한국적 색채에 의한 직물디자인 연구

Abstract

과거나 현재, 우리 주위에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 직조물은 그 시대의 사회상을 잘 반영한다. 왜냐하면 손으로 실을 짜고 그 실로 옷감을 만들고 무늬를 입히는 작업구조는 경제적, 본능적(本能的) 욕구로 인해 인간에 의해 만들어졌고 그 인간은 바로 사회의 구성원이기 때문이다. 그런데 오늘날 우리나라 직조물의 색상과 디자인은 매우 서구적이며, 유행에 민감하고 변화무쌍하다. 게다가 도용(盜用)과 모방(模倣)도 횡행(橫行)하고 있는 실정이다. 이러한 현실속에서 우연히 활옷의 우아한 색감을 눈여겨 본 필자는 우리의 전통적인 색감을 직물디자인에 활용한다면, 새로운 분야의 개척일 뿐 아니라 그것을 통해 우리의 독창적 문화상품을 하나 더 만들게 될 수 있는 계기가 되리라 생각한다. 이 논문은 우선 우리 민족의 전통적인 색채관(色彩觀)을 조명해 보고 전통색상을 대표하는 오방색(五方色)에 관하여 설명을 할 것이다. 그리고 전통적인 유물 등에 남아 있는 오방색의 자취를 살펴볼 것이다. 그리고 나서 오방색이 현대의 실생활에 관련된 소품 동에 자연스럽게 접목되어질 수 있는가를 다른 작가들의 작품과 이미 제품화되어 있는 상품들, 그리고 필자의 작품 등을 통하여 비교, 응용해 보고자 한다. 그리고 이러한 연구를 토대로 작품제작의 배경과 제작 방법을 논술하게될 것이다. 특히 오방색을 응용한 직물 디자인 제작은 다음과 같은 방향으로 연구하겠다. 첫째, 오방색이 나타나 있는 단청, 색동, 활옷, 청사초롱 등을 모티브로 하되 옛 유물(遺物)에 대해 맹목적으로 답습하기보다는 현대적이고 감각적인 직물로 재해석하여 디자인한다. 둘째, 색상을 우선으로 하고 전통적인 문양(紋樣)을 가미하여 한국적인 이미지가 극대화될 수 있도록 한다. 셋째, 오방색이 현대에 들어와서 어떤 방법으로 재해석되어 이어져가고 있는지 생활용품 또는 섬유작품을 통하여 비교해 보고자 한다. 이러한 연구를 통해 본연구자는 우리나라 전통색인 오방색을 응용한 직물디자인을 시도함으로써 직조분야에 새로운 가능성을 제시하고 싶었고 일부 미약한 부분도 있지만 오방색을 이용한 직조 방법이 현대 직물디자인에 충분히 응용될 가치가 있다고 생각되었다.

; Textile fabrics we see everywhere around us reflect the aspect of society and the times. Because the structure of working in which threads are woven by hands to become a cloth or to have patterns has been established by man s economic and instinctive desires and man is the member of his society. At present, Korean textiles have very westernized colors and designs and are also very sensitive to fashion and variable. Furthermore some, designers are stealing and unconscientiously imitating other s design. In this circumstance, the author of this study accidently encountered the elegant colors of the traditional Korean court suit and thought if we could apply our traditional colors to textile design, it is an opening-up of a new field and a chance for creating another unique cultural article of our own. In this study, at first, Korean race s traditional view of color will be examined and the five basic colors (symbolizing five directions; the east, west, north, south, and center) that represent traditional Korean colors will be explained. And the appearance of those five colors in our traditional remains of the past will be investigated. And then the author of this study will compare several designers works with already manufactured articles to see whether the five basic colors could be connected with small pieces of modern life supplies and to apply them to actual textile design. Based on this examination, the background of making works and making techniques will be described. Particularly, textile designing making use of the five basic colors will be studied as follows: First, although the motive comes out of Tancho￣ng, striped cloth, court suit, and lantern cover, unconditional following of tradition will be rejected to make textiles modern and fashionable. Second, color will be given priority and then traditional patterns will be added to maximize Korean images. Third, to know in what way the five basic colors are being reinterpreted and handed down to the present, a comparison will be conducted on life supplies and textile works. Through this study, the author wants to present a new possibility to the field of weaving by applying the five basic colors of Korea to textile design and thinks those colors is applicabel enough to modern textile design though the application could have some weak points.
