색동의 현대적 표현을 위한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

색에 대한 포괄적 뜻과 개념의 차이에서 서양은 빛의 스펙트럼 현상에서 색이 인지되고, 광학적 현상에서 파악되는 색의 색상, 명도, 또는 광도, 채도, 또는 순도 등을 분석해 낸다. 그러나 동양에서는 인간의 감정이나 정서상태와 깊이 관련되어 있는데 이것은 동양 특유의 자연주의 사상과 관련되어 있고, 구체적으로는 동양의 정신세계를 지배해온 음양오행사상이 바탕이 되는 것이다. 특히, 동양권 여러 나라에서 찾아볼 수 있는 색동은 우리민족의 색채감정을 형성하고 표현한 대표적인 예라고 볼 수 있다. 본 연구는 색동의 현대적 소화를 위해 동서양의 색채이론에 대한 개념의 차이점과 복식사를 배경으로 한 색동옷의 위치와 색동옷의 미적추구, 그리고 색동옷의 실물 자료사진 분석을 통해서 색동을 모티브로 한 다양한 현대 디자인 개발의 가능성을 목적으로 하였다. 그리고 이론적 배경으로 동서양의 색채관에 대한 개념의 차이점과 우리나라 복식사를 배경으로 한 색동의 역사적 고찰과 색동의 조형적 특성 및 사례를 살피고, 실제 유물을 발견할 수 없는 상고시대에서 고려시대까지는 고분을 통하여 복식생활을 고찰하고, 복식 문화의 발전을 볼 수 있는 조선시대에서는 문헌과 박물관들에서 수집된 실물 사진자료 50번 및 잡지에서 수집한 사진 몇 점을 중심으로 복식문화 발전과 색동의 복식사례를 살피고, 색동을 이용한 복식 사례는 우리나라 한복에서 양장으로 전환해가는 1955년 이후의 잡지 사진을 중심으로 하였다. 그리고 복식학계의 권위있는 고수님들의 조언을 토대로 색동을 조형, 색채, 구도 등에서 응용한 현대 패션에 대한 가능성을 찾아보기로 하였다. 이러한 이론적 연구를 바탕으로 작품 8점을 제작하였으며 색동을 표현하는 소재는 수직 실크를 주로 사용하여 직접 손으로 염색하였고, 기법은 선적인 색동의 연결을 위하여 패치워크 기법과 누빔 기법 등을 사용하였다. 전체적으로 몸의 라인을 잘 보여주는 심플한 실루엣으로 색동이 갖고 있는 아름다운 색의 조합과 다양한 구성을 보여주었다. 자연이 보여주는 무지개색, 오행 상생색에 맞춘 오방색, 조사한 50벌의 유물들에 많이 나타나고, 상생에 따른 정색과 간색인 다섯 가지색, 파스텔 톤에 나타난 다섯 가지 색, 회색톤, 흑색 등 여러 가지 표현 방법으로 색동의 원색으로부터 색조를 변화시킨 것 까지 다양하고 색다른 구성상의 특징을 응용해 직선, 원, +자, X자 등 여러 가지 모양의 색동을 시도하였다. 연구 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 색에 대한 서양의 다른 관점을 받아들이고, 자연에서 얻어진 색감의 색동을 음양오행에 따른 벽사의 의미보다는 직관적이고 자연을 따르는 선택으로 현대의 색동을 창조할 수 있었다. 둘째, 전통 색동 색상에서 탈피하여 파스텔 톤이나 중간 색조로 변화시킨 것, 흑색의 사용, 색 간격을 변화시키는 등 현대의 색동을 보여주고 있어 색조변화와 다양한 현대적인 구성을 통해 현대 의상의 다양한 형태에 적용될 수 있는 가능성을 제시할 수 있었다. 이와 같이 전통을 바탕으로 한 색동은 한국을 상징하는 색으로, 이제 한국의 색으로 세계 속에 있다. 세계는 정보와 디자인의 시대로 하루가 다르게 발전하고 있다. 전통 색동의 철학적 배경을 기초로 하되 색동의 색상과 색배열을 다각도로 접근해 그 고유한 개성과 조형미를 잃지 않으면서도 현대 의상의 특성에 부합되도록 해석, 적용해야 할 것이다. ; Man s food, clothing, and shelter have been developed by his desires and needs as living in nature, so have been his aesthetic senses and pursuits. Therefore, it seems natural for people both in the East and West to have looked at the fantastic rain how or nature and applied striped beauty with happy, hopeful and lovely feelings to clothes. Particularly, in or country, Saekdong has been an object of deep attachment and regarded as a tool for expressing Korea images from ancient times to the present, so the author of this study is to employ those various color arrangements and geometrical formativity in the existing Saekdong to explore the possibility of Saekdong to become worldwidely used. The West and East have very different points of view about general meaning or concept of color. In the West, color is understood as a result of light spectrum and optically analyzed into tone, lightness, brightness, chroma, and purity. On the other hand, in the East, color is deeply related to man s feelings or emotional status. This is relevant to the peculiar naturalistic thoughts of the East and, concretely speaking, is based upon the idea of Yin, Yand, and Five Elements that has dominated the spiritual world of the East. We can see costumes of the Three Kingdoms era or Koryo dynasty on the murals of ancient tomb, presume their social backgrounds through remains of the past, and find out the existence of Saekdong. Chosun dynasty shows a wonderful growth of fashion not only in dress but also in such accessories as patchwork wrapping-cloth and Saekdong, which imply a lot in formation or color arrangement. They call Korean people the white-robed race. In fact, we do like white robes, but we don t think white robe itself is a symbolic image of Korea. Rather, Sackdong which we can see throughout many Eastern countries is a representative image that has been forming and expressing our race s color emotions for a long time. In or history of clothing, main color is white, however, primary colors appear in official uniforms, ceremonial and festival dresses, and particularly more frequently in women s costume. Korean have been unconsciously used to natural acception of everything in nature under a long influence of the Chinese idea of Yin, Yang and Five Elements, and especially domination of Confucian thoughts, social limitation upon women, and unique structure of the house have brought development of outstanding handicrafts and color harmony as we see in Saekdong, paper wares, color thread box, thimble, patchwork, and Obangnangja. In Saekdong, vivid primary colors are orderly arranged to create splendor, happiness and joy, thus show the highest reach of color harmony. Based upon the theoretical background and historical investigation of Saekdong, the author of this study has been made multilaterally to see it freely and naturalistically rather than to see it as related to the idea of Yin, yang, and Five Element or driving off evil spirits through understanding the artistic world of abstract painting and many experimental works of Saekdong in contemporary fashion.
