劉成俊制 '水宮歌' 硏究 : 바디별 대목 비교를 중심으로

Abstract

현재 전승되는 판소리 <수궁가>에는 동편제<수궁가>와 서편제 <수궁가>가 있다. 동편제에는 유성준제와 송만갑제, 서편제에는 정응민제가 전승되는데 이 중 유성준제가 가장 활발히 전승되고 있다. 유성준제 <수궁가>에는 본인이 공부한 김연수-오정숙 바디와 박초월-김수연 바디를 비롯하여 이 외에도 임방울 바디, 정광수 바디, 박동진 바디가 전승되고 있다. 이들 다섯 바디의<수궁가>가 약간씩 서로 다른 특성을 지니고 있으므로, 이 바디들을 비교하여 서로 어떻게 같고 어떻게 다른지, 그리고 어느 바디가 유성준제의 원형에 가깝고 어느 바디가 많이 변형되었는지 살펴보고자 한다. 먼저, 유성준제 <수궁가>의 각 바디별 대목 구성을 비교하여 공통된 대목과 공통되지 않은 대목을 추려내여 어느 바디가 유성준제 <수궁가>의 원형에 가깝고, 어느 바디가 가장 많이 변형되었는지 살펴보았다. 그 후, 공통된 대목에 한하여 사설, 장단, 부침새, 악조를 살펴보았다. 이상과 같은 방법으로 유성준제 <수궁가>를 연구해본 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 대목 구성을 살펴보니 임방울 바디가 44대목, 박초월 바디가 46대목, 박동진 바디가 53대목, 정광수 바디가 56대목, 김연수 바디가 68대목으로 되어 있어 임방울 바디가 가장 짧고, 김연수 바디가 가장 길었다. 이 중 임방울 바디는 다른 바디들과 비교해서 두 대목을 생략한 것을 제외하면 박초월 바디와 가장 흡사했다. 그러나, 박동진 바디와 정광수 바디는 비록 세 대목 수의 차이가 나지만 대목 구성과 대목 사설이 많이 달랐다. 김연수 바디는 신재효 사설의 영향으로 다른 바디에 없는 대목을 많이 추가하였다. 둘째, 사설을 살펴보니 한 대목에서 사설의 길이가 임방울 바디와 박초월 바디가 가장 짧고 두 바디는 서로 비슷하였다. 임방울 바디의 사설은 오자(誤字)가 많고, 발음이 부정확하여 가사 전달이 잘 되지 않았다. 박초월 바디의 사설은 깔끔하고, 여창이라서 그런지 비속, 저속어가 없었다. 정광수 바디, 김연수 바디의 사설은 정광수와 김연수가 사설을 다시 정리하여서 그런지 꼼꼼하고 치밀하게 짜여 있었다. 특히 김연수 바디는 신재효 창본의 많은 영향을 받아 다른 바디에 없는 사설이 많았다. 박동진 바디의 사설은 저속어가 많고 통속적인 육담이 많이 나왔다. 셋째, 장단을 살펴보니 박동진 바디가 다른 바디들과 장단을 달리 한 대목이 가장 많았고, 다음으로 정광수 바디가 장단에 변형을 주었다. 같은 장단이라도 임방울 바디의 장단 템포가 가장 빨랐고, 박초월 바디의 장단템포가 가장 느렸다. 넷째, 부침새를 살펴보니 임방울 바디는 대마디대장단을 많이 사용하여 별 부침새가 없었고, 정광수 바디가 가장 화려했다. 정광수 바디의 부침새가 좋은 이유는 정광수가 김창환에게서 좋은 부침새를 공부하여 그가 새로 부침새를 짰기 때문이라 생각된다. 다섯째, 악조를 살펴보니 임방울 바디와 박동진 바디에 계면이 많았다. 특히 임방울은 설렁제로 된 "방게등장", 우조로 된 "소상팔경"등 많은 대목에 계면을 섞어 거의 모든 대목에 계면을 사용했다. 정광수 바디는 우조의 대목이 많았고, 박초월 바디, 김연수 바디는 평조의 대목이 많았다. 결국, 대목 구성, 대목 사설은 임방울 바디와 박초월 바디가 유성준제 원형에 가장 가깝다고 볼 수 있다. 장단 및 부침새, 악조는 박초월 바디, 김연수 바디, 정광수 바디가 유성준제 원형에 가깝다고 볼 수 있다. 이것으로 박초월 바디가 유성준제 <수궁가>의 원형을 가장 잘 유지하고 있다고 할 수 있다. ; Pansori Sugung-ga (수궁가) has the two different musical styles. One is the Eastern School (Tongpyonje; 동편제) Sugung-ga, the other is the Western School (Sopyonje; 서편제). Yu Song Jun Je (style); (유성준제) and Song Man Gap Je (style) : (송만갑제) are Tongpyonje, Chong Ung Min Je 정응민제 is Sopyonje. Yu Song Jun Je had been handed down very popularly. Sugung-ga by Yu Song Jun had been transmitted to us through Kim Yon Su (김연수), Park Cho Wol (박초월), Im Pang Ul (임방울), Chong Kwang Su (정광수), and Park Dong Jin (박동진). These five Badis (바디) have differences in their whole structure. This article aims at discovering the changes of Yu Song Jun Je Sugung-ga in its transmission process and which one is the most similar to the authentic tradition of Yu Song Jun Je. To serve my purpose, I studied these ` lyrics, rhythm, a variety of arrangement of text, tune and compared them respectively. As the result of the analysis on the musical characteristics of Yu Song Jun Je Sugung-ga, the conclusions are as the following. Firstly, looking at the passages, Im Pang Ul Badi consists of 44 passages, Park Cho Wol Badi 46 passages, Park Dong Jin Badi 53 passages, Chong Kwang Su Badi 56 passages, and Kim Yon Su Badi 68passages. Im Pang Ul Badi is the shortest, and Kim Yon Su Badi is the longest. Im Pang Ul Badi is similar to Park Cho Wols Badi except two omitted passaes. However, there are differences between Park Dong Jin Badi and Chong Kwang Su Badi in the structure of passages and lyrics. Kim Yon Su Badi has something new and this is due to Shin Jae Hyos (신재효) influence. Secondly, observing the lyrics, Im Pang Ul Badi and Park Cho Wol Badi are short and similar to each other. Im Pang Ul Badi has so many incorrect words and obscure sounds that communication is not easy. Park Cho Wol Badi is relatively flat and there is no slang. Chong Kwang Su Badi and Kim Yon Su Badi are elaborate because they rewrote their text. Especially, Kim Yon Su Badi has unique lyrics because of the influence of Shin Jae hyo. Park Dong Jin Badi has a lot of slang and sexual words. Thirdly, comparing the rhythm, Park Dong Jin Badi has the most different rhythm among these five Badis and Chong Kwang Su Badi is the next. Im Pang Ul Badi is the fastest in tempo, and Park Cho Wol Badi is the slowest. Fourthly, looking at the arrangement of text, Im Pang Ul Badi uses so many Daemady Daechangdan (대마디대장단) that there is no certain arrangement of text. However, Chong Kwang Su Badi has a various arrangement of text. This is because Kim Chang Whan (김창환) had taught him good skills. Lastly, examining the tune (악조), Im Pang Ul Badi and Park Dong Jin Badi have a lot of Kyemyon (계면). Especially, Im Pang Ul uses so many Kyemyon. In this Bady, for example, the song of Pang-ge Dungchang (방게 등장) is based upon Sul-lung Je (설렁제), and Sosang Pyung-geng (소상팔경) is based upon Ujo (우조). Chong Kwang Su Badi has a lot of Ujo. Park Cho Wol and Kim Yon Su use Pyongjo (평조) very frequently. In conclusion, from the viewpoint of both the structure of passages and lyrics, Im Pang Ul Badi is the most similar to the origlnal type, Yu Song Jun Je. Relating to the rhythm, an arrangement of text and tune, Park Cho Wol Badi, Kim Yon Su Badi, and Chong Kwang Su Badi are the most similar to the original type. Therefore, this fact means that Park Cho Wol Badi is the most similar to the authentic tradition of Yu Song Jun Je Sugung-ga totally.
