패각을 주제로 표현한 도자촛대 디자인 연구

Abstract

인간은 본능적으로 아름다움을 보고 즐기는 것을 좋아한다 무의식적인 감정의 변화와 동요가 있기 때문에 아름다운 것을 보았을 때 마음은 선해지고 평화와 안정을 찾게된다. 불안하고 빠른 현대 인의 삶에서 아름다움의 추구는 기호를 넘어선 필수적인 요소가 되었고 일상생활에 쓰이는 물건에 대해 인간은 기능성과 함께 미적인 요소를 요구하고 그러한 것을 선택하게 되었다. 이런 끝없는 인간의 요구에 자연은 무한한 아름다움의 소재를 제공하고 있다. 자연 속에는 조형윈리가 존재하는 경우가 많고 모범적으로 변화될 수 있는 구조도 많다. 1)자연은 미지의 형태 속에 넘쳐흐르는 형의 세계라고 말할 수 있는 것이다. 그 중 다양한 조형요소를 가지고 있는 패각은 인간의 생 활과 예술세 계 에 밀접 한 연관성 을 가지고 있다 패각은 패류가 삶을 영위하기 위한 필연성 으로부터 유래된 것이 대부분이기 때문에 형태들은 감각적으로는 생동감이 있고, 기능적으로는 합리적이다. 형태적 우아함과 색깔의 매력은 눈을 즐겁게 하는 조형적 요소로서,새로운 미를 창조할 수 있는 좋은 대상이 된다. 이러한 패각을 주제로 이용하여 장식적 기능을 가진 촛대로 디자인하였다. 과거 어둠을 밝히는 요소로서, 인간다운 삶을 영위하는 환경 조성에 중 요한 빛이었던 촛불은 현재에 이르러 본질상 부차적 조명이 되었다. 주조명의 기능에서 벗어난 촛불은 현대인들에게 다양한 의미를 가지고 공간 분위기의 변화와 심리적 안정을 고취시킬 수 있게 되었다. 이러한 촛불의 역할 변화는 촛대의 조형적, 의미적 기능을 강조시킨 것이다. 촛대는 사용되고 있을 때뿐만 아니라 사용되지 않을 때에는 그 자체가 실내에서 장식적인 기능을 해야만 한다. 이러한 기능을 파악하기 위해 각각 세부연구가 필요하다. 촛대의 역사와 기능 그리고 구조에 대해 또 패각 형태에 대해 각각 연구하였고 패각과 촛대에 관한 다른 작품을 살펴보다. 작품의 디자인 과정에서는 먼저 패각의 외형 분류에 근거해 패각의 사실적, 복잡한 형태 구조를 단순화하였다. 그것을 촛대의 기능에 맞게 주관적 해석표현으로 변형하고 유기적인 형태의 자유로운 곡선을 결합하 여 생동감을 이끌어 내도록 연구하였다. 여기에 형태와 질감을 들어 내는 빛의 속성을 이해하고 빛과 그림자의 상호작용에 의해 입체적인 패각의 특성을 강조할 수 있도록 하여 디자인하였다. 제작 과정은 패각의 이미지를 표현하는,자유로운 곡선을 섬세하게 보여줄 수 있으며 다수의 촛대를 제작할 수 있는 주입성형기법을 사용하였다. 소지는 촛불의 반사율을 높여주기 위해 주요색을 백색으로 사용하고 패각이 갖는 신비한 색감과 바다의 다양한 색채를 연구자의 심상에서 유추해 안료를 이용하여 다양한 색채를 부분적으로 표현하였다. 소성은 최고온도 850℃로 6시간 동안 1차 소성한 후 광택을 내기위해 투명유로 시유하였다. 2차 소성은 1250℃를 최고온도로 10시간 동안 환윈염소성 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 자연의 소재 가운데 표현대상으로서의 패각은 무한한 변화의 요소와 가능성을 보여 준다는 것을 알 수 있었다 패각과 빛의 아름다움을 촛대의 기능성 에 결합시킴 으로서 기능성과 미의 조화가 정서적 안정감과 편안함을 줄 수 있으며 창조적 대상이 될 수 있음을 인식하게 되었다. 앞으로 본 연구를 바탕으로 패각을 이용한 표현방법의 연구를 다양한 도자 작품에도 응용해보고 촛대 디자인 역시 다른 장식적 요소를 결합해 봄으로서 장식적 조명으로서 기능을 가진 촛대디자인을 계속 연구해 보고자 한다.; Men are made to appreciate beauty and feel peace of mind at the sight of a beautiful thing in spite of themselves. Men have come to seek esthetic quality In addltion to practlcality In the things they use in their everyday lives Mother nature has bountiful ways and forms to satisfy mens unquenchable hunger for beauty Seashells are a tYplcal example of aterials with a slew of wonderful forms of natural beauty and thus have greatly influenced mens life and their world of arts. Men have wondered how seashells are endowed with such elegance in shapes and amazing colors and depended on them for inspirations on new designs. Thus, it was no coincldence for the writer of this artlcle to come up with an idea to do research on ornamental candlesticks on the theme of seashells. Nowadays, candles are used as a secondary means of lighting or chiefly for decorative purposes. Under the candlelight in a quiet dark space, one regains composure of mind and experiences a quite different sensatlon from In the sunlit space. A candlestick has functional and ornamental functions. In this study, light was shed on the history, function and forms of candlesticks used by humankind, especially those using seashell-based designs. Focus was made on outward appearance of shells used for candlestlcks. Attempts were also made to think of the ways to create a series of forms of curves based on the writers own subjective intuition, and efforts were made to breathe life into them. In designing actual pieces, attempts were made to emphaslze seashells natural curves reflected in the candlelight in full consideration of the characteristics of light as well as of the interaction between light and shadow. In the production process, the slip-casting technique was employed in such a way as will show seashells natural patterns and delicate curves and make it possible to produce the same item in large quantities. Materials of white color were chiefly used to enhance the reflectance ratio of candlelight in additlon pigments of various colors designed to add to the mysterious atmosphere that seashells have about them. The materials were first heated for 6 hours at the maximum temperature of 850C and then were soaked in transparent emulsion for the glazing effect. In the process of secondary heating, the materials were made to go through excess-acetylene flame for the duration of ten hours at the maximum temperature of 1,250℃. Through this study, the writer has come to clearly realize that seashells are amazlng wizards that make Infinite changes In forms, and that combining their natural beauty with the functionality of candlesticks can give a watcher composure of mind. The writer intends to make the results of this study applied to other pieces made of ceramic whiteware etc in the future in order to make more wonderful ornamental candlesticks.
