데님을 이용한 의상디자인 연구 : 스티치 장식기법을 중심으로

Abstract

The trend of fashion is closely related to the life of people who live at present. The fashion trend has influenced on the life style of people who are in the organical connection with it, and the life of people can also make an effect on the next coming fashion trend. For this reason, we can recognize the atmosphere of society and the social situation at that time from the fashion trend as well the life style of the people. The one of the fashion trends in 2002 spring/summerDenim is the romantic hippieism and denim is one of the fabrics that can reflect this kind of trend. Most of fashion designers have shown lots of items used various denim. But this is not quite an innovation, because we have caught the movement that denim had appeared since the past years. That is not short lived popularity, but reasonable. Denim has been in developing not only in fabrics, but in design. That has been recognized as a practical thing and an esthetic thing. This study is concerned about the denim fashion which is on the hot trend of 2002 s/s, and the purpose of this study is to define the importance and values of denim through the analysis the chracteristics of denim, and to design practical and esthetic clothes using denim by investigating the clothes designs with denim in modern fashion and the general fashion trend of 2000 s. The main fabric is an indigo denim and the method of expression is stitching, which are on the main fashion trend in 2002. For achieving this purpose, it is necessary to study the origin of denim and the procedure of developing of denim. The data are based on the collections in Paris, London, Milan, and New York. The results through the theoretical study are as follows. First, denim has been developed for the needs of times in many ways, and it means that denim can be devoloped now also. Second, denim is very useful, symbolic, and esthetic. Third, denim has a lot of possibility that can be more used in many ways because of the various chracteristics. The results from making clothes are as follows. First, denim can be designed originally different from other fabrics. It can be a formal suit, at the same time, a casual wear. Second, the art, stitching is a very efficient method that can express the originality of denim and brought out color of denim from design. And stitches on denim can create a simple mood and a delicate handwork feeling. Third, denim matches well with laces, beads, and the satin tapes. These kinds of combination can be complementary to the each other, so can get rid of the boringness come from the unique fabric, denim. This study is focused on denim which had widely used as a working uniform, overall in 1850 s, and now in 2002, it is improved considerably from the previous level, and at present, 2002 spring/summer season, denim became a center of trend ranging from casual wear to designer s collection, even to the high fashion. It became an all-round fabrics in fashion design. However, in studying denim, there are few academical materials and the previous study that researched and studied denim after 2000 s, so there were much difficulties in persuading more objectively and logically with this study. In making clothes using denim, there are lacking of the accentuation of stitches and esthetic points. There should be more study and academical activities that can make up for these weak points.; 패션의 트랜드는 현대인의 생활과 아주 밀접한 관계에 놓여 있다. 패션 트랜드는 현대인들의 삶과 유기적으로 연결되어 작게는 의생활의 방식에서부터 크게는 가치관과 삶의 방식에 까지 현대인들에게 영향을 끼치는 한편, 사람들의 사고 방식과 그 시대의 상황은 다음의 패션 트랜드에 가장 큰 영향을 주는 요소가 된다. 따라서 패션 트랜드는 당시의 시대 상황과 사회적 분위기뿐만 아니라 그 시대를 살아가는 사람들의 삶까지도 조명할 수 있게 해주는 중요한 단서를 제공 해 준다. 2002년 춘하 시즌 대표적인 패션 트랜드는 1970년대의 로맨틱한 히피즘이고, 이러한 트랜드를 잘 반영해주는 소재로 데님이 큰 인기를 끌고 있다. 거의 대부분의 국내외 유명 디자이너들의 컬렉션에는 데님을 이용한 다양한 아이템들이 등장하였다. 그러나 지난 몇 년간의 트랜드를 살펴보면 데님의 이와 같은 열풍이 일시적인 것이 아님을 확인할 수 있다. 계속적인 디자인과 소재의 개발로 데님은 디자이너들에게는 창조적인 영감을 주는 소재로, 대중에게는 실용적이며 동시에 미적인 의복으로 인식되었다. 이에 본 논문은 최근 패션 트랜드에서 중요 요소로 부상하는 데님 패션에 주목하여 이러한 데님 소재가 패션에서 차지하는 중요성과 가치를 데님의 특징을 근거로 하여 정의하는 한편, 현대 패션 디자인에서 데님이 사용된 디자인들을 살펴봄으로써 데님 패션의 트랜드를 파악하여 2002년 데님 패션의 특징 중 하나인 인디고 데님과 스티치 장식 기법을 이용한 상품으로 활용 가치가 있는, 실용적이며 심미적인 데님 의상을 디자인하는데 본 연구의 목적을 둔다. 데님을 이용한 실용적, 심미적 의상 디자인을 제작 하기 위해서 선행되어야 할 이론적 배경 연구 과정으로 데님의 기원 및 정의를 살펴보고, 그 활용과 발전 과정을 시대별로 정리하였다. 현대 패션 디자인과 데님 패션과의 상관 관계를 살펴보기 위해서 파리와 런던, 밀라노와 뉴욕을 중심으로 열리는 디자이너들의 컬렉션을 중심으로 그 자료를 수집하여 연구하였다. 이러한 연구를 위한 이론적 연구를 통하여 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 데님의 발전 과정을 통해서 데님은 시대의 요구에 맞게 그 의미와 기능을 변화시켜 온 소재였음을 알 수 있었다. 이것은 데님이 다양한 의미와 기능을 동시에 지닐 수 있는 소재임을 나타낸다. 둘째, 데님은 실용성과 상징성, 심미성과 같은 특성을 지니고 있는 소재임을 알 수 있었다. 기능성 데님 소재들의 개발로 데님은 더욱 실용적이 되었고, 다양한 연출과 표현 기법에 따라 에로티시즘과 해체주의적인 성격을 지닐 수 있으며, 옷을 입는 사람의 개성을 창조해 낼 수 있는 심미적인 소재이고, 젊음과 자유, 긍정적이며 자연 친화적인 상징적인 소재로 변화하고 있다. 셋째, 최근 3년간의 트랜드 분석을 통해서 데님을 이용한 의상 디자인들의 등장이 일시적인 트랜드가 아님을 알 수 있었다. 이는 데님의 특징 상 디자인과 소재의 개발 여하에 따라서 더욱 발전하고 그 쓰임이 빈번해질 수 있다는 것을 보여 준다. 이러한 이론적 배경을 통하여 제작한 작품을 통해서 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 데님 소재가 다양한 아이템과 디자인으로의 활용이 가능한, 매우 창조적이며 실용적인 소재라는 것을 알 수 있었다. 수트와 원피스 드레스와 같이 정장으로 활용할 수 있는 아이템뿐만 아니라 팬츠와 탑 등 매우 활동적인 느낌의 캐주얼 웨어도 데님을 이용하여 디자인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 스티치 기법은 인디고 데님의 색상을 부각시키는 동시에 매우 간결하고 정제된 분위기를 만들어 내면서 섬세한 수공예적인 분위기도 전달할 수 있는, 데님 패션에 활용이 적절한 표현 기법임을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 레이스 및 비즈, 공단 테이프 등 다양한 종류, 색상의 부자재들과 인디고 데님은 잘 어울려 데님 패션의 부자재로 적당함을 알 수 있었다. 동시에 단일 소재로서 데님 소재가 가질 수 있는 한계점들을 보완하는 방법으로 데님과 다양한 느낌의 부자재 및 타 소재들과의 결합이 효과적임을 알 수 있었다. 본 논문은 1850년대 미국 서부 개척 시대에 작업복으로 처음 등장하여 오랜 세월 변화와 창조의 과정을 거치면서 2002년 현재 미래의 패션 시장의 창조적인 소재로 발돋움한 데님 소재의 가치에 주목하여 그 원인을 분석하고 데님을 이용한 의상을 제작하였다. 그러나 데님을 연구하는 과정에서 제 4기에 해당하는, 2000년 이후 데님에 관한 학술 연구 자료는 거의 없었기 때문에 보다 객관적이고 논리적인 연구가 되지 못했다. 또한 작품 제작에서는 본 논문의 부제인 스티치 기법을 부각시키는 것이 다소 미약하였고, 실용적인 데님 의상을 제작하는데 지나치게 비중을 두어 작품의 심미성이 다소 결여되는 아쉬움을 남았다. 이러한 점들을 보완한 보다 발전된 데님 패션에 대한 연구들이 계속되길 바란다.
