일상적 삶을 통한 나르시스적 공간 표현

Abstract

우리의 일상생활은 다양한 양상으로 나타난다. 우리는 여행을 하고, 잠을 자고, 독서를 하고, 다른 사람들과 대화를 하거나 고독, 침묵, 비밀에 의해 그들로부터 유리되기도 한다. 이들에 대한 분석은 일상적 삶의 양식과 함께 예술작품 자체에 까지 이르는 통로를 제공해 준다. 본 연구는 일상생활에서 사소한 사물들을 만나는 것에서 시작 하였다. 이 만남이란 거울을 바라보거나, 시선을 끄는 사물을 수집하는 행위이다. 수집된 사물들은 주로 신체와 관련된 옷과 신발, 장신구, 그리고 꽃들로서 꿈과 이상이 투사되어 있었다. 또한 거울을 바라보며 현실의 삶을 회피하고 거울속에 반영된 이상적 자아(ideal - I)를 욕망하는 나르시스로서의 자아를 발견하게 되었다. 이러한 발견은 일상적인 삶을 통하여 사물과 삶의 관계에서 나타나는 나르시스적인 체험들을 표현하게 하였다. 이는 일상과 예술을 분리시키지 않고 일상적인 삶을 예술작품의 내용으로 삼아 그 과정에서 미학적인 가치를 발견하려는 시도인 것이다. 본 연구의 목적은 일상적 삶을 통한 나르시스적인 공간을 표현하는데 에 있다. 본 연구의 이론적 배경은 이상적 자아(ideal - I)에 해당하는 나르시스(Narcisse)와 외계의 사물을 향하여 투사하는 페티시즘(Fetishism)으로 제시하였다. 작품의 표현내용은 일상적 삶을 보여주는 나르시스적 공간인 ‘나의 방’을 제시하였고, 수집으로 이루어진 사물을 중심으로 일상에서 입었던 옷과 신발, 소지품, 의미가 깃든 꽃과 장신구, 그리고 여행에서 수집한 사물을 사용하여 표현 방법을 모색하였다. 작품의 분석은 제작된 7점을 대상으로 하여 이론적 배경과 표현 내용및 방법에 근거하여 이루어졌다. 본 연구에서의 ‘나의 방’은 일상의 삶이 반영된 공간이다. 살아가는 과정에서 삶을 사랑하고 또 고뇌하는 방으로서, 마음속에 내재되어 있는 욕망이 발견되는 장소이기도 하다. 이 욕망을 충족하기 위하여 사물을 향하여 꿈을 투사하고 거울 속의 이상적 자아를 동경하는 것이다. 이것은 현실의 삶을 회피하여 잠을 자거나, 살아있는 대상이 아닌 생명이 없는 물질을 향하여 스스로의 결핍을 채우는 것이다. 따라서 나의 방은 일상적인 삶에서 드러나는 심리적인 유형에 의해서 가. 현실의 도피처 나. 기억과 상상의 공간 다. 이상적 자아로 나누어졌다. 표현 방법은 과거의 향수가 유출되는 사물과 이국적인 동경이 내포된 사물들을 실제로 사용하며 동시에 재료로써 사용하였다. 이것은 현실에서 이루어 질수 없는 욕망을 해소하려는 상상적 투사이다. 제시된 작품 7점을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. ‘나의 방’은 현실과 상상이 합쳐진 팩션(faction)의 공간이다. 그 공간속에 은거하고 있는 자아는 나르시스적 자아로서 삶과 사물을 사랑하는 나르시즘과 패티시즘으로 분석되어진다. 거울을 바라보며 이상적 자아를 꿈꾸게 되는것은 현실에서 충족되지 못한 욕망 때문이다. 이것은 의복, 장신구들을 향하여 삶을 투사하는 과정으로 나타난다. 의복의 표현, 반복적인 문양, 꽃, 거울, 신발. 이러한 사소한 모티브는 역사적인 환상이나 향수로서 삶의 내재하는 욕망의 대리물들이다. ; Our daily life consists of diverse behaviors and patterns. We sleep, read, talk with others, yet we become alienated from others in solitude, silence and secrets. Analyses of these behaviors and patterns can provide a path that links one s life pattern of daily life to an art work. This study started from my encounter with trivial objects of my daily life. I encounter them in my routine behaviors like looking in a minor and collecting objects like flowers, clothes, shoes, ornaments, and accessories. I realized dreams and ideals which wouldn t come true in real life were projected onto the objects that I was collecting. In the behavior of looking in a minor, I discover myself as Narcissus who evade real life, desiring the image of ideal-1 reflected in the minor. With this discovery I expressed in my works the narcissistic life experience in relation to the material objects and life. My attempt was not to separate art from life, taking my own life as what I directly express in my works, I tried to find aesthetic values in the process doing so. The goal of this study is to express a narcissistic space through everyday life. The theoretical frame of this analysis is the myth of Narcissus, the theory of Mirror stage and the concept of fetishism. In the mirror stage, a self takes satisfaction from gazing at the ideal-1 not being aware of being seen of his lacking self. Narcissus of the myth explains the selt in the mirror stage. Applying fetishism I examined the trace of self-love. I take the objects of everyday life for a part of myself. The content that I express in my art works is My room a narcissistic space that contains daily life. I express my room with the objects that I encounter everyday like clothes, shoes, flowers, accessories and other objects that I collected from travel. These objects contain little momories and stories behind them. This study includes the analyses of seven such peices. I analyzed the contents and methods of expression of these seven art works with the analytic framework provided by the three theories mentioned above. My room is the space where everyday life is reflected. It is the space of love and agony of lie, and also the space where the desires which were hidden in the inner side of me reappear. As the action to fill the desires, I project my dreams onto the material objects and I fancy the image of ideal-l reflected in the mirror. I evade the would of reality and sleep instead. I collect things that give me contentment. All is for filling my lack. My room represents three spaces divided by psychological patterns of everyday life. 1. hideout from the reality 2. space of memory and imagination 3. space of the ideal-l. As the method of representation of my room I use objects that crnit nostalgia of the past and that contain my fancies of exotic places like Lgypt and Arabic countries. It is an imaginary projection to resolve the desires which can not be fulfilled in reality. The conclusion of my analysis of the seven selected art works are as follow. My room is a space of faction where imagination and reality embrace each other. My narcissist self who inhabits in seclusion in this factional space loves life and materials of daily life which is explained as narcissism and fetishism in myself. The reason behind dreaming the idea-I looking in a mirror is because of unfulfilled desites. These appear in the process that I project life onto the meterials. Trivial motives of flowers, clothes, and ornaments are explained as the substitutes from the everyday life of nostalgia for the past.
