종교공간의 상징성과 교회디자인 연구

Abstract

It s a fact that in the modern world, functional, economical value of the architecture has been regarded important rather than it s meaning or characteristics. But the changes of the world view that has developed after the modernism are pointing out that harmonious spiritual value is more essential than material itself as a fundament of all thoughts. Symbolization is one method of expressing this spiritual world. By this man can grant meanings to certain things and by that meaning he can understand the world from other point of view. Therefore to modern mankind lacking in spiritual aspects, symbolization is a primary factor that can indicate a new direction for their thoughts and values. Symbolization does not have a meaning as a symbol itself but renders its meaning and value through certain objects, and by combining with form, color, light and material it becomes and important factor that decides the significance and impression of a space. Also, symbolization endows feeling into space so that the space can be regarded special. Therefore as a space, which can express the value of symbolization, which have a clear definition, functions and meanings of essence and mission, a church has been the subject of this research. And by introducing symbolic factor to the space of a church, it can offer mankind of this modern world a new mental peace, restoration of wholeness and realization of man himself. For a religious space, symbolization is an indispensable factor. By symbolization it can change the viewer s state of mind and the building as a church itself can bear its aesthetic characteristics. But it is also true that symbolism had faced downfall throughout the history and became the expedient of exposing the wealth or quantitative growht of a church. Therefore the aim of this research is to understand the distinctiveness of a space and emphasizing its aesthetic aspects by adapting it to a space through the proper application of symbolization, offering the modern mankind a mental stability. So focus of this theses has been based on the understanding of the meaning of symbolization after the new paradigm, comprehending the concept, quality and reason of symbolization, together with the positive analysis of the Korean church environment and the apprehension of changes in thinking and aspiration of mind of the Christians today. First, confirm the need of establishing the environmental design process approached from symbolization, based on the changes of the cognition system after the modernism and the prospect of the culture in the 21C. Second, understand the meaning and the characteristic of symbolization and analyze the relationship in the chages of form, space and component of a space to create a concept, which can be applied in the form determination process. Third, after application of different symbolic concepts, analyze the changes in the space and study the space of the church as the best space for the practice of symbolization. Also investigate the historical meanings and roles of Christian church and understand the effect that symbolization has on the scheme of a church space. Fourth, demonstrate the objective evaluation and adequacy of the research through design and each process. By applying the concept of symbolization appropriate in the each step of design process, develop a logical process of space determination.; 현대에 있어서 건축의 경향은 건축이 지닌 의미나 특성보다는 기능성이나 경제적인 가치를 주요하게 인식하는 것이 사실이다. 그러나 모더니즘 이후에 전개된 세계관의 변화는 현대인들에게 있어서 물질이 모든 사고의 근간이 아니라 그보다 더 중요한 것은 조화로운 정신의 가치라고 말하고 있다. 이러한 정신의 세계를 말하는 하나의 방법으로서 상징은 무언가에 새로운 가치와 의미를 부여하고 그 의미를 통해서 세계를 다른 관점으로 이해하는 것이다. 따라서 정신적인 면이 메말라 있다고 말하는 현대인에게 있어서 상징은 그들의 사고관과 가치관에 새로운 방향을 제시해 줄 수 있는 중요한 요인이다. 상징은 상징 그 자체만으로 의미를 지니는 것이 아니라 어떤 대상을 통해서 그것의 의미와 가치를 표현하며 형태 색 빛 재료 등과 결함하여 매우 포괄적인 개념으로 공간의 의미와 느낌을 결정하는 주용한 요인이 된다. 또한 상징은 공간에 느낌을 부여하여 그 공간이 특별해 보일 수 있도록 하는 것이다. 그러므로 상징의 가치를 가장 잘 표현할 수 있는 건출물로서 그 언어가 분명하고 본질과 사명 등의 기능과 의미를 함께 지닌 교회를 연구대상으로 정하ㅗㄱ 교회공간에 상징적 요소를 도입함으로써 현대인들에게 새로운 정신적인 휴식처와 전인적인 인간회복, 자아실현의 장을 제공하고자 한다. 종교공간에 있어서 상징은 필수적인 요소이며 상징성을 통해 그것을 바라보는 지각자의 심리에 변화를 일으킬 수 있다는 점과 교회 건축물 자체도 미적인 특수성을 그러나 이러한 상징성은 시대를 거듭해오면서 점차 퇴락해져갔고 오히려 그 교회가 지닌 부의 가치나 양적인 성장의 가치를 표현하는 수단이 된 것이 사실이다. 따라서 본 연구자는 상징의 올바른 사용을 통해서 현대를 살아가느 ㄴ현대인에게 정신적인 안정감과 함께 공간의 특수성을 인식하고 각 공간에 적용하여 공간이 지닌 미적 특수성을 부각시키고자 한다. 이를 ㅜ이해서 뉴 패러다임 이후의 상징의 의미를 이해하고 상징의 개념과 특성, 그리고 각 요인과 함께 우리나라 교회환경의 문제점을 실증적 타당성을 근거로 파악하고 현대를 살아가는 기독교인들의 사고적 변화와 정신적인 욕구를 파악하고자 한다. 첫째, 모더니즘 이후의 인식체계의 변환과 패러다임 전환에 따른 21세기 문화의 전망을 토대로 상징적 접근 방법에 의한 환경 디자인의 구축 방법론의 필요성을 확인한다. 둘째, 상징의 의미와 특성을 파악하고 상징을 통한 형태의 변화와 공간의 변화, 공간 구성요소 간의 관계를 분석하여 공간의 형태도출 단계에서 적용시킬 수 있는 개념을 창출한다. 셋째, 여러 가지 상징개념이 적용된 후 공간의 변화를 분석하고 상징이 적용될 수 있는 최적의 공간으로서 교회공간을 분석한다. 또한 기독교회의 시대적인 의미와 역할을 알아보고 상징이 교회공간 계획에 미치는 영향을 이해한다. 넷째, 디자인의 각 과정을 통해 연구된 내용의 객관적 평가 및 타당성을 입증한다. 각 디자인 단계에 맞는 상징의 개념을 적용시켜 공간도출 과정을 합리적으로 전개한다.
