한국어 학습자의 학습양식에 대한 연구 : 일본어권 학습자와 영어권 학습자를 중심으로

Abstract

최근 제2 언어교육 분야에서 대두되는 주요 흐름의 하나는 학습자 중심의 교육이념이다. 이것은 제 2언어로서의 한국어 교육분야에서도 반드시 실천되어야 하는 과제가 아닐 수 없다. 실제 교수 현장에서 이러한 목표를 달성하기 위하여 교사들은 학습자 개인에 대한 구체적인 이해를 가지고 있어야 하며, 그 중에서도 특히 학습자들 특유의 학습접근 태도 즉, 학습양식에 대한 적극적인 관심과 활용이 우선되어야 한다. 그러나 아직까지 한국어 교육 분야에서는 이에 대한 적극적인 연구와 실천이 이루어지지 않고 있다. 그러므로 본고에서는 실제 한국어 학습자들의 개인적 변인에 따른 학습양식의 차이를 알아보고, 제2 언어로서의 한국어 교육에서의 학습양식 연구에 대한 필요성을 강조하고자 한다. I장에서는 우선 학습양식 연구의 필요성 및 목적을 소개한 후에, 제2 언어로서의 한국어 교육에서의 학습양식에 대한 이론적 배경이 미비한 현실을 감안하여 외국어 학습과 관련된 학습양식에 대한 외국의 선행연구를 소개한다. II장에서는 학습양식의 개념 및 유형을 정리한 이후, 언어 학습양식에 영향을 주는 학습자의 문화적인 요소와 학습양식과의 관계를 살펴보았다. III장에서는 학습자의 모국어 및 기타 개인의 사회 문화적인 배경변인에 따른 지각적 학습양식의 차이가 있는지를 구체적으로 알아보기 위해 현재 한국어 교육기관에서 한국어를 배우는 일본어권 학습자와 영어권 학습자를 대상으로 지각적 학습양식에 대한 설문조사를 실시하여 통계 처리한 결과를 분석하였다. 그 결과, 언어문화권에 따른 학습양식의 비교에서 일본어권 학습자들은 다양한 지각적 학습양식에 강한 선호를 보인 반면, 영어권 학습자들은 어느 학습양식에서도 강한 선호를 보이지 않았으며 모든 학습양식에서 일본어권 학습자들보다 낮은 점수를 보임으로써 두 언어권 학습자들의 학습양식에는 큰 차이가 있었다. 또 전체 학습자들을 대상으로 연령, 학력, 성별, 한국어 학습기간, 전공계열에 따른 학습양식의 차이를 각각 살펴본 결과, 성별, 한국어 학습기간, 전공계열 등은 지각적 학습양식 선호에 부분적으로 영향을 주었음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 한국어교육상황에서 교사는 학습자에 대한 학습과 관련된 개인적 배경에 관심을 갖고, 학습자의 학습양식을 배려한 교재 및 교수법을 개발할 필요가 있으며, 학습자들 역시 자신들의 학습양식을 파악하고 그것을 개발, 확장시키는 노력을 통해 학습효과를 높여야 한다는 결론을 제시하였다. ; Recently, one of the new trends that is rising in Second language education field is learner-centered education philosophy. This is a task must be accomplished in Korean education as a second language. To reach this goal in common teaching practice, teachers need to have a concrete understanding of learners and, most importantly, focus on and utilize their own leaning styles . However, the study on learning styles has not been made in Korean education field. Hence, in this study, we will see Korean learners actual difference in learning styles due to individual variation and emphasize the need of research in learning styles for Korean education as a second-language. In Chapter I, there will be an introduction of the necessity and purpose of the study on learning styles. Because of today s scarcity of theories in learning styles in Korean education as a second-language, foreign studies on learning styles of foreign language education are introduced. In Chapter II, definition and types of learning styles are summarized followed by studies on the relationship between learners cultural factors, which effect his or her language learning styles and and learning styles. In Chapter III, to understand in more details, whether there is differences in perceptual learning styles due to learners first language or other social and cultural backgrounds, a statistical analysis was conducted through a survey of perceptual learning styles on current learners of Korean language who are from Japanese and English speaking areas. As a result, comparing the learning styles of different language-culture zones, there was significant difference in language learning styles between learners from Japanese and English speaking areas. Learners from Japanese speaking areas preferred multiple perceptual learning styles, whereas learners from English speaking areas did not show any strong preferences for any of the learning styles and scored less than learners from Japanese speaking areas in all the learning styles. In addition, a research on learning styles, depending on learners age, education level, gender, Korean study period, and major, showed that gender, Korean study period, and major have partially affected learners preference of perceptual learning styles. Through these results a conclusion was made that under the current Korean education environment, teachers should consider learners study related individual backgrounds and develop study materials as well as teaching methods according to learners learning styles. Learners should understand his or her learning styles and try to develop and expand them. Learning effect should be elevated through these efforts.
