모순된 Perspective를 통해 나타난 시각표현 연구

Abstract

인류 역사상 현대 사회만큼 물질적으로 풍요하고 편리한 생활을 누릴 수 있었던 적이 없었음에도 블구하고 그 풍요에 반비례하여 인간의 주체성과 정신적, 정서적 경험은 점점 그 자리를 상실해가고 있다. 정신적 지주로서의 안식처를 잃어가는 현대인들은 그들이 만들어 놓은 환경에 의해 지배되고 있다는 모순을 안고 있으면서도 그것으로부터의 탈출구를 찾지 못한채 불안감과 고독감을 경험하고 있다. 일러스트레이션의 중요한 역할 중 하나가 바로 이러한 현대사회에서의 여러 갈등과 요구들에 민감하게 반응하여 대중에게 새로운 각도에서 문제를 제시하거나 해답을 주는것이라 하겠다. 이처럼 일러스트레이션은 개인예술이 아니라 사회의 단면을 보여주는 사회예술이므로 바람직한 방향으로 제작된 일러스트레이션이라면 그 독자적인 커뮤니케이션 기능을 통해 사회적 기능을 다해야 할 것이다. 따라서 일러스트레이터는 자신이 하고자 하는 이야기를 효과적으로 전달하기 위한 자신만의 고유한 시각형식을 가지고 있어야 한다. 이런 관점에서 본 연구는 perspective라는 하나의 시각형식을 통해 어떠한 원칙과 시점에 얽매이지 않고 대상과의 순수한 만남을 표현하려는 시도라 할 수 있다. 인간과 사물에 대한 일상적인 보는 법 에서 그 보는 시점을 달리함으로써 우리는 새로운 이해를 이끌어낼 수 있으며, 이러한 perspective의 해석은 대중들에게 새로운 각도의 시각과 함께 상상의 폭을 더욱 넓혀주어 흥미를 유발시켜 준다고 생각한다. 본 논문에서는 먼저 II장에서 그림에 나타난 perspective의 개념을 알아 보았다. 두 번째로는 시대별로 난항을 거듭한 끝에 많은 변화를 가져온 동,서양의 공간개념을 비교하고 그 변천과정을 통해 나타난 표현특징을 고찰하였다. 그리고 세 번째로는 이러한 perspective의 개념이 일러스트레이션에 있어 실제로 어떻게 이해되고 적용될 수 있을지 구체적인 공간표현 방법의 사례들을 통해 여러 가능성을 살펴보았다. III장에서는 작품제작 및 분석으로 제작내용과 의도를 밝히고, perspective를 토대로 본인의 작품에 나타난 표현형식과 표현요소에 대해 살펴보았다. 본 작품의 의미는 현대사회속에서 위협받는 인간내면의 감성과 순수성을 휴머니즘적 시각을 통해 회복하자는 것이며, 이러한 방향에 입각하여 어린아이나 원시인의 표현처럼 꾸밈없고 순수한 perspective를 통해 나타난 평면적 공간과 나열적이고 기호적인 배치에 대해 설명하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 표현된 작품을 분석하였다. 이제까지 살펴본 바와 같이 본 연구는 perspective 라는 하나의 시각형식을 통하여 인간내면의 감정영역을 본 연구자의 개인적인 경험이나 기억,성향을 바탕으로 형상화하려는 시도라고 할 수 있다. ; Dispute (or because of) the unprecedented material abundance and convenient life-style of contemporary society, the boundary of human integrity and the scope of emotional as well as spiritual experiences people can acquire have been considerably limited. While most people are well aware that the “convenient” civilization they have created is at the same time posing serious problems for themselves (i.e., generating feelings of insecurity and loneliness), it appears that finding a proper exit from it usually proves more than difficult. One of the most important functions illustration carries out is to offer to the public some viable solutions or, at least, to reinterpret the old questions in new ways by carefully reflecting and responding to their various demands and interests that are of conflictual nature. It is a cliche that illustration is a social art rather than an individual one and, therefore, it is deemed desirable that illustration performs socially meaningful functions through its unique mode of communication. For this to materialize, it is imperative for the illustrator to have their own unique visual forms. In this regard, this study purport to provide a visual form called “perspectives” that are not tied to any particular principle or viewpoint. By adopting a “perspective” method - that is, taking different cuts of the usual objects from our conventional viewpoints - we can not only generate new understandings of the world around us but we, illustrators, may also be able to expand the boundary of what the public can imagine in their own meaningful ways. In Chapter Two, we first explored the concept of “perspectives” as manifested in human art works. We then proceeded to compare the respective concepts of “space” in the East and West and how they evolved over time. Finally, on the basis of several spatial expression cases, we examined some possibilities as to how these “perspectives” can be better understood and applied to illustration. In Chapter Three, by identifying the materials used, motives employed, as well as the processes involved, I offered my own analysis of the art works presented in the thesis. The most crucial message of my art out available for us to recover our “lost” emotions and integrity. In order to relay this message, my artwork has employed various expressions devoid of artificiality. More concrete discussions about the unidimensionality and symbol0display are also found in this chapter. In sum, this study is an effort to visualize my own subconscious realms (i.e., experiences, memories and inclinations) through the “perspective” format.
