Maurice Ravel의 가곡에 대한 연구 : [Cinq melodies populaires grecques]를 중심으로

Abstract

라벨(Maurice Joseph Ravel. 1875-1937 )은 20세기 초에 활동한 프랑스 작곡가중 인상주의와 反인상주의를 혼합한 작풍을 사용한 작곡가로 드뷔시(Claude Debussy.1862-1918 )이후 가장 중요한 작곡가로 손꼽힌다. 그는 인상주의를 통해 으뜸가는 대표자의 한 사람으로 고전적 형식을 유지하면서 옛 것을 새롭게 하였고 구세대와 젊은 세대의 교량적 역할을 하였으며 어떤 양식도 모방하지 않은 독자적인 세계를 구축하였다. 본 논문은 라벨의 생애와 작품들, 작품들에 나타난 그의 전반적인 음악적 특징들을 연구해 보았고, 민요가 어떻게 가곡으로 승화하는지에 관심을 갖고서 그의 성악곡중 다른 나라의 특징적인 민속음악을 바탕으로한 가곡의 대표로 <Cinq melodies populaires grecques(5개의 그리스 민요)>을 연구해 보았다. 라벨의 작품에서 전반적인 음악적 특징들 중 형식은 대체로 고전주의적 형태를 취하고 있으며 선율은 비교적 명확한 윤곽을 나타내며 연속적인 동형진행과 반복음의 효과를 진행시킨 경우가 많다. 화성은 드뷔시의 모호한 색채효과에서 느낄 수 있는 것보다는 강한 조성을 가지고 있으나 선법적인 불협화음의 사용으로 다소 파괴된 느낌을 준다. 라벨의 성악곡의 비율은 다른 장르의 작품의 수에 비해 극히 적다. 그의 가곡은 모두 39곡인데 반주의 형태에 따라 피아노 반주로 된 성악곡, 관현악 반주로 된 성악곡과 다른 나라의 특징적인 민속음악을 바탕으로 한 성악곡으로 분류된다. 그 중에서 <Cinq melodies populaires grecques(5개의 그리스 민요)> 는 칼보코레시(M.D. Calvocoressi)에 의해 번역된 가사로 이국적인 정서와 민속음악에 대한 그의 관심을 가곡화한 곡이다. ; Maurice Joseph Ravel (1875-1937) was a French composer in the early twentieth century who employed the styles of impressionism and anti-impressionism uniquely mixed together. Ravel has been considered as the most important French composer since Claude Debussy (1862-1918). He was one of the representatives of impressionism. It was he who renewed the old methods, preserving classical techniques, and played the role of a bridge between the old and the new styles. Moreover, he established a unique style of his own that contains no imitation of any existing style. This thesis studies Ravel s life and his works, how it is evolved folk song to melodies and the overall musical features presented in his song cycle <Cinq melodies populaires grecques> as representing for classical songs based on folk songs from many countries. The form of Ravel s work follows classical form, present a relatively clear formation of melody, and proceed by consecutive sequence and repetition effects. The harmony has stronger tonality than that which can be perceived by the obscure color effects of Debussy; however it also has a destructive image by the use of mode or dissonance. In comparison with Ravel s total output, the number of his mlodies is rather small. There are thirty-nine in all. They can be classified as songs with piano, voice and orchestra, and folk song based on other countries unique features in terms of the formation of the accompaniment. According to M.D.Calvocoressi, <Cinq melodies populaires grecques> has become a classical, due to his great interest in foreign and folk song.
