3-D 일러스트레이션을 이용한 어린이 그림동화책에 관한 연구 : 재료의 다양성을 보여주는 표현을 중심으로

Abstract

현대사회에서 일러스트레이션(Illustration)의 활용 가능성은 매우 높아가고 있다. 과거 삽화나 컷(Cut) 또는 단순한 이야기를 해설하는 종속적인 기능을 가진 그림을 의미하는 것, 즉 문장이나 여백을 보조하는 단순한 장식적인 요소로 인식되던 것을 벗어나 글자나 언어보다도 더 인상적이고 효과적인 커뮤니케이션(Communication)수단으로 인식되어 가고 있다. 특히 성장기에 있는 어린이들에게 있어서는 어떠한 미디어 보다도 큰 영향을 미쳐 단순한 시각전달 수단을 벗어나 어린이의 정서 형성에 기여하는 바가 지대하다. 그러므로 사고력과 경험이 부족한 어린이들에게 그림이 주는 역할과 영향력은 대단히 크고도 중요하다. 특히 그림동화책에 있어서 일러스트레이션은 실물을 본 일이 없는 어린이들에게 인지력을 높여줌과 동시에 상상력을 키워준다는 점, 그리고 전파 미디어와는 달리 출판 미디어이기에 개인 취향에 따라 선택이 가능하여 좀더 개성적이고 언제나 반복해 볼 수 있으며 시간적 제약을 받지 않는다는 점 때문에 어린이 정서에 미치는 영향은 대단하다고 할 수 있다. 또한 거의가 활자 매체로만 되어 있는 일반 도서와는 달리 그림동화책에 있어서는 내용 못지않게 일러스트레이션의 비중 및 역할이 중요하다는 특성을 가지고 있다. 요즈음 일러스트레이션은 소재뿐 아니라 재료의 다양성으로 인해 그 활용범위가 크게 넓어지고 있다. 따라서 이러한 영향으로 그림동화책의 일러스트레이션 또한 아주 다양한 기법으로 나타나고 있다. 그 노력들 중의 하나로써 종래의 2차원적인 평면 일러스트의 정적인 이미지를 능동적으로 탈피하고, 보다 독특하고 강한 시각적 인상을 주기 위한 3차원 일러스트레이션들이 제작되고 있다. 3-D 일러스트레이션은 기조의 평면 일러스트레이션이 가지고 있는 일러스트레이션 고유의 목적과 기능 이외에 다양한 재료를 이용한 질감의 표현, 입체감과 공간감으로 인해 얻어지는 독특한 현실감(실제감)으로 어린이들에게 새로운 흥미를 줄 것이다. 그러므로 3-D 일러스트레이션의 연구는 보다 독특하고 개성 있는 작품의 연출로 어린이들이 보다 새로운 세계를 상상하고 창작할 수 있도록 하는데 도움을 줄 것이다. 본 연구에서는 경제적, 시간적인 제약으로 인해 상대적으로 등한시 되어왔던 3-D 일러스트레이션에 대한 인식을 다시 제고하고, 3-D 일러스트레이션을 응용한 그림동화를 제작함으로써 각박한 현대사회의 등불로 떠오를 어린 새싹들에게 마음을 따뜻하게 가꿀 수 있는 역할을 할 수 있었으면 하는 바램이다. 앞으로 계속적으로 이런 노력들의 개발로 작가들의 무한한 능력의 발산으로써 더욱 새로운 일러스트레이션의 발전을 기대한다. ; In leading our modern complex life, the importance of good publication as a means of education and training for the younger generation has steadily increased along with the development of its applied techniques, for example, the colorfully illustrated pictures on any written records or textbooks. People now has come around being keenly conscious of its significance as a direct but effective instrument of communication, which is more impressing and practical by far on the recipients than the old-fashioned, one-way figure of speech or any elaborate literary works, by coming out of the arena where they used to interpret it as an ancillary or supplementary rubbish of minor importance that would merely fill the marginal space of passages in some episodes or simple graphic illustrations there with a view merely to helping public understand it easier in a rough and ready way. The importance of illustrations in particular is pronounced here in reality that it is much more influential on those children still in adolescence or growing stage than any other media, imparting the needy information faster than the old-fashioned visual means and thus spelling a better contribution to the basic development of social grace and tenderness for young children. The impact of such art of illustration is especially great because of the easier susceptibility of immaturity of those young children who would lack yet in experience and are immature in their thinking process. The initial power of recognition and the strength of infantile imagination, triggered by their visual learning they undergo through miscellaneous fairy tale books that are full of eye-catching illustrations, will quickly arouse their interest, develope and activate their latent ability for the first time, not through their direct observation of any actual substance, but through those pictures and the gripping illustration in the books. Aside from the primary advantage of illustration, that is, quicker speed and better quality of readers learning process than that of other media, its supplementary benefit is obvious. To begin with, the learners may make their personal choice of books that suit them best. Furthermore the materials may be repeatedly accessible anytime they want with no timely restraint, that is not at all possible with the information on the air through frequency spectrum. The most outstanding feature with illustrated books may be sought in the fact that an apparent stress is always placed on the role and the quality of illustration, as much as on the quality of its initial substance, that is quite different with any other publications coming out in the form of legible indications of worded letters. In recent year, however, the practical application of illustrations has become wider, intensive and varied in its extent because of the easier availability of more diversified materials and data, thanks to the fast development of its drawing techniques for fairy tale books. For example, specialists today attempt to produce the 3-dimentional illustrations in order to make a stronger and more aggressive visual impression on their works, adamantly striding out and over the threshold of lod smoke-stack method in which they had been so long stuck with the flat, stationary and 2-dimentional illustration. The illustration prepared on the basis of new 3-dimentional technique, when applied on fairy tale books, will sure give a completely new satisfaction to readers and capture their minds with its typical sense of reality created on one s visual image by the cubic and the spatial effect, together with its improved qualitative texture that was produced by more assorted number of raw material, serving both the traditional purpose and the function of flat illustrations all simultaneously. For the reasons explained above, the study on 3-D illustration technique will help children imagine and initiate the respective action-centered worlds through the new creative works that are all unique and completely new, having added with the respective personality of readers. The primary purpose of this study on "3-D Illustration" which has been so far disregarded in a relative term, because of its miscellaneous adversity, in particular, the budgetary limitation and the time constraint therewith, is to convince the concerned people of its importance as well as of its dire urgency, leading them to revaluate the 3-D illustration technique on this occasion. Ultimately, the author firmly believes, a larger number of fairy tale books with more refined graphic illustrations produced on the basis of 3-D techniques will soon appear in the markets and this eventually leads children to better and warmer worlds of their imagination in this most critical asphalt jungle of competition. It is my heartfelt wish, last but not least, that such an effort no doubt, turns out fruitful and the new techniques on this 3-D illustration be further developed with an ever ongoing basis.
