature of nature, and bearing the great universe in our heart in dry urban life is because it makes the being itself natural and free.
