The turn of the 21st century has further increased the human desire to live around a naturat environment particular with our advanced developments in science and diversions created in culture. Today due to the ceaseless inflow of westenl influences, the culture of every individual nation has become mere yersatile. Such phenomenon has also affected our life styles. It has made it mere complex. Hence a spiritual securitY and satisfaction is needed in such a fast changing society This can be attained through art whore the mind Is able to discover new inner realms and expenences. In a complex life as ours today, simple clean geometric shapes can attract the contemporarY aesthetics with their specific qualities in form. As a result it can liberate peoples mlnds. Formative art uses a chosen subject to translate different concepts through a single expression. Although art can be referred to as the baslc act of creatlon, it Is also a means to express the mental state of the maker. The form and the artists spirit when combined together, gives result to one complete expression in art. Consequently, in ordor to satisfy the contemporarY preferonce in art, the study has chosen cYlindrical forms to express different ideas and concepts. Here the cylinder has been used kineticalIY and it has been transformod into a series of irregular shapes. A generat research was conducted on the relationship of form and art. Then the study examined various different expressions using the cylinder These have been analyzed to find different ways of transforming it. The cylinder shape is often used in our environment as tools, poles and other purposes. The study has observed these factors to create a series of transformatlon. Here the rectangular parelleleplped and half cylinder forms have been analyzed for a simplified transformation. For decorative expressions the form was assembled and disassembled. The work was made using the slip-casting and slab-building methods In coramics. Some of the werk was also carved and sculpted A stoneware clay body consisting of a smooth body and chamotte, was used. For a coarse texture black glaze and iron glaze were applied. Some were left unglazed. The first firing was conducted in a 0.53∮㉢ gas kiln. It was fired for 8 hour5 reachlng a temporature of 900E' . The second finng was done In a 0.73∮㉢ gas kiln. The temporature reached 1250E' in 9 hours. This was an oxidation firing. Also some of the werk was fired in a 0.53∮㉢ gas kiln to 1240 E' in a reduction firing that took If hours. The forms were assembled, disassembled and twisted. The study has proved that the cylinder can be used to express nomerous different forms. The form itself is simple, clean and pure. It is also possible to combine this partlcular form with other geometric shapes. The shape itself can be used perpendicularly or in parallel to create different expressions. The study became mere than a simplified interprelation of the cylinder form. It provlded the means to recreate the form In art. Thls study hopes for other artists to research on this particular subject to create many other intoresting forms in art.;
