외국인을 위한 한국소설교육 방안

Abstract

한 나라의 언어를 학습하고 이해한다는 것은 그 나라의 글을 읽고, 쓰고, 말할 수 있는 기본적인 언어기능을 수행할 수 있다는 것 이상을 의미한다. 언어는 그 언어가 사용되는 사회 문화와 불가분의 관계에 있다. 대상 언어의 올바른 이해를 위해서는 반드시 그 사회의 문화적인 상황을 알아야만 한다. ‘언어’는 그 나라 文化를 총체적으로, 그리고 직접적으로 보여주는 것이므로 외국인에게 한국어를 교육하고자 하는 데 있어서도 그 속에 담긴 문화적 요소를 소홀히 할 수 없다. 본 논문에서는 한국어를 배우고자 하는 외국인 학습자에게 언어를 가르치는 데 있어 그 바탕이 되어야 할 문화의 중요성을 전제로 하고, 그 구체적 접근으로 ‘文學敎育’ 중 ‘韓國現代小說敎育’에 대한 방안을 모색해 보고자 한다. 한국어를 외국인 대상으로 가르쳐온 역사는 그리 오래되지 않았다. 그만큼 한국어 교육은 아직 많은 부분에 있어서 다양하고 체계적인 연구가 필요한 것이 사실이다. 최근에 와서는 과거의 문법적인 교습법을 지양하고, 보다 효과적인 학습법을 찾고자 하는 노력을 많이 볼 수 있으며, 각 기관에서도 한국어를 교수하는 데 있어 단순한 언어학습 차원에 머무르지 않고 한국의 文化를 교수해야 한다는 중요성을 인식하고 그 방법론을 찾아가고 있다. 그러나 文化교육의 중요성에 대한 인식이 확장되고 그 방법과 이론에 대해 조금씩 연구가 진행되는 상황 속에서도, 본 논문에서 다루고자 하는 ‘文學敎育’은 아직 구체적으로 연구가 되어 있지 않은 부분이다. 각 대학의 언어기관마다 문학자료를 이용한 수업이 고급단계에서는 이루어지고 있으나 본격적인 문학수업이라고는 할 수 없으며, 그 선별방법이나 작품선택에 있어서도 아직 특별한 체계가 이루어져 있지 않다. 이러한 상황 속에서 본 논문은 문학교육의 당위성을 바탕으로 할 때 처음 제기되는 것이자 현장교사들을 난감하게 하는 질문, ‘과연 어떤 작품을 가르쳐야 할 것인가’하는 작품 선택의 문제를 소설의 영역에 한정시켜서 연구하고자 한다. 한국인에게 가르칠 문학 작품과 분명 차별을 가져야 할 작품들, 그러한 작품들을 선별하는 적절하고 체계적인 기준을 제시해 보고자 하는 것이 본 논문의 궁극적인 목적이다. 이 작업을 위해 외국어 학습 교실에서 문학작품 선택에 대해 말한 학자들의 이론가 현장 교사들의 의견, 그리고 연구자의 생각을 종합해서 8 가지 기준을 세워 보았다. 그 기준의 대상은 문학의 영역 중 韓國現代小說로 한정한다. 문학작품 선별 기준을 정한 후에는 소설 수업 진행방식에 대해 논한 뒤, 위의 기준에 맞는 한 작품을 대상으로 수업진행 방식의 모형을 제시해 보고자 한다. 문학교육은 文學이라는 예술의 영역을 敎育의 과정 속으로 이끌어야 한다. 따라서 문학작품을 선별한 후 교제에 담는 데 있어서나 수업을 진행하는 방식에 있어서 文學이 갖는 이 ‘열림’의 특성을 잊어서는 안될 것이다. 한국어 교육을 文化교육의 차원으로 올리고 정착시키기 위한 다양한 연구들중 문학교육을 위한 연구는 작품선택, 단계별 적용, 그리고 수업 방법 등에 대한 것들을 하나하나 찾아가고 풀어야 할 과제를 안고 있다. 그리고 본 논문에서 살펴 볼 문학작품 선정에 대한 작업도 ‘小說’이라는 영역을 넘어서 다른 문학 장르에까지 확대되어야 하며, 여기에서 제시하게 될 기준들에 대한 검토와 검증을 바탕으로 더 실질적인 변별기준을 모색하는 작업들이 계속적으로 진행되어야 할 것이다. ; To learn and understand a foreign language requires more than acquiring basic language skills such as reading, listening, writing and speaking. Language is deeply embedded within society and culture. Therefore to truly understand a foreign language one must understand the culture in which the language is situated. Also, since language is a reflection of the culture form, which it springs, one cannot ignore the teaching of culture when teaching the language. Thus this thesis explores whether there is a place for teaching literature in the teaching of Korean language considering the close association between language and culture. The history of teaching Korean to non-native speakers is not long and the history of teaching Korean literature is nearly non-existent. Therefore more in-depth study and research is required. While it is true that language institutes in universities in corporate literary works in their upper level Korean classes, there are as yet no standard criteria for the selection of appropriate texts. Thus, this thesis focuses on which literary works should be taught. I hope to accomplish this by presenting criteria by which appropriate works can be selected. First, I reviewed existing theories by linguistic scholars. Secondly, I gathered the opinion of teachers who are currently teaching Korean in universities. Finally, from the theories and the data I gathered, I present eight criteria by which teachers can select literary works. After the explanation of the eight criteria, I will present a model of how to teach a literary work in the classroom. The teaching of literature needs to be able to communicate that literature is art. Therefore, the teacher must always consider this essence of literature when selecting and teaching works. This thesis calls for further study in the selection in literary works, especially in matching the work with the level of learning, and the appropriate method for teaching these works. Also, since this thesis has researched only the teaching of novels, the teaching of other literary forms, such as poetry, and essays will require further study. Finally, the proposed criteria and teaching methods must be tested in the classroom, and continually researched and adjusted.
