F. Liszt의 Ballade in b minor 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 필자의 석사과정 이수를 위한 졸업연주회 곡목 중의 하나인 F. Liszt의 Ballade in b minor에 대한 연구이다. 이 곡은 그의 예술 생애 중 창작활동이 가장 왕성했던 바이마르시절(1847-1861)에 해당하는 1853년에 sonata in b minor와 같이 작곡되었다. 스무 살의 젊은 나이에 Liszt와 Chopin은 그들의 우정을 쌓아나가고 음악적인 영향을 주고 받게 되었다. 특히 Liszt는 Chopin의 시적이고 우아한 감성을 흠모하였고 반면 Chopin은 Liszt의 기교적인 연주 능력에 많은 동경심을 가졌다. 1849년 Chopin의 죽음 이후, Liszt는 Chopin에 대한 존경의 의미로써, Chopin에 관한 책을 직접 저술하였다. 또, Liszt는 Chopin의 타이틀과 아이디어로부터 영향받은 ballade, polonaise, mazurka, berceuse 등과 같은 여러 작품의 피아노 곡들을 작곡하였다. Ballade는 ‘춤추다(ballare)’라는 어원에서 나온 것으로 12세기 후반의 최초의 Ballade는 2부분 형식의 성악곡이었으나, 14세기 후반에 3부분 형식으로 발전되었고, 이것은 19세기의 3부분 형식의 기악 Ballade의 모체가 되었다. Liszt의 Ballade in b minor는 Liszt가 Chopin의 영향을 받아 작곡한 곡 중 가장 규모가 큰 곡이다. 이 곡은 Chopin ballade가 가지는 소나타 형식을 이어받아 제시부, 발전부, 재현부의 구분이 분명하나, 그 길이에 있어서는 불균형을 이루는 낭만적인 자유로움을 보이고 있다. 또 Chopin ballade와 같이 6박자의 겹박자로 작곡되었으며, ballade의 특징인 대비되는 두 개의 주제는 Liszt적인 화려한 제1주제와 Chopin적인 우아한 제2주제가 대조와 조화를 이루고 있다. 특히 제2주제는 Chopin의 Nocturne, Waltz 등의 선율로부터 영향을 받았고, 이러한 주제들은 Liszt의 주제변형기법을 통해서 다양하게 발전, 확대되었다. Chopin ballade가 갖는 전설적 분위기와 같이 이 곡 또한 신화속 인물의 비극적 사랑 이야기를 Liszt다운 필체로 써 내려간 곡이다. F. Liszt의 ballade 연구 결과 이 곡은 Chopin의 장르와 형식의 영향을 받아서 작곡되었으며, 화려한 기교적 passage와 느리고 서정적인 부분이 양분되어 Liszt가 갖는 양면성을 잘 혼합시킨 작품이라고 할 수 있다. ; This thesis is to research Ballade in b minor of F. Liszt, one of the repertoire played by the author in the graduate recital for the degree of master in Music. It was composed in 1853 in the immediate aftermath of the composer s towering one-movement Sonata in the same key during the Weimar period(1847-1861). In his early days, Liszt had an intimate friendship with Chopin and they were musically influenced by each other. Especially, Enchanted by Chopin s poetic sensibility works with graceful melodies, Liszt came to have respect on Chopin beyond his personal friendship with him and Chopin looked up Liszt s manner of technical play. On 1849, as soon as Chopin died, Liszt wrote 「Frederic Chopin」to show him a respect and to treasure his friendship with Chopin. He also composed different genres of piano pieces, such as ballade, polonaise, mazurka, and berceuse, in which Chopin s own individuality is contained. Ballade originated from the word ballare , which means to dance . The first ballade in the late 12th century was two-part form(bar form) for vocal music. It had developed into three-part form in the late 14th century, becoming the original work of three-part form for instrumental ballades. Ballade in b minor of F. Liszt is the most gigantic one among the works that were composed by him under the influence of Chopin. It has an explicit three divisions in the form of sonata -- exposition, development, and recapitulation -- which was shown in ballade of Chopin. However, in its length it exhibits romantic freedom that forms unbalance. It also consists of six compound meter as of Chopin. Two comparative themes which is the characteristic of ballade, splendid first Lisztian theme and Chopinesque elegant second theme are contrasted and harmonized with each other. Especially, second theme was influence by the melodies of Nocturne and Waltz of Chopin, and these themes were variously developed and extended through the technique of thematic transformation. As Chopin s ballades had mythical aspects, in this work Liszt also presented tragic love story of legend. As a result of F. Liszt s ballade study, it is shown that this work was composed influenced by the genre and style of Chopin and that it is a work in which splendid technical passage and slow lyrical parts have been well divided and mixed with the dualism of Liszt.
