직물디자인에 응용한 단청문양 연구 : 테이블클로스(table cloth) 중심으로

Abstract

우리민족의 문화유산인 단청속에 내재된 전통적 요소와 장식적 요소를 찾아내어 현대 생활속에 이용되는 물건에 표현함으로써 본 논자는 한국의 전통을 살려서 한국의 문화유산을 빛내고자 한다. 한국적요소는 우리주변의 여러 곳에 다양하게 분포되어 있지만 그 중에서도 한국의 고건축, 공예미술, 의류 등에 나타나는 단청을 이용하여 우리 주변에서 흔히 쓰이는 테이블클로스(table cloth)에 이용하고자 한다. 단청문양의 기하학적, 추상적 양식은 원, 세모, 육모, 팔모의 구성요소부터 응용되어져 다양한 문양이 선보인다. 단청은 주로 불사건축이나 고대 궁궐의 각 부분에서 흔적을 엿볼 수 있는데 단청이 건축물에 나타나게 된 까닭은 목조가구의 건축물을 오래 보존하고 목재질의 표면의 단점을 은폐하기 위해서이며 궁전이나 사찰의 권위를 나타내기 위하여 화려하고 장엄하게 표현하는 방법으로 단청은 절실히 요구되어졌다. 이렇게 단청은 우리나라에서 건물의 보존과 장식적인 효과를 놓이는데 크게 기여했고 또한 매우 심오한 정신세계를 반영하였으니 우리 민족 고유의 중요한 문화 산물이며 정서이다. 우리는 이러한 중요한 문화 산물을 되살려 일상생활에 자주 접하면서도 중요한 역할을 하고 있는 테이블 클로스(table cloth)에 단청문양을 응용해 본다면 무한한 창조적인 디자인 개발에 큰 부분을 담당하게 될 것이다. 경제의 고도성장에 따라 쾌적한 공간에 대한 요구는 높아지고 사람들의 생활양식이 다양해지면서 주거환경의 질(質)에 대한 관심이 점차 증가하므로 단순히 생활에 필요한 주요기능에만 만족하지 않고 보다 새롭고 개성 있는 실내공간을 추구하는 사람들이 늘고 있다. 이러한 현상은 사회적으로 일반화 되어가는 추세이고 또한 외래문화에 대한 선호도가 낮아지면서 한국적이미지의 전통문양에 대한 높은 인식과 함께 급진적인 발전이 여러 방면에서 뚜렷해지고 있다. 테이블 클로스는 공간연출의 부위기에 주조적(主調的) 역할을 도와주며 경제적으로 쉽게 교체할 수 있고 모든 공간을 손쉽게 연출가능하며 독특한 개성과 분위기 조성 등의 욕구를 충족시키는 경제성과 장식성이 있다. 또한 테이블 클로스(table cloth)는 물건에 부딪혀 소리를 내거나 미끄러지는 것을 막는데 유용하며 청결함은 물론 음식을 먹음직스럽게 해 줄뿐만 아니라 상대방에게 예의를 지키며, 피로감도 덜어주는 시각적, 심리적, 정서적 기능을 함께한다. 본 논자는 현대감각적인 디자인으로 우리민족의 중요한 문화유산인 단청문양을 실제 생산 가능한 개발로 이끌어내고 독창적이고 미적가치를 지닌 공간창출에 일익을 담당할 수 있도록 테이블 클로스를 제작하고자 한다. 현대의 발전된 기술과 전통문양인 단청의 충분한 미적요소를 이용하여 조직, 문양, 색상이 다양하지 못하여 개발이 지연되고 있는 테이블 클로스에 대한 집약적인 연구가 요구되어진다고 생각하여 테이블 클로스에 대한 이론적 연구를 바탕으로 작품 제작하였다. 작품제작에 있어 조직과 스크린 프린팅기법으로 단청문양의 자연미와 전통미를 바탕으로 우리 민족의 발자취와 민족미술의 우수성을 표현하였고 우리나라 실정과 특색에 맞는 테이블 클로스(table cloth) 디자인 개발을 목적으로 하였다. ; We will maintain our tradition and make the culture heritage of Korean brilliant by both finding the traditional and ornamental elements involved in the cultural heritage of Korean and expressing then the stuffs used in our current life. Though the elements of Korean style are distributed in our various parts, the Dan-chung present in the old architecture, clothes, and technical arts will be used in the design of table clothes. Various geometrical and abstract pattern of the dan-chung have been applied from the elements of circle, triangle, square, hexagon, and octagon. There has been a trace of Dan-chung in the parts of Buddhist architecture or palace. There were strong needs of dan-chung pattern in order to maintain he wooden architecture and avoid weak points of wood surface. The Dan-chung strongly contributed to the maintenance and ornamental effects of building, and reflected a deep mental world. Therefore, the Dan-chung is the culture heritage and emotions native to Korea. Reviving this important culture heritage and applying it to table clothes that are common to daily life, will be a big role in development of creative design. As economy grows fast, demand for individual and cozy space rather than a space just for simple living is increasing. As the preference for foreign culture decreases, there have been emerging high understanding and fast development of the traditional pattern having Korean images. These phenomena are being a general trend in our society. Table clothes can help one produce main atmosphere of space be easily exchanged economically, and it also has creativity to satisfy a desire for unique individually as well as formation of atmosphere. Table clothes are useful for stuffs to avoid bumping each or sliding. Table clothes have ability to make foods look clean and delicious, and also have visual, mental, and emotional function to observe the proprieties and decrease the feeling of triedness. The development of surface treatment and process methods such as prevention of pollution or fire resistance properties has enabled one to satisfy a peculiar life style that modern people is seeking for. In this study, table clothes having peculiarity, aesthetic value, and ability to create a space, is prepared by modifying the dan-chung into modern sensitive design. It is now possible to developed various kinds of pattern and display a sense of design, sing both developed technology and aesthetic elements of traditional Dan-chung pattern. It is also necessary to give an intense research in order to diversify the texture, pattern, and color of the Dan-chung design. These work of arts have been produced based on the theoretical study on the table clothes. The history and excellence of our national ares were expressed with the method of texture of variation and dye, based on the beauty of both our nature and tradition of in the production of the work of arts. It is also aimed to develop a design of table cloth which is appropriate for the actual circumstances and characteristics of or nation. Therefore, this study aims to diversity the dan-chung, model sense, and put into practice, so that it can contribute to creating a new fabric design appropriate for personality and preference of user. Furthermore, this study is intended to increase the competitive power of our national by means of crating a high value-added traditional design having Korean images.
