섬유 소재를 통한 직물 연구 : 부조적 표현을 중심으로

Abstract

21세기를 얼마 남겨 놓지 않은 현대 사회 전반의 모든 산업들은 제 3의 산업 혁명기를 맞이하고 있다. 기존의 개념들은 매우 빠른 속도로 변화해 가고 그 변화 속도를 따라 잡기 힘겨운 현실이다. 섬유산업은 예술적인 측면과 공학적인 측면이 중요시되며 기능성과 심미성이 공존하는 다양한 섬유들로 우리 생활에 큰 영향을 미칠 뿐만 아니라 중요한 자리를 차지하게 된 것이다. 현대 섬유 예술의 표현 양식도 다양하게 확대되었으며 다양한 소재 및 기법이 개발되었다. 특히 표현매체로 사용되는 소재는 작가의 개성과 창작 의욕을 표출시키는 데 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 요즈음은 예술 작품뿐만 아니라 의류에서도 부조적 표현을 쉽게 볼 수 있으며 소재의 개념을 확장시키며 장점을 작품제작에 응용함으로써 소재마다 느낄 수 있는 부조적 느낌의 차이는 우리에게 새로운 느낌을 준다. 본 연구에서는 소재 연구를 통해 개발의 가능성으로 자연스럽게 조형미를 추구할 수 있는 소재를 선택하여 그 소재의 특성을 통한 조형표현을 시도함으로써 섬유 소재의 개념에 대해 정의하고 사용 가능한 소재의 범위를 확장시키고자 하는 연구이다. 소재 연구에 대한 이론적 배경을 휘하여 국내외의 문헌자료, 관련서적, 정기간행물을 통하여 직물 디자인으로 발전 가능한 소재에 대해 모색해 보았다. 연구의 과정에서 적절한 표현 소재를 모색하던 중 낚싯줄, 동선, 고무사를 선택하게 되었고 이 소재들에서 시각적으로 느낄 수 있는 구부러짐, 광택, 고정성, 탄성, 신축성 등을 적용하여 제직하였다. 이러한 소재들은 근래에 자주 등장하는 직물 중 부조적 직물에 사용되어지는 소재이며 부조적 직물을 제직하여 우리의 실생활이나 의류 부분 등에 적용시켜 보고자 이러한 연구를 시도하게 되었다. 부조적 표현을 하는 방법으로는 기법과 소재 두 가지로 나누어 분류하는데 연구자는 후자의 소재 자체에서 표현 될 수 있는 부조적 표현을 중심으로 하였다. 본 연구에서는 낚싯줄을 이용하여 평직과 이중직 두 가지 조직으로 제직하였고, 동선과 고무사는 주로 평직으로 제직하였다. 또한 각 소재에서도 부조적 표현의 차이를 느낄 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 소재마다 특징과 그 효과에 따라 새로운 표현을 하고자 했다. 본 연구 결과로서 낚싯줄, 동선, 고무사로 분류하여 제직하였을 때의 그 차이를 알아볼 수 있었고 전체적으로 구성과 제작에 있어서 면사, 모사, 합성사 등의 소재를 함께 사용함으로써 소재간의 상호작용으로 의도하지 않았던 색채 효과를 얻을 수 있었다. ; Confronting the 21st century a few months ahead, all classes of industry in contemporary society are facing the third industrial revolution. The existing in concept have been undergoing changes at very high speed, and our reality is that it is difficult to come up with that speed of change. In fiber industry, both artistic and technological aspects are considered as important, and various fibers in which functional and aesthetic elements coexist not only exert a great influence upon pur lives but also take an important position. Especially materials being used as an expressional medium play an important role in the representation of artists individuality and creative desires. This study was to define the of fiber material and expand the sphere of it possible for use by investigating fiber materials, choosing, materials with which we could pursue natural formative beauty, and attempting certain formative expressions through the characteristics of materials. As a theoretical background, domestic and foreign literature data, relevant books, and periodicals have been referred to explore materials possible for being developed into fabric designs. In exploring proper expressional materials, the fishing line, copper wire, and rubber string have been chosen to apply such visual attributes of them as bendability, gloss, fixedness, elasticity, and flexibility to actual making. In creating relief expressions, as they can be classified by two aspects, technique and material, with the latter the reliefs have mainly been experimented. In this study, fishing line have been made into plain and double weaves, while copper wire and rubber string have been made mainly into weave. Of course each material has a different has a different relief expressional feel, but further expressions have been attempted according to the attributes or effects of each material. As a result of this study, the author could see the expressional differences by each material, fishing line, copper wire, and rubber string, and get unintended color effects through the interactions of the materials after using them together with cotton, wool and synthetic yarns. Nowadays, we can see relief expressions easily in clothes as well as in artistic works, so when we expand the concept of material and apply their merits to making a work, we could get another new and fresh feelings resulted from the difference in relief image by each material.
