학생과학탐구 올림픽대회의 평가를 통한 개선 방향의 모색

Abstract

현재의 과학교육에서 학생의 탐구능력이 강조되고 있으나 실제로 학교교육만으로 학생들의 탐구능력을 고양시키는 것에는 한계가 있다. 학생과학탐구올림픽대회는 학생들의 과학에 대한 관심과 흥미를 가지게 하고 과학을 탐구하는 능력을 길러 과학을 생활화하고 과학에 대한 관심을 고양하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 이 대회의 단위대회인 자연환경탐구대회와 과학탐구실험대회는 학생들의 탐구능력 고양에 목적을 둔 대회이다. 따라서 본 연구는 자연환경탐구대회와 과학탐구실험대회의 인지도를 알아보고 대회 프로그램의 평가를 통해 대회의 개선방안을 모색하는데 그 목적을 두고 있으며 이를 위해 두 대회에 참가한 교사와 학생을 대상으로 설문을 실시하였고 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 대회 참가 동기에 있어서 두 대회 모두 교사의 경우 자발적으로 참가한 비율이 높은데 비해 학생의 경우 타의에 의해 참가한 비율이 높았으며 학생들은 대회의 존재를 모르고 있는 경우가 많았으며 교사들은 현재의 홍보방법에 대해 만족하지 않고 있었다. 2. 탐구문제의 수준은 학생들이 해결하기에 적절한 수준이나 현재의 학교수업만으로는 해결하기 어렵다고 생각하고 있었다. 1문제를 출제하는 것보다는 여러 문제를 출제해 학생이 선택해서 해결하는 방법을 선호했다. 3. 대회에 참가한 학생들은 과학에 대해 관심을 가지게 되고, 호기심이 생겼으며, 보고서 작성능력과 실험능력이 향상되었다고 응답하여 프로그램의 교육적 효과는 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 조사 결과를 토대로 본 연구에서는 대회의 개선을 위해 다음과 같이 제언하고자 한다. 1. 대회의 인지도를 높이기 위해 대중매체, 인터넷을 통한 홍보가 필요하며, 특히 학생들을 위해 어린이 신문이나 과학잡지 등에 광고를 하도록 한다. 2. 대회 준비를 위한 자료가 부족하므로 대회 안내자료와 대회수상작을 소개하는 책자를 만들거나 에듀넷 같은 인터넷 사이트에 자료를 올리는 등의 배려가 필요하다. 3. 학생의 수준에 맞는 문제를 출제하고 여러 문제를 출제해 학생들의 문제 선택의 폭을 넓혀주어야 한다. 4. 지방의 참가자들을 위한 재정적인 지원이 필요하고 교사들의 관심을 높이기 위해 수상 결과에 따라 교사들에게 연구점수를 부여하는 등의 배려가 필요하다. 5. 프로그램의 교육적 효과가 높으므로 학교 수업과 관련된 프로그램을 개발하여 과학교육에 도움이 되도록 한다. ; We emphasize students inquiry abilities in current science education, but it has the limitation of developing students inquiry abilities in current school education. Science Inquiry Olympic (SIO) offers students concern and interest about science. In addition, the ultimate object in SIO is to develop students interest about science and to live with it by cultivating inquiry ability. Subordinate ones of the SIO, Natural Environment Inquiry Tournament (NEIT) and Science Inquiry Experiment Tournament (SIET), are regarded as helpful in developing students inquiry ability. Therefore this study has objects as follows : a recognition extent of SIET and NEIT and searching an improvement measure by evaluating programs in SIET and NEIT. For the sake of it, a questionnaire was put in practice and their results are as follows: 1. Students and teachers had different participation motives in the Olympic. Teachers showed a high level of voluntary participation, but students had a negative motive at a high rate. Besides most students didn t know the tournament itself and teachers were not satisfied with it s publicity work. 2. Inquiry subject was a proper level for students, but it was difficult to solve the question by using only school work. Students prefer to solve a question of several questions rather than solve one question. 3. Participants are interested in science, and curious students report making ability and experiment ability were improved. Therefore students who took part in tournaments found an educational effects at a high rate. Based on these results, the main study suggests improvement measures for the better tournaments as follows: 1. It is necessary to be well aware of tournament by publicity work using media and internet. Especially, it needs to put an advertisement in student s newspaper or a science magazine for students. 2. Due to lack of prepared materials for tournaments, it is necessary to make information materials and books to introduce a prize winner or to enter information in internet sites such as Edunet. 3. Inquiry subject is presented to be fit for students level. Several questions are presented. Extent of students selecting question is enlarged. 4. Local participators need financial support. It is necessary to be well aware of teachers interest by research point endowing a teacher of superior ability. 5. Because educational effect of tournament program is high, program is developed about school lesson.
