추상표현에 의한 디지털 텍스타일 프린팅 디자인 : 섬유변형에 의한 모티브를 중심으로

Abstract

섬유는 예로부터 인간의 필요에 의해 생활 속에서 친근하고 밀접한 관계를 유지하면서 시대의 변화에 따라 소재와 기술면에서 많은 발전을 하여 왔고 오늘날에는 실용성을 겸비한 한 분야로서 현대 섬유 예술의 형성에 이르렀다. 이미 선사 시대로부터 인류는 여러 섬유 기법을 일상생활에서 이용하였지만 그것을 오늘의 시각으로 재해석하여 작업에 응용한 것은 전적으로 작가의 역량이라 하겠다. 이렇게 조형세계가 시대적 요청에 의해 현대적 시각으로 바뀐 이상 현대적 표현양식으로서의 독자적 생성과정과 가치체계에 대한 이해와 표현은 필수적이며, 조형의식의 확대와 소재의 다양성 다각적 표현방법의 확장이라는 측면에서 섬유예술인의 한 장르인 텍스타일 디자인에서도 조형세계의 재해석은 포용되어야 할 것이다. 끊임없이 생산되는 각종 섬유 재료와 날로 새로워지는 소재 조직 및 가공의 발전에서 크게 주목되는 것은 그 다음 단계에 올 디자인의 고부가가치인 것이다. 현대의 텍스타일 디자인은 인구 증가와 소득 수준의 향상에 따라 그 수요의 범위가 양적으로 확대되고 질적으로 고급화되어 다양화되었음을 인식 할 필요가 있다. 따라서 디자인을 창조하는 예술성과 함께 우수한 디자인이 최종적인 직물로 완성되도록 기능적 조건들이 충족되어야 한다. 이런 의미에서 본 연구자는 창조적인 디자인을 위하여 그것을 구성하는 소재의 중요성을 깨닫고 섬유의 변형된 형태에서 모티브를 찾아 패턴화 하는 것을 연구하였다. 또한 컴퓨터를 통해 이미지를 재현함으로서 창조물을 형상화하였으며, 첨단 프린트기의 사용으로 그것의 섬세한 표현을 관조자와 공감할 수 있게 하였다 본 연구는 고부가가치가 있는 창의적인 텍스타일 디자인을 연구하기 위하여 다음과 같은 과정으로 진행되었다. 첫째, 순수예술과 섬유예술에 있어서 추상표현의 개념과 발달과정을 문헌적 고찰을 통한 이론적 이해와 함께, 이와 비교하여 텍스타일 디자인에서의 추상표현이 가능한가에 대하여 알아보았다. 둘째, 창조적인 디자인을 위한 모티브 창출에 있어서 섬유조직의 변형에 의한 외관의 변형을 이론적으로 접근하고 기존 섬유의 표면에 물리적 방법으로 변형을 꽤 하였다. 셋째, 다양한 패턴의 종류와 배열, 표현, 기법을 통해 추상적인 섬유 변형의 모티브가 자연스럽게 구성될 수 있는 방법을 연구하고 컴퓨터를 이용한 재구성을 통하여 수작업에 의한 패턴디자인과의 차별성을 가늠해 보고자 하였다. 넷째, 디지털 텍스타일 프린터를 이용해 작업한 결과물을 통해 디자인의 개선점과 발전 가능성을 제안하고 기존의 날염 기법이 갖고 있던 한계점을 극복할 수 있는가를 연구하였다. 이러한 과정을 통해 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 텍스타일 디자인에서도 다른 장르의 미술과 마찬가지로 추상표현이 자연스럽게 패턴화 될 수 있었으며, 그것은 작가의 주관적인 내적 감정이 직물에 표현됨으로서 기존의 상업화 된 직물의 패턴들과 차별화 될 수 있었다. 둘째, 작품의 소재로 선택한 섬유 소재들의 다양한 변형은 창조적인 디자인의 모티브로 적용 가능하였으며, 가시적 섬유의 흐트러짐과 텍스춰의 표현이 다시 다른 섬유 안에서 표현됨으로서 독창적인 작품세계로의 무한한 가능성이 있다는 것을 알았다. 셋째, 컴퓨터를 이용한 패턴 디자인의 용이성과 작업의 정확성, 시간적 효율성을 높이는데 있어서 중요한 역할을 하였으며 디자인을 위한 작가의 예술 지향적 표현을 대중화시키는데 필수 조건임을 확인 할 수 있었다. 넷째, 첨단 기술의 발달로 여러 가지 혜택을 받고 있는 현대는 이 시대를 살아가는 예술가들의 창작 활동에 있어서 기술적인 면에서 큰 도움을 주고 있었다. 첨단 디지털 프린팅 시스템을 이용해 기존에 표현하기 어려웠던 다양한 요구 조건을 능률적이고 효과적으로 얻을 수 있었다. 본 연구자는 이번 연구에서 섬유 조직의 변형된 모티브를 통해 텍스타일 디자인에 있어서 추상표현의 가능성을 타진해 보았으며, 첨단 장비인 디지털 텍스타일 프린터의 섬세한 표현 가능성이 기존 날염이 갖고 있는 한계점을 극복하면서 디자이너들의 새로운 감각과 창의력 표현에 큰 도움을 주리라 생각된다. ; Textiles have greatly developed in the aspect of materials and technology, keeping close and friendly relationship with human beings. Today, they are forming modern fiber art as a field with practicality and functionality. From ancient times, human beings started to used various fiber techniques in their daily lives, but it is an artist s power that re-translated it and applied it to work in today s point of view. As long as modelling world has changed its view as modern by the request of its time, it is essential for us to understand the unique creating process and the value system of modeling as modern expression. In the sense of expanding modeling thoughts and various kinds of expression methods, it should be included in textile design, part of fiber art. The subject of our great attention is value added of design of the next step, and it is textile design that can elevate the value. We need to recognize that modern textile design is being diversified according to the increase of population and income level, and its level of quantity and quality is also elevated. Accordingly, functional conditions as well as artistic senses should be satisfied to make excellent design into excellent textiles. In this sense, I realized the importance of material for creative design, and I studied how make patterns with transformed textiles. Also, I formed the creature through computer image, and made advanced printer co exist with its viewer. This study is progressed to examine creative textile design. First, I examined the concept and developing process of abstract expression in art and fiber art through literature study, and looked if abstract expression is possible in textile design. Second, in creating a motive for creative design, I made a theoretical approach to the transformation of appearance, and tried to make a transformation on the surface of textiles by physical methods. Third, through various kinds of patterns, their arrangement, form and technique, I studied the methods of naturally composing the motive of textile transformation, and measures differentiation from other manually worked pattern designs. Fourth, I worked using a digital textile printer, suggested things to be improved and the possibility of developing design through the result of study, and studied if we could overcome limits of the existing textile printing. Through the process of this study, I have the result as the following. First, I could naturally pattern abstract expression just in other genres of textiles design, and I could also differentiate it from commercialized textiles by expressing inner emotion of an artist. Second, I could use the transformation of various kinds of textiles chosen as the material of work for a motive, and I also found that texture expression and dispersion of visual fiber had an infinitive possibility of unique work world by expressing textures in other fiber. Third, repetition through the computer played an important role to elevate the diversification of patterns, exactness of work and efficiency, and I could confirm that it is an essential condition of popularizing the expression of an artist s art-oriented expression. Fourth, in the modern times that we are benefited by leading technology, the technology is giving a lot of help to an artist s creation. Using advanced digital printing system, I could earn various required conditions that was possible in the existing system. In this study, I examined the possibility of abstract expression in textile design through the motive of fiber transformation. I think the delicate expression of digital textile printer will overcome the limits of the existing textile printing, and it will help designers express their new senses and creativity.
