입체일러스트레이션에 관한 연구 : 점토의 양감과 질감표현을 중심으로

Abstract

The moderns are living in the flood of numerous information. But such numerous information is not necessarily beneficial to all people but only a few selected information is used by individuals who are in need. Whims of the public are ready to take off anytime and run after what is new and fresh. All the artists engaged in creative activities knew too well of such public demand. For this reason they strive for discovering language of formative art specific to themselves which is novel and unique and which emits overwhelming light among numerous creative works and this means painstaking struggle within themselves. Illustration, a medium for transmission of information, is no exception. Cold shouldering by the public of works without individuality of artists is quite natural for this reason creative activity of artist should begin from discovery of their individuality and experience. And such was the starting point of this treatise. This study is based on the perception that in all the truth dual elements namely relativity and absoluteness and subjectivity and objectivity exist concurrently and upon such basis the absolute and objective entity known as mountains of Korea is expressed through approach of emotional content. It is not an exaggeration when it is said that search for method of visually differentiated expression is determined according to choice of materials. Discerning and understanding in depth of more numerous materials amy become an primary ability for possessing competitiveness by students of pure arts or applied arts. Choice of clay as materials which meet the requirement for materials of differentiation which lend themselves to more liberal expression is essence of this study. The plasticity, a unique attribute of clay makes clay a proper material for expression of feel of volume and texture in connection with cubic expression in illustration. Besides choice of materials the writer sought visual uniqueness by applying a certain limitation or restriction at the time of work. In this study only one material of clay is used. As motif of expression mountains of Korea which is a terrain feature lending itself to highlighting diversity in expression inherent to clay for its feel of volume and texture are chosen and by expressing only shade and light and the color specific to clay exclusive of other colors line, texture of elements desired for expression appearing in works were reinforced visually. In this study this writer sought harmony between material and expression through relief forms and reached a conclusion that special attribute of plasticity of clay as medium for information expedites conveyance of emotional content. ; 현대인은 수많은 정보의 홍수 속에서 살고 있다. 그러나 이 수많은 정보가 모든 사람에게 유용한 것은 아니며 선택된 몇몇의 정보만이 필요한 개개인에게 쓰여질 뿐이다. 대중의 시선은 새롭고 신선한 것을 ?i아 언제든 떠날 준비를 하고 있는 것이다. 창조활동을 하는 모든 예술가들은 이런 대중의 요구를 누구보다도 잘 알고 있기 때문에 수많은 창작물 속에서도 빛을 발할 좀더 새롭고 고유한 자신만의 조형언어를 찾기 위해 노력하며 이것은 참으로 힘겨운 자신과의 싸움이다. 정보 전달의 매개체로서 일러스트레이션 역시 예외일 수는 없다. 작가의 개성을 담지 못한 작품이 대중으로부터 외면당하는 것은 당연한 일이며 이런 까닭에 작가의 창작활동은 자신의 개성과 경험을 발견하는 일에서 시작되어야 할 것이다. 본 연구 또한 이런 과제에서 출발하였다. 본 연구는 모든 진리 속에는 상대성과 절대성, 주관성과 객관성이라는 양쪽요소가 함께 존재한다는 인식의 바탕위에 한국의 산이라는 절대적이고 객관적인 실체를 감성적 내용으로의 접근을 통해 표현하였다. 시각적으로 차별화된 표현방법의 모색은 어떤 재료를 선택 하느냐 에서 결정된다고 해도 과언이 아니며 보다 많은 재료에 대한 숙지와 깊이 있는 이해는 순수미술을 하는 사람에게나 응용미술을 하는 사람 모두에게 작업에 있어서 경쟁력을 갖추는 기본적 소양이 될 수 있다. 차별화된 재료이면서 표현에 좀더 자유로워야하는 조건에 부합되는 재료로서 ‘점토’의 선택은 그런 차원에서 본 연구의 핵심으로, 가소성이라는 점토의 특수성은 일러스트레이션의 입체적 표현에 있어서 양감과 질감을 표현하기에 적절한 재료이다. 본 연구에서는 점토라는 한 가지 재료만을 사용하였으며, 표현의 소재로는 다양한 양감과 질감을 포함하고 있어서 점토가 가진 표현의 다양성을 부각 시킬 수 있는 지형물인 ‘한국의 산’을 선택하였고, 다른 색을 배제한 빛에 의한 명암과 점토 고유의 색만 사용함으로써 작업에 표현되는 선, 질감 또는 그 외의 표현하고자 하는 요소들을 시각적으로 강화시켰다. 본 연구는 점토를 이용한 입체일러스트레이션으로 부조적 형태의 조형물을 통해서 재료와 표현간의 조화를 모색하였으며 점토가 가진 가소성이라는 특수성은 정보매개체로서 감성적 내용을 전달하는데 용이하다는 결론을 얻었다.
