식물문양을 응용한 텍스타일 디자인 연구

Abstract

18세기에 시작된 산업혁명은 섬유생산에 있어서도 대량생산이나 기계화를 가져와 오늘날과 같은 발전을 이룩하였다. 특히 섬유산업은 산업혁명의 시발점이었으며, 산업혁명의 시작과 더불어 대량생산에 치중함으로써 점점 획일화와 기계화가 되었다. 그리하여 섬유디자인에 있어서도 획일화와 기계적인 디자인이 중심을 이루게 되었다. 산업혁명이 인간 생활 전반에 가져온 변혁은 대량생산이었지만, 오늘날 현대 섬유 산업의 발달은 품질의 향상을 필요로 하고 있다. 그러므로 섬유 디자인을 함에 있어서 창의적인 패턴(Pattern)의 개발로 고도로 전문화된 디자인이 필요로 한다고 할 수 있다. 오늘날 섬유 산업은 대량생산된 제품에서 고도로 전문화된 디자인으로 다양한 소비자의 다양한 욕구를 충족시키는 제품으로 수요가 변화하고 있다. 그러므로 지금 이 시점에서 필요한 것은 대량생산에 의한 획일화된 디자인의 제품보다는 다양화된 개인의 요구가 잘 나타나 있으며, 개성 있게 손으로 직접 제작 디자인한 수공예 제품이 요구된다고 할 수 있다. 특히 21세기를 바라보는 현재는 획일화된 디자인에 의해 대량생산된 제품보다는 예술성을 지닌 미술 작품을 실용화시켜 상업적으로 만드는 것이 더 중요하리라 생각된다. 따라서 본 연구는 첫째, 현대 사회 산업과 과학의 고도의 발달로 인한 모든 부분에 있어 단순화되고 실용화되는 점을 고려, 텍스타일 디자인 패턴에 있어서도 단순화된 미니멀한 패턴들에 대하여 연구한다. 둘째, 식물문양 패턴을 중심으로 연구하면서 공예사와 텍스타일 분야에 큰 영향을 미친 윌리엄 모리스의 예술세계와 그의 수공예제품을 바탕으로 다양한 식물문양 패턴을 디자인 한다. 셋째, 현대 텍스타일에 있어서 경향 칼라와 모티브를 연구 분석하여 식물문양 패턴을 디자인하는데 적용한다. 넷째, 작품 제작시 핸드 페인팅 기법을 이용하여 다양한 식물문양 패턴을 디자인하여 실제 의상에 착용시켰을 경우 디자인의 효율성을 높이기 위해 컴퓨터 그래픽을 활용하여 다양하게 패턴화 시키므로 원단으로 실제 사용할 수 있는 실용성을 보여주도록 한다. 다섯째, 텍스타일 디자인(Textile Design)의 변천 과정을 살펴보면서 앞으로 디자인해야 할 방향을 설정해 본다. 이번 연구를 통해 내츄럴리즘에 근거한 다양한 식물 문양의 연구를 통해 다양한 식물모양의 잎들과 줄기, 꽃 등의 고전적인 텍스타일 패턴을 단순화 시켜 현대적인 감각에 맞게 디자인함으로서 어떻게 현대 시대의 트랜드에 부합되는가를 알아 볼 수 있었다. 이러한 과정에서 윌리암 모리스의 예술세계와 사상을 알고 그의 다양한 식물문양패턴을 연구 활용하는 것도 필요 할 것이다. 모리스는 진정한 예술이란 “사용자와 제작자를 위한 행복으로써, 민중을 위해서 민중에 의해서 만들어져야 한다.”라고 말함으로써 예술의 대중화를 중요하게 나타내고 이것의 영향으로 예술의 실용화를 추구하고 있는 계기를 마련하게 해 주었다고 생각되어진다. 또한 모리스는 산업혁명에 의한 예술과 인간성의 분리, 즉 기계화, 산업화라는 것에 대하여 수공예적인 것을 주장하였다. 이러한 상황에서 나타난 수공예적 성격을 바탕으로 지금 현대 트랜드를 반영하여 텍스타일 디자인에 활용하는 것이다. 이러한 이론을 바탕으로 한 작품제작을 통하여 현대 텍스타일에 있어 가장 중심이 되어온 식물 문양 패턴을 현대적 감각에 맞게 단순화시키고, 또한 실제 의상에 적용시킬 수 있는 단순화된 모티브와 트랜드(Trend) 칼라를 결합시켜 실용성을 추구할 수 있었다. 특히 회화성과 자연스러움을 표현하고자 우리 전통 소재인 노방을 이용하여 다양한 식물 문양을 핸드 페인팅(Hand Painting)으로 표현함으로써 전통 소재인 실크 노방이 어떻게 현대적인 의상으로 표현될 수 있는가를 알아보았다. 이러한 작업을 통하여 우리의 전통소재를 대중화하고 실용화 시키는 것 도한 중요하다는 것을 알았다. 수공예 느낌의 텍스타일 디자인을 함에 있어 미와 쓰임이라는 두 요소를 적절하게 융화시킬 때 진정한 아름다움과 실용성이 있는 제품을 제작할 수 있다고 생각하며, 앞으로도 지속적인 작품 제작을 통하여 새로운 디자인을 제시하고자 한다. ; The Fabric has developed with the civilization of people, and it was the most familiar materials in human life, The fabric has a both practical and aesthetic roles as an essential thing to our life. Simplified or practical design and complicated or artistic design are exsisted at the same time in the textile field according to artist s intend and aims. The clothing in olden times served its ends as a protection of human boy, and it changed its ends as a "representation of self." Clothing is the most elemental factor in self-representation and the fabric is the most basic element in clothing. Compare to the 18th century Industrial Revolution, new industrial revolution is spreading at a far greater speed. The deeper and wider effects from this rapid revolution ar changing industries, society, life styles, and even our values. Especially mass-production and technological development enabled to produce various materials in the fabrics. I think the fabric through good design has high value as a merchandise, and pattern-design in fabric is the most important factor in clothing. Today s fabric industry needs products with technical, professional and specialized design rather than mass-products with standardized design. Therefor hand-made fabrics with specialized design are more valuable than mass-products. The industrial revolution brought quantitative and technical development in the textile field. But this made textile products to be uniformed and mechanized, and it also made simplified design in fabrics. On the contrary hand-made products became more and more important than mass-products in now days. This situation need utilization of the fabric art works to get commercialized effects. Consumers may welcome hand-made products because the circumstances of the changing consumers needs, the hand-made products are playing very important roles. So this research planned to - 1. study of the today s textile design and textile patterns. 2. so study patterns of tree and flower motif which were influenced from modern society in connection with today s textile pattern, trend, and color. Also study of minimal floral print and pattern in textile design. 3. to make art fabrics by Korea traditional silk which is based on patterns of tree and flower motif using of hand printing method. Study William Morris, regards as the origin of today s textile design and his textile pattern. 4. to make clothing with hand-made fabric to practical use. 5. to make fabric by hand painting and use by Computer graphics. We have only hand-made products as a small one like neck-tie or scart today. But we need to try making clothes using of hand-made fabrics. I think classical textile patterns of William Morris in 19th century are accord with new natural trend of textile patterns in the present day. William Morris s various tree and flower motif can be simplified pattern to fit modern sensibility and to practical use. I made hand-painting on Korean silks using these pattern to show natural and pictorial effects. To practical use, I choose simple motif and trendy colour which is accord with modern sensibility. From this research I got to know classical pattern of William Morris and Korean silk(no-bang) are transformed to fabulous modern fabrics and clothing. We need to popularize and utilize our traditional materials as modern fabrics. I think the harmony of artistic beauty and practical use ar very important to make artistic and useful fabrics, and I will make fabrics and clothing which is based on this conception.
