무용 실제에 근거한 무용비평 방법론에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 무용작품을 춤움직임특성에 기초하여, 객관적 시각으로 관찰할 수 있는 무용비평 방법론의 연구로 초점을 맞추었다. 무용예술에 대한 비평은 무용에 대한 철학적 편견과 무용예술의 특수성으로 인하여 타 예술비평에 비해 이론적 근거나 체계적 판단기준이 없어서 어려움이 많은 것이 사실이다. 우리나라 무용비평계의 경우, 무용작품의 복합적 의미체인 춤움직임의 특질들을 고려하지 않은 평문이 양산되고 있는 실정이다. 이러한 상황은 우리무용비평계의 문제점으로 지적되고있는 객관성의 결여의 문제점과 무용비평의 신뢰도 저하라는 문제점으로 나타났다. 연구자는 이러한 문제점들을 해결하기 위한 노력의 일환으로 무용비평방법론의 모델을 제시해 보고자 하였다. 여기서 무용의 실제란 무용현상에 실재(實在)하는 현상들 중 모든 무용예술작품의 불변의 요소인 춤움직임을 중심으로 논의를 모색하는 것을 지칭하며, 무용의 경험에서 추출된 그리고 무용작품 그 자체를 근본적으로 구성하는 핵심구성요소를 뜻한다. 이에 따라 본 비평 방법론에선 춤움직임의 중요성을 강조한 무용학자 김말복과 쥬디스 B. 알터 Judith B. Alter의 논의를 중심으로 고찰하였다. 이에 연구자는 그들이 제시하고있는 ‘무용수’ ‘춤추기’ ‘무용작품’을 실제적으로 무용예술을 존재하게 하는 수준들로 판단하였다. 그리고 그들이 제시한 측면들이 무용예술작품을 실제적으로 구성하는 대표적 카테고리로 관찰할 수 있는 시각을 제공한다고 보았다. 이에 연구자는 그들이 제시하는 바를 토대로 본 비평 방법론의 주요 카테고리 관점으로 추출하였다. 이에다 무용비평의 과정을 자냇 애드쉐드와 샐리 베인즈가 논의한 바 있는 기술, 해석, 평가의 과정으로 나누어 적용해서 각 단계에서 비평대상들을 뽑아내었다. 그리고 각 단계에서 비평방법 시 고려해야할 주안점들을 생각해 보았다. 본 무용비평방법론은 개념적 논의로써만 모색됐기 때문에 실제 무용비평에 적용하는데 그 체계나 구조에 대하여 미처 고려하지 못한 점이 있다고 본다. 그러므로 본 방법론을 실제 활용하는 데 필요한 추후논의가 후속적으로 연구될 필요가 있다. ; This paper focuses on the dance criticism that can be observed with objective view based on the quality of movement. It is true that the criticism of dance art has lots of difficulties compared with other art criticism, because it does not have theoretical basis and systematic judical standards due to the philosophical prejudice on dance and the uniqueness of dance art. In the case of our dance criticism field, dance criticism which dose not consider the quality of dance movement, that has a set of complex meaning in dance work has been yielded. This situation reveals the problem of lack of objectivity in our field of dance criticism, and the lowered credibility of dance criticism. As part of efforts to solve these problems, I suggest a model of methodology of dance criticism. Here the dance practice is the core component of dance work that is from the experience of dance and consists basically the dance work itself. So, as a central issue I look through the discussions of Kim Mal Borg and Judith B. Alter, who emphasized the importance of dance movement. Hereby I suggest the dancer dancing dance concepts which are taken from kim Mal borg, as a concept that make it possible the existence of dance art. And also considered are that the three aspects provide a view of observing representative categories that practically comprises dance art work. Based on their suggestions, the author extracted the main categorical view of this methodology of dance criticism. Besides, in the course of dividing the process of dance criticism into description, interpretation, evaluation and adapting these as the process of dance criticism, the author selected the elements that constitute criticism in each stage. Also the author considered principles related in each steps of criticism. Because this dance criticism methodology is groped for as conceptual discussion, so there should be post discussion about the structure of methodology of dance criticism and how to solve the problems arisen when adapting practically.
