Modest Mussorgsky의 'The Nursery'에 관한 연구 분석

Abstract

Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky(1839-1881)는 19세기 후반에 러시아에서 활동한 작곡가로 Mily Balakirev(1837-1910)를 위시한 러시아 5인조의 일원으로서 러시아 민족주의 음악을 대표하는 주요 작곡가의 한 사람이었다. 그는 음악에서 민족적인 주제를 선택하거나, 민요의 선율을 악곡에 인용하는 등 러시아 민속어법을 광범위하게 사용함으로써 러시아적인 독특한 색채를 살릴 수 있었다. 또한 당시 낭만주의에 대항해 생겨난 사실주의를 음악안으로 끌어들여서, 삶과 밀착된 예술을 표현하고자 하였다. 그의 주요 작품영역은 오페라와 가곡이라고 볼 수 있다. 그는 연가곡을 포함해서 71곡의 가곡을 썼으며, 대표적 오페라 「Boris Godunov」를 비롯한 10곡의 오페라와 9곡의 합창곡을 작곡했다. 이것은 7곡의 관현악 작품, 4곡의 피아노 작품과 비교해 볼 때 성악 작품이 절대다수를 차지한다고 할 수 있다. 그것은 그의 사실주의 예술관이 성악작품 안에서 가장 효과적으로 표현될 수 있기 때문이다. 본 논문의 연구대상인 「The Nursery」는 Mussorgsky자신이 가사를 쓴 7개의 연가곡 「With Nurse」(1868), 「In the Corner」(1870), 「The Beetle」(1870), 「With the Doll」(1870), 「Evening Prayer」(1870), 「The Naughty Puss」(1872), 「On the Hobby-Horse」(1872)로 구성되어 있다. 항상 어린이를 사랑한 Mussorgsky는 영감에 의한 비정통적인 음악을 통해 어린아이의 정서를, 짧지만 지극히 사랑스런 시정 속에 담아내었다. 여기에서는 우선 Modest Mussorgsky의 생애에 대해 고찰해 본 후에, 그의 음악의 일반적 특징과 가곡작품에 대해 살펴보았고, 마지막으로 「The Nursery」를 분석함으로써 그의 독특한 음악 양식에 대한 이해를 돕고, 아울러 soprano repertoir 로서 이 연가곡의 매력을 드러내 보고자 한다. ; Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky (1839-1881) was a Russian composer in the late 19th century, who was one of the group of five Russian composers of nationalist tendencies known as the ‘Mighty Hanaful’. He emphasized the unique color of Russian music by using nationalistic themes and melodies of folk songs in his music, as well as trying to express the real side of life by introducing realism into the music, in opposition to romanticism. He wrote 71 songs including song cycles, 9 choral works and 10 operas including “Boris Godunov” which is his representative work. This tells us his major field of composition was vocal, compared with the 7 orchestral works and 4 piano pieces he wrote. This is because his realistic taste could be most effectively expressed in vocal works. 「The Nursery」, the subject of this paper, is composed of seven songs as a cycle - ‘With Nurse’ (1868), ‘In the corner’ (1870), ‘The Beetle’ (1870), ‘With the Doll’ (1870), ‘Evening Prayer’ (1870), ‘The Naughty Puss’ (1872), and ‘On the Hobby-Horse’ (1872), the words of which he wrote himself. Mussorgsky, who always loved children, brought his inspiration about children to the short but lovely melodies and rhythms. This study surveys Modest Mussorgsky’s life in the first part and explains him musical characteristics and vocal works, and the last part analyzes 「The Nursery」 in order to comprehend his unique style of music and its unequaled attraction as part of the soprano repertoire.
