현대인의 일상적인 삶의 표현 : 현대사회의 인간성 상실을 중심으로

Abstract

Though the external life of a modern man becomes rich, question about materialized civilization and humanity recovery is continuously raised, suffering spiritual chaos by environment destroy, nuclear war and racial dissolution. Also, an individual in modern society lives not as the subject of prosperous material life, but as a mere acceptor. With the increase of contact between men and the media rather than between men and men, human beings live an inhumane life alienated from the society. The purpose of this study is to visualize the flow of the time unconsciously passing by, and image a modern man s life which the mutual communication isolated and inhuman of which mechanized. The contents of this study grope for modern men s daily life expression by visualizing the time flow through the overlapping, arrangement and repetition of materials and explain the motivation of choosing material and expression method. The concept of time in this study means the emphasis of consecutive and repetitive character of life from the pas to the present, and it is visualized through the overlapping of materials, Daily life is expressed as the alienation from the society with materials as by products of industry such as newspaper, synthetic resins, rubber plate, bolt, nut, nail and wire through the visualization of time. The study methods include literature survey and related work study(24 pieces), and work analysis is also accompanied. The subject of this study are the expression of daily life without humanity in modern society. The work materials of this study are paper, synthetic resins, silicon, rubber plate, wire, bolt, nut and nail, and they reflect the superficial features of materialized modern society. As a expression way, the flow of time is visualized through the overlapping of materials and the mechanized life of modern men is expressed through the repeated arrangement and overlapping. The point of view in analysis in this study is image expression of modern men s daily life without humanity presented though material use and expression skills for works with seven works made(7 pieces). The flow of time repeatedly continued in the process of production for this study is perceived by something accumulated, and visualized by accumulating newspaper and rubber plates, coiling and knitting. Accumulating or knitting materials gets accustomed just as unconscious manual work, and it makes feel the time. As a material of the routine, I chose the existence of human beings changed into articles of consumption in modern industrial society, and mixed newspaper, plastics and metals as byproducts of industry. That is, modern men trapped in machines and isolated, and their life was imaged by the frame of newspaper of rubbers, and metals were also used partly mixed with them. To emphasize limitation, isolated and incomplete human beings in modern society were expressed with embossing setting up, and sterile urban mood was expressed by mono-toned coloring. As a result, expression of inhuman modern man daily life is imaged into spiritually exhausted in the frame of urban space, and the frame is made of light and impractical materials as like newspaper and rubber to express the crisis of unstable modern life. the inhumane beings resist only with will power to overcome their life, but in vain, drawn with rubber of thin wire, tangled or mixed. Through this process, I experienced the wide and open possibility of a routine subject, and expanded recognition of reality by understanding and expressing human situation in relation with society, and realized the role of human beings as a positive plan of conflict solving. ; 현대에 이르러 물질적 풍요 속에서 인간의 외형적 삶은 윤택해져 가고 있지만, 환경의 파괴와 핵전쟁 등의 위협을 통해 현대인은 정신적 혼돈 상태를 겪으면서 물질 문명에 대한 회의와 인간성 회복에 대한 문제를 끊임없이 제기해 왔다. 또한 현대 사회에서 한 개인은 풍요로운 물질 사회에서 주체로서보다는 일방적인 수용자로서 살아가고 있으며, 인간과 인간의 접촉보다는 인간과 매체와의 접촉의 기회가 커지면서 인간은 사회로부터 소외되고 비 인간화된 삶을 살고 있다. 본 연구에서는 현대인의 일상적인 삶을 표현하여 풍요로운 사회에 대비된 개인의 소외된 삶의 모습을 문제로 제기하고자 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 무의식적으로 지나가는 시간의 흐름을 가시화 하여, 인간성을 상실한 현대인의 기계화되고, 상호적 소통이 단절된 일상적 삶을 형상화 하는데 있다. 본 연구의 내용은 재료의 중첩과 나열, 반복작업을 통해서 시간의 흐름을 가시화하여 현대인의 일상적 삶의 표현을 모색하였고, 사용된 재료의 선택 동기와 표현방법을 설명하였다. 본 연구에서 시간의 개념은 과거로부터 현대에 이르는 삶의 연속성과 반복성을 강조하는 의미이며, 재료의 중첩을 통해 가시화 된다. 일상적 삶은 시간의 가시화에 의해서, 신문지, 합성수지, 실리콘, 고무 판, 볼트, 너트, 못, 와이어 등의 산업부산물로서의 재료와 함께 사회의 중심부로부터 분리되고, 소통이 단절된 현대 사회 속에서 소외된 모습을 표현된다. 본 연구의 방법은 연구의 도구로 이론적 배경에서 사회학과 미술사에 관련된 문헌조사와, 현대미술사에서 일상적 삶을 표현한 관련작품을 24점 표출하였고, 작품제작 분석을 병행하였다. 본 연구의 대상은 인간성을 상실한 현대 사회의 일상적 삶의 모습에 대한 형상화이다. 본 연구에서 작품의 표현재료는 산업사회의 산물들로서 신문지와 합성수지, 실리콘, 고무 판, 철사, 와이어, 볼트, 너트, 못 등을 사용하여 현대사회의 물질화 된 외형적 모습을 반영하였다. 표현방법으로는 재료의 중첩을 통해 시간의 흐름을 가시화 하였고 반복적인 나열과 중첩의 제작과정을 통해 현대인의 일상의 단순화되고 기계화된 삶의 단면을 표현하였다. 본 연구의 분석관점은 분석대상의 연구작품은 7점을 제작하여, 작품의 재료 사용과 표현기법을 통해 나타난 인간성을 상실한 현대인의 일상적 삶의 단면에 대한 이미지 표현에 기준을 두었다. 본 연구의 작품제작 과정에서 반복적으로 지속되는 시간의 흐름은 무언가 쌓여져 있는 것들을 통해서 인식되는데, 본 연구에서는 신문지와 고무 판을 겹겹이 쌓고 가는 철사를 감고 뜨개질하는 방법을 통해서 시간의 흐름을 가시화 시켰다. 재료를 겹겹이 쌓거나 뜨개질하는 작업들은 무의식적인 손 작업처럼 익숙해 져서 그 작업 과정을 통해서도 시간을 느낄 수 있다. 일상적인 것에 대한 소재로 반복적인 삶의 틀과 현대 산업 사회 안에서 소모품처럼 기계화된 인간의 존재의 모습을 선택하여 산업 부산물들로써의 재료인 신문지와 플라스틱류, 금속류들의 재료들을 혼합하여 표현하였다. 기계화된 사회의 틀 안에 갇혀 소외된 현대인의 삶을 신문지나 고무류의 사각형의 틀을 통해서 형상화 시키고 금속성의 재료들을 결합시키거나 부분적으로 사용하여 표현했다. 현대 사회의 소외되고 불완전한 인간표현은 한계성을 강조하기 위하여 일면적인 설치작업으로 표현하였고, 무 색채 계열의 색채표현으로 삭막한 도시사회의 분위기를 연출하였다. 그 결과 비 인간화된 현대인이 일상적 삶의 표현은 삭막한 사각 틀의 도시공간에서 정신적으로 고갈되어 가는 모습으로 형상화되었는데, 그 틀은 가볍고 가변적인 재료인 신문지와 연성이 고무류로 제작하여 불안한 현대사회의 위기를 표현하였고, 비 인간화된 존재들은 마치 그들의 삶을 극복하려는 의지만을 가진 채 저항하지만 결국 그 틀을 벗어나지 못하고 있는 안타까운 형상으로 연성의 고무류나 가느다란 철사로 제작되어 흘러내릴 듯이 매달려 있거나 끌려가듯 조여 져 있거나 가늘게 엉킨 채 감겨져 있다. 이와 같은 과정을 통해서 미술에서 일상적인 주제가 가지고 있는 광범위하고 열린 가능성을 경험하였으며, 현대 사회의 인간 상황을 사회와의 관계 속에서 이해하고 표현함으로써 현실인식의 폭을 넓히고, 긍정적인 갈등해소의 모색으로써 인간의 역할을 재인식 할 수 있었다.
