1980년대 한국 사회 구조에 나타난 현대무용 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 예술과 사회의 상관성의 이론적 토대를 바탕으로 1980년대 한국 현대 무용과 사회와의 연관성을 규명하기 위한 연구로 이를 위해 1980년대 한국 현대 무용의 사회적 배경과 특수성을 살펴보고 그러한 사회적 접근을 통해서 1980년대 한국 현대 무용의 특성을 고찰해 보았다. 1980년대 들어와서 한국사회가 국내적으로 겪은 정치적 변화는 박정희 정권의 유신 체제가 제 5공화국의 군사 독재체제로 이어지는 급격한 변화를 겪은 시대이다. 뿐만 아니라 6.29 선언과 함께 밀어닥친 민주주의 와 자유 지향적 사회 분위기는 오랫동안억압에 눌려 왔던 불균형의 사회 속에서 여러 종류의 혼란을 야기하였다. 민족 문화 예술의 발전이라는 이념 하에 출발한 정부의 문화 예술 정책은 문학, 미술, 음악, 연극 및 무용에 새로운 변화와 발전을 일으켰다. 문화 예술 행정에 대한 정부의 제도적 지원과 무용에 대한 인식의 변화는 한국 현대 무용이 발전하는데 기반을 마련해 주었다. 이를 통해서 1980년대 한국 현대 무용의 사회적 특수성은 다방면에서의 양적 팽창이다. 첫째, 현대 춤에 대한 활발한 지원 사업은 창작 의욕 고취와 작품 개발 및 단체 육성에 활력소를 불어넣어 주었다. 둘째, 무용제도의 확충으로 대학 무용과의 신설에 의해 춤 전문인들의 절대적 증가는 많은 동문 단체들이 조성되어 활발한 활동을 야기시키면서 양적인 확보를 가져오는 동시에 공연 횟수의 증가가 이루어졌다. 셋째, 소극장 중심의 기획 프로그램의 활성화와 같은 소극장 운동의 확산과 전통적인 극장 양식에서 벗어난 야외 공연의 무대 공간의 다양화는 젊은 세대의 창작 욕구기회의 증대와 함께 다양한 실험적 접근으로 춤의 대중화를 가져왔다. 넷째, 활발한 국제 교류는 현대 무용가들에게 다양한 예술적 욕구를 충족시켰고 개방화와 세계화에 크게 기여하였다. 다섯째, 춤 문화에 대한 전달 매체의 증가는 전문적이고 다양한 무용의 정보를 제공함으로서 창작활동에 도움을 받을 수 있으며, 일반인들에게 무용예술에 대한 관심을 갖게 함으로써 무용 관객의 저변 확대를 가져 올 수 있다. 이와 같은 사회적 특수성을 바탕으로 1980년대 한국 현대 무용에 나타난 특성은 정치·사회적 측면에서는 정치·사회적 관점의 표출과 예술적 측면에서는 세계화에 발맞춘 한국화 작업으로 나타났다. 정치·사회적 관심을 현대 무용의 작품 주제로 텍스트화 하여 사회 문제를 비판하는 동시에 시대 사조적인 감정과 감각을 표현하고 동시대적인 삶의 표출이라는 점에서 표현 대상의 확대라는 의미를 지닌다. 세계화에 발맞춘 한국화 작업은 마사그라함 테크닉에 대한 집착이 약화되면서 개방화 세계화 속에서 한국의 전통적인 소재를 현대 무용에 접목하여 전통과 현대의 조화를 이루며 현 시대 상황과 대외적으로 높은 공감대를 형성할 수 있었다. 현대춤 창작의 메카니즘은 현대의 기계적인 산물인 대중매체와 각종장비와 소품을 이용한 실험적 안무의 접근을 통해서 제한된 공간으로부터 그 표현영역의 확장과 다양한 양식을 결합한 총체적 표현의 경향을 나타내었다. 그런 의미에서 한국 현대 무용이 추상적이거나 절대적 미를 추구 한다든가 하는 절대성의 개념에서 벗어나 전통성과 현대성, 사회현실의 반영 등이 한국 현대 무용에서 자연스럽게 표출되었다는 점에서 1980년대 한국 현대 무용의 가치를 얻을 수 있으며 이 시대의 사회적 분위기는 1980년대 이후의 현대무용의 전반적인 소재나 내용에 새로운 표현기법을 창출하고 발전을 도모할 수 있었던 견인차 역할에 정치·사회·문화적으로 유효했음을 알 수 있었다. ; This study is aimed at identifying relation between the 1980 s Korean modern dance and society based on the theory of art and society. It examines the social background and particularity of Korean modern dance in the 1980s, and also looks at the features of Korean modern dance in the 1980 s through the social approach. The political change that Korean society went through in the 1980 s happened when the revitalizing reform of Korean ex-president Park Jung-hee was transferred to a military dictator s regime. Also, democracy and freedom-oriented social atmosphere caused various kinds of chaos in unbalanced society. Having started under the ideology of development of national culture, the government s policy of culture and art aroused new change and development in the field of literature, art, music and dance. The government s systematic support to administration of culture and art and change of thoughts of dance made foundation of the development of Korean modern dance. Through it, we can define the social feature of Korean modern dance as quantitative expansion in the 1980s. First, active support for modern dance inspired creation and raised related groups. Second, newly established dance departments in college absolutely expanded young experts of dance, and it caused a lot of alumni groups to have positive action as well as to increase the number of performance. Third, the expansion of small theater movement such as the activation of small theater-based programs and the diversification of performance stages brought the popularization of dance as various experimental approach. Fourth, international exchanges satisfied modern dancers desires of art, and it also contributed to globalization. Fifth, increase of the media of delivering dance culture provided professional and diverse information of dance, helps dancers with their creative work, and it also can expand the foundation of dance audience. The features of Korean modern dance based on the social peculiarity as written above appeared as expression of political and social point of view in the aspect of politics and society and Koreanization in the aspect of art. It means criticism of social interest through the theme of dance as well as expression of contemporaries lives. Koreanization work in the globalized society happened by applying Korean traditional material to modern dance with obsession about Martha Graham s technique weakened, and it aroused public sympathy. In this sense, Korean modern dance in the 1980s is valuable in that it naturally expresses tradition, modernism and social reality escaping the concept of absolutism. The social atmosphere of that time was effective in the aspect of politics, society and culture with the role of modern dance which had created new techniques and general materials.
