조각보의 조형미를 응용한 의상디자인 연구 : 면 구성적 특징을 중심으로

Abstract

인간 생활을 영위하는데 기본 조건으로 꼽는 ‘의·식·주’ 가운데 의생활은 그 첫 손에 꼽힌다. 특히 우리 민족은 일찍부터 문화민족으로 널리 알려 지면서 각 시대와 사회의 예의제도와 관련하여 어느 민족 못지않게 훌륭한 의생활을 영위하여 왔으며, 우리복식에는 면면이 이어져 내려오는 역사의 흔적이 있고, 선조의 정신이 서려 있다. 복식은 그 시대의 역사적 배경이나 사회환경, 생활양식에 따라 변화하여 왔다. 우리의 복식 역시 조상의 지혜를 바탕으로 보다 편리하고 세련된 복식문화에 적용시키려는 노력에 의해 많은 변천을 거듭하여 왔다. 특히 현대복식에서 조각보는 생활장식품으로서 특히 현대복식디자인의 모티브로 널리 응용되고 있음은 주목할 만하다. 본 논문은 의상디자인에 있어서 우리 복식문화의 소품적 특색을 지닌 조각보의 조형적인 특징을 응용하여 전통적인 조형미를 표출시키는 동시에 현대 복식디자인의 창의적 표현영역을 확대함에 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 문헌 조사와 보존 유물의 실증적 자료를 통해 조각보의 조형적 특성을 분석, 제시하고, 그 결과를 디자인에 응용하기 위해 실물 총 8벌의 작품을 제작하였다. 제작방법은 펠트(FELT)천을 주소재로 하여, 끝처리가 용이한 인조 스웨이드를 이용하여 조각보의 형태를 다양하게 구성하였다. 조각보는 천조각을 이어 붙일 때 솔기 부분의 실이 풀리지 않도록 이중 홈질을 해서 처리했으며 이때 천과 조화를 이룰 수 있는 에나멜선을 이용하여 손뜨개질을 한 것이 특색이다. 조각보가 대부분 직선으로 이루어져 있는 점을 보완하기 위해 인체의 실루엣과 공간감을 형성하였다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 현대복식에 전통 조각보의 면구성적 특징을 도입하되 펠트 위에 젯소(GESSO)와 아크릴 물감으로 새롭게 표현함으로써 독창적인 이미지를 표출할 수 있었다. 둘째, 현대 복식에 있어서는 패치워크 기법이 그대로 적용되고 있으나 기존의 틀에서 벗어나 끝 처리가 깔끔한 스웨이드를 이용하여 펠트 위에 그대로 연결시키거나 니팅 기법으로 조각보의 형태를 구성하는 제작과정을 통해 전통 조각보의 이미지를 새롭게 부각시킬 수 있었다. 셋째, 전통 조각보의 조형미를 현대화하는 과정에서 다양한 소재와 표현 기법, 실루엣의 변화를 통해 고부가가치를 창출할 수 있었다. 이와 같은 연구의 결과를 통해 우리나라의 전통 조각보가 가진 다양한 색채와 조형미를 살려 현대적 감각과 기법을 제대로 응용할 수 있다면 그 어떤 복식의 구성요소보다 우수한 맵시와 기능을 나타낼 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 더불어 전통 조각보에 깃든 순수성과 아름다움은 우리만이 가질 수 있는 민족 고유의 독창적인 소재로서 계승 발전시켜 나가야함을 인식할 수 있었다. 본 연구와 함께 실제 작업과정에서 조각보의 조형미를 부각하는데 있어 이를 보완하기 위해서는 앞으로도 더욱 다양한 소재 응용기법이 연구되어야 할 것으로 사료된다. ; Costume has been coexisting with man ever sine human history began, and in modern society its role in man s living, culture and art has become so great that it is now an object most refreshing and of extensive concern to man. This study, based on the expressive quality and purity of Korean traditional cloth wrappers which have the formativity continuously pursueing new visual inspirations, is to seek new expressional diversities and rediscover our traditional beauty and at the same time to present possibilities of reflecting more unique, new spirit of the times inherent in our culture and of creating certain formative world of design value. In studying, literary reference as a theoretical background, analysis of the formative characteristics of traditional cloth wrappers through corroborative data preserved as a cultural asset at museums, and actual making of eight works in total based on the results of analysis have been paralled. Existing traditional cloth wrappers and relevant literature are, in general, of the later period of Chosun dynasty, especially in the case of the former, there is certain beauty from direct necessity of living and handmade methods that reflects our emotion, so it can be regarded as an example developed from a living article to a pure art. And the results of this study are as follows; First, by applying elements of traditional cloth wrapper to modern costume, the author could create various harmonious atmosphere with new materials in a given condition. Second, by applying the formative characteristics of traditional cloth wrapper to modern costume, the author could rediscover our race s peculiar aesthetic values and present possibilities of creative expression. Third, casting off literal application of patchwork technique of traditional cloth wrapper and using swathe easy to hem, the author could preserve the form of patchwork wrapper through direct linking to pelt or knitting technique. Adoption of new techniques can bring new expressions of traditional cloth wrapper. Fourth, by employing the formativity of traditional cloth wrapper and grafting it upon costume design, the author could create a high value added of modern costume with practicality and formativity. Fifth, through modernization of the formative beauty of traditional cloth wrapper unique costume designs can be developed, and furthermore we can extend our country s competency in the world market. There are many types of traditional cloth wrapper in Korea, and they are excellent considerably in the aspects of color and formation. We should place high value on the purity of suck components, recognize the sincere spiritual world inn each pieces of cloth, and critically accept, crate and develop our heritage. Our ethnic things deeply connected with our living should not be forgotten, and it is desirable to develop further and transmit the formative beauty and features of cur traditional cloth wrapper to develop our own unique costume culture.
