러그 직물을 위한 표현 연구 : 도시 빌딩의 이미지를 중심으로

Abstract

현대에 이르러 인간의 주된 활동영역은 외부공간에서 내부공간으로 점차 그 영역을 이동하는 추세이다. 이는 다양화된 정보처리 기술과 산업기기의 발달로 인하여 실내에서 생활하는 현대인들의 소비시간이 늘어남에 기인한다. 이에 실내인테리어의 중요성은 커지고 있으며 장식적인 생활 용품을 이용하여 시각적, 심리적 쾌적함을 이루려는 경향이 두드러지고 있다. 이러한 추세에 맞추어 러그(Rug)는 바닥장식재로서 단조로운 실내공간을 부드럽게 융화시켜주는 실용직물로 인식되어 오늘날 소비자의 요구에 맞춘 다양한 디자인의 계획과 생산이 요구되어지고 있다. 기원전 5세기경 처음 제작되었으리라 추측되어지는 러그는 인류의 역사와 함께 다양한 문양과 기법이 발전되어 왔다. 그러나 현재 국내에서 시판되고 있는 러그제품을 살펴보면 인도, 이집트산의 평직위주의 저가 수직 러그이거나 중국. 페르시아 산의 값비싼 장식 러그가 대부분이다. 또한 우리 나라 업체에서 생산되고 있는 제품은 전통적인 러그의 문양을 복제하여 디자인한 기계직 제품이 대부분이어서 좀더 고급화되고 독창적인 러그 디자인의 개발과 활용이 시급하다고 하겠다. 이에 본 연구는 현대적인 감각의 새로운 러그 디자인을 제시하여 핸드 우븐(hand woven)으로 직접 제작함으로써 전통적인 문양의 답습에서 벗어나 보다 현대적인 감각을 갖춘 실내 인테리어 직물로서 러그의 활용가치를 높여보고자 한다. 우선 러그에 대한 이해를 돕기 위하여 문헌을 통하여 나타나는 러그의 개념 및 역사를 살펴 보고 러그의 다양한 소재, 기능들의 특성을 살펴보았다. 또한 이러한 러그의 새로운 디자인을 위하여 연구자는 현대사회에서 커다란 군집을 이루는 도시 빌딩의 이미지에 주목하였다. 특히 도시 빌딩 이미지를 구체화시키는 파사드 패턴에서 본질적인 조형요소인 점. 선. 면의 의미를 분석하였으며 이를 직물위에 효과적으로 표현하고자 하였다. 이와 같은 이론적 배경을 통하여 작품 제작과정은 대상의 조형적 분석 과정과 실물 제작과정으로 크게 나누어 디자인 분석을 통한 실물 제작으로 이론과 실제를 결부시키고자 하였다. 대상의 조형적 분석은 도시 빌딩의 이미지를 통하여 유추해 낸 점, 선, 면의 조형요소를 단순화하고 이를 직조 기법에 적용해 보는 과정을 포함하였으며 실물제작은 수공예 러그가 지닐 수 있는 장점을 최대한 살려 기법의 다양한 변화를 통한 작품의 조형적 완성미를 높히고자 하였다. 이상의 연구를 토대로 보다 새롭고 다양한 제직기법을 이용한 현대적 감각의 새로운 러그 디자인이 개발되기를 기대하며 또한 산업체와의 생산 방식의 절충을 통하여 고부가가치를 지닌 러그 직물 생산의 발전적 계기가 마련되기를 기대한다.

; Along with the recent development of informatiton prcessing and industrial technology, the main field of human activity has been moving to interior, gradually. With this transition, the importance of iterior design has been emphasized, and there is a tendency to achieve visual and psychological contentment by using ornamental articles. In occordance with this tendency, rug, one of the floor ornamental fabric, is used as an interior material which harmonize interior space and it s diverse design plan and production are required. Rug, which is believed to have been made since B.C. 5C, has been developed with a lot of patterns and skills through the human history. However, the rug dealt with in current Korean market is either low-priced product made in Indonesia and Egypt, or high-priced one made in China and Perisia. Most products made from companies are mechnical product desiged with the reproduction of traditional model. Thus, the development and practical use of high-grade and characteristic rug is urgent in rug industry. In this thesis, we suggest modern design and hand woven rug, and put emphasis on the utilization value of rug not by the traditional pattern, but from the creation of new design. The first step to understand rug is the theoretical study, which includes rug concept, history, material, and function. The second step is analyzing city building image, whose formative facter is dot, line and space, used for the motif of rug design. With this theroetical background, the process of work has been divided into two groups - the formative analysis and the practical sampling work. The formative analysis of object includes simplification by formative element-dot, line, and space, which come from city building image and application for weaving skill. The practical sampling work includes high-formative completement by varied trial of weaving skills, which mostly express the merit of handicraft rug. I hope this work can contribute to the development of variable skills, technique and design in modern, sensible rug and provide the compromise of progressive production method of rug between business world and manufacturer for the production of high value-added rug fabric.
