P. Verlaine의 시에 의한 G. Faure와 C. A. Debussy의 가곡연구 : Clair de lune, En Sourdine, Green을 중심으로

Abstract

19세기 프랑스 상징주의 시인인 Paul Verlaine(1844～1896)은 산문적 언어의 탈피는 물론 전통적 시의 형태로부터의 해방을 위해 시어의 음악성을 특히 강조한 시인이다. 그의 시에는 의미와 음악이라는 두 요소가 밀접하게 연관되어 있다. 이러한 Verlaine의 시에 여러 작곡가들이 곡을 붙였지만, 이 논문에서는 19세기 후반의 프랑스 작곡가 중 선구적 역할을 하였고 20세기의 많은 작곡가들에게 영향을 준 Gabriel Faure(1845～1924)와 Claude Achille Debussy(1862～1918)가 Verlaine의 시에 곡을 붙인 작품을 연구하고자 한다. 따라서 본 논문은 Faure와 Debussy의 가곡 중 ‘Clair de lune(달빛)’, ‘En Sourdine(살며시)’, ‘Green(연두빛)’의 세 곡을 선택하여 분석하였으며, 그에 따른 비교는 다음과 같다. Faure의 가곡은 자유로운 음의 취급과 섬세한 시적 감상, 고상한 아름다움을 간직한 음악적 진행을 보여주고, 아름답고 서정적인 내용으로 되어 있다. Dubessy의 가곡은 낭만주의 작곡가들의 특색 위에서 자신만의 독특한 색채적 양식을 구축하였고, 새로운 음계와 화성, 시와 선율의 조화 등에서 독특한 어법을 구사함으로서 현대음악에 이르는 교량적 역할을 하였다. 본 논문에서는 두 작곡자가 Verlaine에 의해 곡을 썼다는 출발점은 같지만 음악적 특징, 즉 형식, 조성, 주요리듬형, 가사의 의미에 따른 선율의 전개기법, 곡의 배경 등에서 차이점을 보이고 있다. 또한 시의 해석에서도 Faure는 시 전체의 내용을 위한 아름다운 melody를 창조한 반면 Debussy는 시어에 의미를 두고 각 단어의 뉘앙스 표현에 주력하여 작곡하였다. ; French symbolical poet, P. Verlaine(1845∼1924) in the 19th centry emphasized on the musical quality of poetical words not only for breaking from prosaic words but also for release from conventional poetry style. His poems revealed the colse relation between the two emements of meaning and music. So many composers in theose days made many songs with Verlaine s poems. This thesis was intended to study the works setted the songs to music with Verlaine s poem s by Gabriel Faure(1845∼1924)and Calude Achille Debussy (1862∼1918) that had an important effect on many composers in the late 19th century and played the role of taking the lead. Consequently, this study will make an analysis of the three songs among Faure s and Debussey s songs, Clair de lune , En Sourdine Green . The comparatives are as follows. Faure songs are made by using the melodies freely and reveal the musical progress including delicate poetical feeling and refined beauty. Debussy made his songs include own peculiar style based on the characteristics of romantic composers. His songs played the role of the bridge leading to the modern music by free using of peculiar style in the aspects of mew musical scale, harmony, and the harmony of poems and melodies. In this thesis, the two composes had something in common with the starting point that they made their songs by using Verlaine s poems. But there is a difference between the two in the aspects of musical feautre, that is form composition main rythmical pattern, the backgrounds of songs and the developing technique of melody following the meaning in the words of songs. In the interpretation of poems. Faure created beautiful melody for the whole content of a poem. But Debussy composed emphasizing on the expression of nuance in each words based on the meaning of poems.
