현대국어의 'ㅎ' 축약과 탈락현상의 제약연구

Abstract

현대국어의 음운현상 중의 하나인 유기음화는 ‘ㄱ’, ‘ㄷ’, ‘ㅂ’, ‘ㅈ’이 ‘ㅎ’에 연접될 때 각각 ‘ㅋ’, ‘ㅌ’, ‘ㅍ’, ‘ㅊ’로 음성실현되는 것을 의미한다. 그러나 실제 언어생활에서는 ‘ㅎ’과 ‘ㅋ’, ‘ㅌ’, ‘ㅍ’, ‘ㅊ’이 연접된 음운환경(조건)에서 유기음화가 발생되지 않은 발화형이 발견되는데 동일한 음운환경에서 발생하는 상이한 이 현상을 그간의 논의는 하나의 원리로 설명해주지 못하였다. 이에 본고는 유기음화와 이 현상의 예외를 하나의 원리로 설명하는 데 그 목적이 있다. Ｉ장에서는 유기음화와 예외 현상에 관련한 선행연구가 갖는 문제점을 지적하고 본고의 연구목적을 밝히고 구체적인 연구대상과 연구방법(최적성이론)을 소개한다. Ⅱ장에서는 음소 ‘ㅎ(/h/)’의 수의적 탈락, 유기음화 및 예외를 보이는 자료를 제시하고 이 자료의 분석을 통해 유기음화의 예외가 발생하는 원인을 규명한다. Ⅲ장에서는 유기음화와 예외에 대한 생성음운론적 해석의 한계(선행연구의 문제점)를 再言하고 그 한계를 극복하는 설명방법으로서 최적성 이론이 갖는 장점을 살펴본다. 이때 최적성 이론이 제시하는 제약과 제약위계라는 개념을 再考하고 이것을 바탕으로 본 논의를 위한 제약과 제약위계를 상정한다. Ⅳ장에서는 본고에서 잠정적으로 사용된 ‘예외’라는 개념을 음운론적으로 재규정하고 유기음화와 그 예외를 제약위계라는 하나의 원리로 설명한다. Ⅲ장에서 상정된 제약 및 제약위계를 통해 먼저 유기음화를 설명하고 Ⅱ장에서 밝혀진 유기음화의 예외 원인을 제약위계가 변동하는 동인으로 활용하여 유기음화의 예외를 설명한다. Ⅴ장에서는 논의를 요약·정리하고 유기음화와 그 예외현상이 ‘제약의 위계’라는 하나의 틀로 체계화될 수 있음을 보인 본고의 의의를 再言한다. ;‘ㅎ’coalescence(aspiration) which is one of the phonological phenomena in Modern Korean means that ‘ㄱ’, ‘ㄷ’, ‘ㅂ’, (‘ㅈ’) turn to ‘ㅋ’, ‘ㅌ’, ‘ㅍ’, (‘ㅊ’) phonologically when they are connected with ‘ㅎ’. But actually we often find the phenomena of language that ‘ㅎ’aspiration isn t produced in phonogical condition that ‘ㄱ’, ‘ㄷ’, ‘ㅂ’, (‘ㅈ’) and ‘ㅎ’ are connected. Up to the present, most researches have not explained synthetically these contradictory phenomena-‘ㅎ’aspiration and exception of ‘ㅎ’aspiration happened in the same phonological condition. Hence this paper aims at explaining ‘ㅎ’aspiration and exception of ‘ㅎ’aspiration with a coherent principle. In chapter Ⅰ, I present the purpose of this paper, the object and method(Optimality Theory) of study through investigating the preceding studies regarding ‘ㅎ’aspiration and exception of ‘ㅎ’aspiration. In chapter Ⅱ, I present the lexical data of ‘ㅎ’deletion, ‘ㅎ’aspiration and exception of ‘ㅎ’aspiration, analyse them, then look into the causes that produce exception of ‘ㅎ’aspiration minutely. In chapter Ⅲ, I propose Optimality Theory as an way that deals successfully with the limitations of the preceding studies on ‘ㅎ’aspiration and exception of ‘ㅎ’aspiration, and I examine that Optimality Theory has merits in describing ‘ㅎ’aspiration and exception of ‘ㅎ’aspiration. Then I reconsider the concepts of the constraints and the constraint hierarchy in Optimality Theory, suggest the constraints and the constraint hierarchy to be considered in this paper. In chapter Ⅳ, I phonologically redefine the concept of ‘exception’ that has been considered as the temporary concept in the preceding chapters and describe ‘ㅎ’aspiration and exception of ‘ㅎ’aspiration with a principle, constraint hierarchy. Firstly, I describe ‘ㅎ’aspiration through using constraint and constraint hierarchy proposed in chapter Ⅲ. Secondly, I describe exception of ‘ㅎ’aspiration through looking upon the causes that produce exception of ‘ㅎ’aspiration examined in chapter Ⅱ as the factors that make constraint hierarchy change. In chapter Ⅴ, I sum up this paper and restate the purport of this paper that ‘ㅎ’aspiration and exception of ‘ㅎ’aspiration can be explained systemically as a principle, constraint hierarchy.
