도시환경에 있어서 상징성 표현을 위한 환경디자인 모형사례 연구 : 여행정보센터의 상징성 표현을 위한 환경디자인을 중심으로

Abstract

21세기를 앞두고, 기계론적 사고에 의한 근대운동의 한계를 극복하기 위한 새로운 모더니티운동은 인간과 환경 중심의 개념을 추구하고 있다. 새로운 세계관은 물적 가치 보다 정신적 가치를 중요하게 여기고 있으며 이러한 경향은 환경에 있어서도 정신적인 가치를 새롭게 인식시켜주고 있다. 오늘날의 환경디자인은 공간의 세분화, 전문화에 따른 질적 향상으로 고유한 상징성을 요구하는 경우가 빈번해지고 있다. 이것은 공간에 있어서 기능이나 구조못지않게 상징성의 가치가 중요하게 부각되고 있다는 것을 시사해 준다. 그러나 환경디자인에 있어서 상징성 표현의 문제는 기능적인 건축적 조건이나 합리적인 상업적 요구사항 등에 비하여 그 중요성에 대한 언급이 미약하며, 이에 대한 관심도 추상적인 것으로 간주되어 적극적인 연구가 이루어지지 못했다. 이에 본 연구자는 환경디자인을 구성하는 물(物)적인 요소에 정신적 의미의 표현과 전달을 위한 개념적 요소로서 상징성 표현의 기반을 체계적으로 조직한다면 환경과의 궁극적인 의미작용을 통해 삶의 질적 향상을 기할 수 있다는 적극적인 가설을 전제로하여 다음과 같은 과정을 중심으로 연구를 진행한다. · 연구 주제인식의 배경으로서 한국현대건축의 가치와 표현특성에 대해 알아 보고, 새로운 세계관과 동양사상에 의해 대두되고 있는 환경에 있어서의 정신적 가치에 대해 알아본다. · 구축환경을 상징체계로 파악하기 위한 이론적 근거로서 상징의 개념과 특징 그리고 인간-환경 관계에서의 상징의 개념을 이해하고, 공간의 상징성 표현을 위한 다학제적 접근방법으로, 기호학적 관점에서의 상징, 원형적 상징, 사회적 상징을 연구하여 문제해결을 위한 디자인 방법론을 모색한다. · 연구된 방법론에 의거하여 상징성을 대상공간에 적용하기 위한 개념언어와 형태언어를 도출하고 프로그래밍 및 디자이닝의 과정을 거쳐 기존의 건축적인 구조체계와 비가시적인 기능체계를 상쇄시키는 미적차원의 가치를 공간 구성에 반영시킨다. · 최종적으로 제시된 모형사례에 대하여 공간기능적 측면, 연구의 주제에 대한 적합성에 대한 측면, 환경미학적 측면에서 평가한다. 이와같은 상징성 표현 과정을 통한 체계적인 디자인 접근방법에 의한 연구의 결론은 다음과 같이 요약될 수 있다. · 인간은 기호화된 환경적 정보를 기호로 풀어서 자신의 선험적(先驗的) 도식에 의거하여 환경적 의미를 해독하고 이를 기초로 행동하는 상징적 동물임을 알았다. · 상징성에 대한 적극적인 탐구와 접근을 통해 환경디자인에 있어서의 독창성과 다양성의 문제를 해결할 수 있음을 알았다. · 한국 현대건축의 표피적인 서구건축사조의 모방에서 오는 인간과 구축환경과의 의미작용 단절의 해결방안으로 상징체계에 의한 정신적 가치가 커뮤니케이션의 매체로써 작용하여 상실했던 건축의 의미와 인간의 실존성을 회복시킬 수 있는 메타언어(Meta-Language)가 될 수 있음을 알았다. 본 연구는 환경디자인의 정신적 가치로서의 상징성에 대한 관심이 미래 한국 현대건축의 긍정적인 방향성 제시에 중요한 의미를 지니며, 나아가서 도시환경의 예술화라는 미학적 문제의 해결방안으로서도 가치를 지니고 있다는 논지를 사례연구를 통해 입증함으로서 본 연구의 의의를 찾고자 한다. ; With the 21st century near at hand, the new modernity movement getting over the limitations of modern movement depending on mechanistic thought is seeking after the concept for the human and environment. The new paradigm is trending toward de-materialization, placing importance on spiritual value rather than material. This trend gives a new recognition to the spiritual value that is expressed in environment. Nowadays the environmental design more frequently requires a creative symbolism owing to the qualitative development by the subdivision and the specialization of space. This trend suggest that the value of symbolism is importantly considered as much as function and structure in space. In the field of environmental design, however, the matter of symbolic expression is relatively less mentioned compared with those of functional architecture condition or rational commercial needs and it has not been studied earnestly because it was perceived abstractly. Therefore this study is based on assertive assumption, if the conceptual element for the expression and delivery of mental value make systematically the foundation of symbolic expression on the physical element which constitute environmental design, is that the quality of human life improve through significant interaction positively with environment. A study undergoes following processes. . To look into the value and expression s quality of korea modern architecture for the background of a study subject and examine the spiritual value as to environment being on the rise by new world and a oriental thought. . To understand the concept of symbolic expression of itself and symbolic expression between man and environment and study the interdisciplinary approach for providing the meaning of spacial symbolism - semiotical symbol, archetypical symbol and social symbol- to establish the criteria for the solution to the problem raised in the research. . To propose the conceptual language and formative language so as to apply symbolism to the target space in accordance with the researched methodologies and organize space through the phase of programming and designing. . To assess the final model in aspects of aesthetics, subjectivity and functionalities. The conclusion of a study through the above processes is summarized as follows : . The result of a study shows that human beings are symbolic animal which interpret the information of the surrounding environment comprised in many signs and symbols and behave according to the interpretation of their empirical signs and symbols. . Through the positive exploration and approach to the symbolism, the matters of originality and variety as to the environmental design can be solved. . In korea modern architecture the imitation of western architecture s trend brought about the discontinuation of symbolic expression between man and built environment. So we examined that the spiritual value by symbolic system could make the recovery of lost architectural significance and human existence as Meta-Language. This study has a significance in the view of that a concern about the spiritual value of environmental design shows not only affirmative direction in korea modern architecture but the solution of aesthetic problem in urban environment.
