현대인의 정체성에 관한 연구

Abstract

For Koreans, individual benefit or independency has long been connected to families or clans. That s why We has been a more important concept for Koreans rather than I . The character of a group has become an important standard to decide individuals character. Without keeping their subjecthood, Koreans take comfort in receiving characters of groups in this culture. Through the industralization during 1960 s and 1970 s, Korean society has been changed dramatically. Since then, the rapid inflow of Western industrialized civilization in many aspects has had our society s changes more strengthened, and it has led our society to gradually throw our feature away and to follow Western one. The changes have been accelerated by various images that were came in especially after industralization. Today images like TV, computer, movie and multimedia have been popularized in Korean society, and in the 21st century, we can now access worldwide real-time information by the various mass media such as internet, satellite TV, etc. As Marshall McLuhan pointed out, the mass media has brought "the worldwide spread of human emotion and consciousness". The mass media are used by human being and change his perception. The mass media themselves infiltrate into the inside of human being s perception having nothing to do with the contents. McLuhan mentioned " Media is massage " and it explains that the Mass Media don t remain neutrality but have an important influence on human being. As McLuhan referred to above images dramatically flowing in through the various mass media make it possible to easily watch other people s life. In addition, we are taking it in the parts of our lives naturally. These technaologic changes accelerated the changes in Korean society. In the modern society in tandem with the industrialization, Korean group culture changed in different aspects compared to the previous one. Korean people more and more take comfort in being similar to others. In my work , I emphasized on these noticeable Korean characteristics and tried to express Korean losing their identification living in the modern society. For these, examining the modern society by the post-modernism theory and studying Korean trait using a social-psychological view. I tried to put all these things in my work. To express these things, I used the mass media such as video, computer which are very close to a modern. Also, using the various mass media such as photos possible to reprint, computer print-outs will be able to make audience easy to approach my work. A person s figure expressed by a silhouette and a mashed painting symbolizes Korean people living in the modern society without any noticeable characteristic. Through this work, I intended to take deep consideration on the identity of Koreans and also try to find out my identity. First Chapter as the main subject, in Chapter 2, Korean social situations in the modern society are studied theoretically and explained how these things are reflected on my work. In chapter 4, the mass media used in this work are described more concretely in the methodological ways. By working this thesis, I intended to reflect on my work and set the following direction of my work for the future.; 한국인에게는 전통적으로 개인의 주체성이 가족, 씨족 단위와 결부되어왔다. 한국인에게는 나 보다는 우리 라는 개념이 더욱 강조되어왔고, 그러한 속에서 개인의 개성보다는 집단의 성격이 개인의 성격을 결정짓는 중요한 잣대가 되었다. 이러한 문화속에서 한국인은 자신의 주체성을 잃어버린체 자신이 속해있는 집단의 성격을 받아들임을 통해 위안을 받고 있다. 특히, 1960, 70년대 산업화를 통해 우리사회는 이전에는 생각지도 못할 정도로 급속히 변화하게 되었다. 교통수단의 발달로 한국은 일일 생활권에 들었고, 전신의 발달로 멀리있는 사람과도 마치 가까이에 있는것처럼 얘기를 나눌수 있게 되었다. 서구의 산업화과정은 200년이상의 시간이 소요되면서 주체적으로 시간을 두고 점차 이루어진 반면에 우리나라의 산업화는 20년정도의 시간을 두고 급속히 이루어졌다. 이러한 상황에서 우리나라의 산업화는 주체적으로 이루어진 것이 아니라 타의에 의해 수동적으로 이루어져왔다. 그 결과 우리의 산업화는 서구의 모습을 비판없이 수용한 경향을 보인다. 여러방면에서 급속도로 이루어진 서구의 산업문명의 유입은 우리사회의 변화를 한층 강화시켰다. 이러한 변화속에서 우리사회는 점차 우리의 모습은 버리고 서구의 모습을 닮아가는 현상을 가져왔다. 특히 산업화 이후 대중매체를 통한 광고이미지등의 소비를 촉진시키고자 하는 대중적 이미지들이 급속도로 우리사회에 유입되었다. 이렇듯 서구에서 유입된 대중적 이미지들은 우리의 모습을 서구의 모습으로 닮아가게 하는 변화를 가속화시켰다. 현대에는 인터넷과 위성 TV등의 다양한 대중매체를 통해 세계의 정보가 실시간에 도착하게 되었다. 사회학자인 마샬 맥루한(Marshall McLuhan)은 미디어는 그것을 사용하는 인간의 지각습관을 변화시키고, 그 내용과 관계없이 미디어 자체가 인간의 지각내부로 침투한다고 하였다. 그는 "미디어는 마사지다"라고 언급하면서 이는 매체가 중립적 위치가 아니라 사람들에게 영향을 미친다는 것을 설명하였다. 이러한 미디어의 변화는 정보를 손쉽게 얻을 수 있게 하였을 뿐만 아니라 한국인들의 사회적 인식의 변화를 가속화 시키는 역할을 하였다. 산업화 이후 현대로 들어오면서 한국인의 집단문화는 이전의 집단문화와는 다른 양상으로 변화하였다. 이러한 사회적 변화속에서 한국인들은 더욱더 타인에게 닮아가면서 위안을 받게되었다. 본인은 이러한 한국인의 집단문화의 특징에 주목을 하고, 현대를 살아가는, 자신을 잃어가고 있는 한국인의 모습을 표현하고자 하였다. 이를 위해서 포스트 모더니즘이론을 통하여 현대사회를 살펴보고, 사회심리구조적인 입장을 통해 현대 한국인의 특징을 탐구하고 이를 작업을 통해 나타내고자 하였다. 이를 표현하기 위해서 현대인에게 익숙한 미디어인 비디오와 컴퓨터등을 사용하였고, 복제가 가능한 사진, 컴퓨터 출력등 다양한 매체를 사용하여, 관람자에게 좀더 가깝게 다가가고자 하였다. 작품의 표현방법으로는 사람의 형상을 실루엣과, 흐려진 화면으로 표현하여 현대를 살아가는 한국인의 몰개성성을 표현하고자 하였다. 본인은 이러한 작업을 통해 현대를 살아가는 한국인의 한사람으로 한국인의 정체성에 대해 생각해보고, 본인의 정체성을 찾아가고자 한다. 본 논문은 작품제작논문으로 본문의 첫장인 2장에서는 현대 한국사회의 상황에 대해 이론적으로 고찰해보고, 3장에서는 이러한 사회적 상황에서의 한국인의 심리구조에 대해 알아본다. 이를 작업에 어떻게 표현하였는지 설명하고자 한다. 4장은 방법적 측면에서 본인의 작업에 사용되는 미디어에 관하여 보다 구체적으로 서술하고자 한다.
