한국 민화의 책거리 그림을 응용한 의상디자인연구

Abstract

문화와 사회는 현재 존재하는 것이지만 과거로부터 유래된다. 사회와 문화의 부산물인 패션 또한 과거에 시작되었다. 이렇게 전통을 담고 발전을 거듭해온 패션 상품의 생산, 분배, 소비의 유형은 한 나라의 경제 발전의 큰 부분을 차지한다. 패션은 문화를 직접적으로 표현하는 상징적인 양식으로 문화가 다양한 만큼 그 시대의 사상과 정신, 미의식을 반영하면서 다양하게 나타난다. 새로운 세기의 시작을 앞두고 있는 전환기에서, 자연주의나 동양의 신비감이 패션에 새로이 부각되고 있는 지금 여러 분야에서 그 어느 때보다 우리의 전통문화에 대한 관심이 높아지고 전통을 계승, 발전시키고자 하는 움직임이 활발해지고 있다. 이러한 움직임들이 단순한 전통미의 재현이 아니라 현대적인 디자인의 창조로 이어질 때 우리의 패션 산업이 더 크게 발전할 수 있을 것이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 한국 서민문화의 정서가 그대로 반영된 민화 중에서 책거리 그림에 표현된 한국의 전통미를 현대적 감각으로 재현하여 패션 디자인에 응용해봄으로써 한국의 전통미가 지닌, 차별화 된 아름다움을 제시하고 이를 통한 한국 패션의 국제화 가능성을 가늠해보고자 한다. 본 연구의 내용 및 방법으로 문헌조사를 통해 민화의 정의와 개념, 기원 및 사상적 배경을 고찰해보고 그 유형을 여러 학자들의 주장을 근거로 분류하였다. 특히 여러 가지 민화의 유형 중 책거리 그림이 선이나 구도, 색채 면에서 가장 현대적인 느낌을 지니고 있다고 보고 책거리 그림의 조형적 특징에 대해서 선행연구와 각종 문헌자료를 통해 고찰하였다. 또한 현대 회화의 한 주류인 큐비즘(Cubism)과 책거리 그림의 조형요소를 비교 분석함으로써 책거리 그림이 지닌 현대성의 근거를 밝히고자 하였으며, 한국 전통미가 표현된 현대 패션 디자인을 1990년대 중, 후반의 S·F·A·A , 뉴웨이브 인 서울, 파리 컬렉션과 예술 의상전, 비엔날레에 출품된 작품들을 중심으로 분석하였다. 이렇게 연구 분석한 것을 토대로 민화의 책거리 그림의 조형적인 특징을 응용한 총 8점의 작품을 제작하였는데 작품은 전체적으로 책거리 그림의 특징인 시점이 다른 선과 과감한 면 분할을 응용하여 디자인하였다. 또한 책거리 그림의 문양이나 면 분할을 강조하기 위해 패딩(Padding)과 퀼팅(Quilting)기법을 응용하였으며 소재는 실크와 수직 실크를 사용하여 옛 그림에서 느껴지는 정취를 좀더 고급스럽고 우아하게 표현하려 하였다. 색채는 책거리그림이 주로 원색의 강렬한 색 대비를 보이고 있으나 낡고 오래된 그림에서 느낄 수 있는 색감을 표현하기 위해 명도를 낮춘 레드 톤과 그레이 톤에 카키, 올리브 그린 같은 색채를 사용하였다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한국 민화에는 한국인 고유의 미의 정신, 전통, 조형적 질서가 담겨져 있으며, 민화는 지나간 전통으로 남아있는 과거의 유물이 아니라 새로운 아이디어와 디자인의 모티브를 제공해주는 귀중한 자료로 평가되어야 함을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 책거리 그림의 조형적 분석을 통하여 책거리 그림이 지닌 현대적인 조형미를 확인할 수 있었다. 셋째, 책거리 그림의 복잡하고 불규칙한 선의 구도와 면 분할은 한국적이면서 동시에 현대적 감각으로 재창조될 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 넷째, 실용적인 패딩과 퀼팅 기법을 실크 소재에 사용함으로써 우아하면서도 현대적인 실루엣을 표현할 수 있었다. 이상의 결과를 통해서 현대 의상디자인에 우리의 전통을 올바르게 응용하고 표현하기 위해서는 먼저, 우리의 역사와 사상, 예술, 문화, 종교 등의 전반적인 이해가 선행되어야 하며, 이것을 바탕으로 하여 우리민족 고유의 전통을 현대적으로 활용하는 것은 차별화 된 독창적이고 창조적인 경쟁력의 가능성을 가지는 것이므로 현재의 우리 시대상과 미의식에 적합한, 그리고 세계 속에서 공감대를 형성할 수 있도록 전통의 재창조를 고려하여 이루어져야 함을 알 수 있었다. ; Culture and society exist but they are come from past. The fashion of the by-product of culture and society is come from past, too. The consumption of a fashion merchandise occupies a great of part of a country s economic progress. Fashion is a symbolical form expressing culture directly. Thus fashion appears as various as culture do as it reflects thought, spirit, and aesthetic consciousness of the times. Orientalism is embossed as a new fashion theme now with arrival of a new culture, so in many parts the concern about our traditional culture is high and movement intending to succeed to and develop our tradition is active. When these movements are not a simple reappearance of traditional beauty but creation of modern design, our fashion industry will develop move. Thus by reappearing the traditional beauty of korea expressed in books and Scholar s Utensils among Min Hwa reflected emotion of common people s culture of korea as it is with modern sense, this study intends to present distinct beauty that the traditional beauty of korea possesses and watch the possibility internationalizing fashion of korea. Method of study to this purpose is considering a definition, a concept, origin and thinking backing and classifying the type by means of many scholars assertion. Especially as it is seen that books and Scholar s Utensils among the types of a variety of Min Hwa possesses the most modern feeling is the aspect of lines, composition and colors, the formative characteristic of books and Scholar s Utensils is studied first of all and is considered through all kinds of literature data. And by comparing and analyzing the formative element of cubism of the main current in modern painting and books and Scholar s Utensils, this study intends to clarify the base of modernism of books and Scholar s Utensils. And modern fashion design expressed the traditional beauty of korea is analyzed centering around arts exhibited in S·F·A·A, New wave in Seoul Collection of the middle and late of 1990 s, Paris Collection and Fashion Art Exhibition and Kwangju Biennale. Total 8 works applied the formative characteristic of books and Scholar s Utensils in Min Hwa based on things analysed like this are produced. Works are designed by the characteristic of books and Scholar s Utensils of the lines of a different point of view and bold sides division. And to emphasize shapes and sides division of books and Scholar s Utensils, Padding and Quilting techniques are appled. Silk and Satin Silk are used materials. So the sentiment felt in the old pictures is intended to express more high and elegantly. Colors are used a red tone bringing down light, gray in khaki and Olive green to express colors felt in old pictures, though books and Scholar s Utensil s is mainly seen the intense color comparison of a primary Results through this study is that. The first, Korean Min-Hwa has the unique spirits of beauty, tradition and formative order. Thus Min-Hwa must be estimated as not a relic of the past remaining the passing tradition, But the precious materials offering a new idea and the motive of design. The second, through comparing books and Scholar s Utensils and Cubism paintings the modern plastic arts of books and Scholar s Utensils could be confirmed. The third, books and Scholar s Utensils that the composition of lines is complicated and irregular and sides is divided is like korea and it can be recreated in modern sense at the same time. The forth, by using practical Padding and Quilting in silk materials, a elegant and sportive silhouette can be expressed. Through these results, to apply and express our tradition rightly, the over-all comprehension on our history, thought, arts, civilization and religion is preceded first above all. Applying our unique tradition modernly based on this is like bearing the possibility of the different and creative competitive power. Therefore it must be suitable our present times and be achieved regard of recreation of tradition in order to be able to for sympathy in the world.
