모-자녀관계 및 자아존중감과 청소년의 성취동기

Abstract

본 연구는 모-자녀관계 및 자아존중감이 청소년의 성취동기와 어떠한 관계가 있는지를 살펴보고, 자아존중감이 모-자녀관계와 청소년의 성취동기간의 관계에서 매개적 역할을 하는지를 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 본 연구의 대상은 D시의 거주 환경이 비슷한 2개구에 위치한 중학교의 2학년에 재학중인 284명의 남녀 청소년이다. 성취동기는 Herman(1970)이 개발한 Prestatie Motivatie Test를 번안하여 사용하였다. 모-자녀관계는 어머니의 양육행동과 모-자녀간 의사소통을 포함하며, 어머니의 양육행동은 온정성, 거부/제재 및 허용/방임 요인으로 구성되어 있고, 도현심과 최미경(1998)의 문항들을 주로 이용하였으며, 박성연과 이숙(1990)의 양육행동 척도 가운데 권위주의적 통제 요인 중 4문항을 수정하여 사용하였다. 모-자녀간 의사소통은 Barnes와 Olson(1982)의 Parent-Adolescent Communication Inventory(PACI)를 번안하여 사용하였으며, 자아존중감은 Rosenberg(1965)의 Self-Esteem Scale을 번안하여 이용하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 모-자녀관계에서 어머니의 양육행동 중 온정성과 거부/제재 요인은 청소년의 성취동기와 유의한 상관이 있었다. 즉, 어머니의 온정성이 높을수록 청소년의 성취동기는 높고, 어머니가 거부/제재적일수록 청소년의 성취동기가 낮았다. 반면에, 어머니의 허용/방임은 청소년의 성취동기와 유의한 상관을 나타내지 않았다. 또한 모-자녀간 의사소통의 하위요인인 개방적 의사소통과 역기능적 의사소통 모두 청소년의 성취동기와 유의한 관계를 보여, 어머니와 자녀간의 개방적 의사소통이 많고, 역기능적 의사소통이 적을수록 청소년의 성취동기는 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 자아존중감은 청소년의 성취동기와 유의한 관계가 있어, 자아존중감이 높을수록 성취동기는 높게 나타났다. 마지막으로, 청소년의 자아존중감은 어머니의 거부/제재와 청소년의 성취동기간의 관계에서 부분 매개적 역할을, 역기능적 의사소통과 청소년의 성취동기간의 관계에서는 완전 매개적 역할을 하였다. 이를 통해, 모-자녀관계에 대한 지각 자체보다는 이러한 지각으로 인한 자아존중감이 청소년의 성취동기를 결정하는데 보다 더 중요한 역할을 한다는 것을 알 수 있다. ; The purpose of this study was to examine the relations between mother-adolescent relationships, adolescents self-esteem and adolescents achievement motivation. The mediating role of adolescents self-esteem was also explored in the relations between mother-adolescent relationships and adolescents achievement motivation. The subjects of this study consisted of 284 2nd-grade middle school students living in D city. This study used four kinds of questionnaires based on Prestatie Motivatie Test by Herman(1970), Maternal Childrearing Behaviors by Doh & Choi(1998), Parent-Adolescent Communication Inventory by Barnes & Olson(1982), and Self-Esteem Scale by Rosenberg(1965). The main results of the study were as follows: First, maternal warmth and rejection/restriction was significantly related with adolescents achievement motivation. Adolescents who experienced higher maternal warmth showed higher achievement motivation, while adolescents who experienced higher maternal rejection/restriction showed lower achievement motivation. Open family communication and problem in family communication was significantly related with adolescents achievement motivation. Adolescents who experienced higher open family communication reported higher achievement motivation, and those adolescents who experienced higher problem in family communication reported lower achievement motivation. Second, self-esteem was significantly related with adolescents achievement motivation. The higher self-esteem was, the higher adolescents achievement motivation was. Finally, adolescents self-esteem mediated in the relations between mother-adolescent relationships and their achievement motivation. In conclusion, the adolescents self-esteem derived from the perception about mother-adolescent relationships plays more important role in determining the adolescents achievement motivation than the perception itself on mother-adolescent relationships.
