복고적 이미지를 표현한 의상디자인 연구 : 버슬 스타일(Bustle Style)을 중심으로

Abstract

복식은 인류의 역사와 함께 생성되어 발전하는 것으로 어느 한 시대의 복식은 그 시대의 정신을 반영하며 착용자의 미적추구의 방향에 따라 변화하고 소멸되며 다음 시기에 다시 나타나기도 하는 주기적인 성격을 이루며 발전해 나간다. 복식에서의 과거의 재현은 유행현상의 한 양식으로 나타나며 이 때의 옛것의 재현은 완전한 반복이 아닌 역사적 요소들을 해체, 과장, 확대, 축소 등을 통하여 새로운 스타일로 재창조되는 것이다. 이렇듯 과거의 요소들이 현재에 새로운 형식으로 재현되는 현상을 복고 현상으로 볼 수 있으며 복고풍 의상은 의생활에서 새로운 스타일의 확대와 다양성, 신선함과 과거에의 향수를 조화시켜 주는 디자인 영감의 원천으로서 현대복식에 다양하게 응용되고 있다. 이러한 과거의 요소 중에서 버슬 스타일은 복식사상 특이한 실루엣을 보이며 17세기부터 19세기까지 세기말에 주기적으로 나타났으며 인체의 재해석을 통한 과장의 표현으로서 오늘날에는 유희적이며 익살스러운 표현의 장르로 나타나고 있다. 본 연구에서는 버슬 스타일을 복고적인 이미지의 모티프로 하여 과거와 현대의 조화를 모색하여 확대된 디자인 영역을 제시하고 창의적인 디자인 개발에 그 목적을 두었다. 이론적 배경으로는 복고성의 개념과 특성을 유행 주기설의 관점에서 고찰하고, 복고적 이미지의 표현요소로서의 버슬 스타일의 형태, 구조, 특징 등을 17세기말에서 19세기말까지를 범위로 하여 문헌고찰과 사진자료를 통하여 분석하였다. 연구 방법으로는 이론적 고찰을 토대로 벼슬의 조형적인 특징 중에서 과장형 복식으로서 면적적 장식성의 측면성과 후방연장성을 강조하여 현대적으로 재해석한 스타일과 현대적 의미의 버슬 스타일로서 디자인 강조점을 인체 후면에 둔 스타일을 모티프로 하여 8점의 실물 작품을 제작하였다. 작품의 소재는 실크, 수직실크, 산퉁실크 등을 주로 사용하고 노방이나 오간디와 같은 가벼운 소재를 장식적인 요소로 사용하였다. 이러한 연구과정을 통하여 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 버슬 스타일을 현대복식으로 재현하는 과정에서 엉덩이가 강조되고 돌출된 실루엣의 특징이 현대적으로 재해석되어 과장, 변형을 통하여 유머러스하며 익살스럽고 경쾌한 이미지의 유희적 요소로 현대복식에 표현되는 것을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 버슬 스타일은 후방성과 측면성의 면적적 장식성이 강조된 인체 연장복식으로서 착용자의 자기 확대 심리를 표현하기에 적합한 스타일임을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 엉덩이를 부풀린 실루엣을 구성하기 위해서는 도구를 착용하거나 조형적으로 구성된 공간적 형태를 별도로 부착하여야 하므로 현대인의 생활상에서 기능성과 활동성에 불편함이 있어 실용복 으로는 문제점이 있음을 알 수 있었다. 넷째, 뒤를 장식하는 버슬 스타일에서 장식을 부착하기 위해서는 몸판이 타이트하게 꼭 맞아야하므로 인체의 선을 그대로 나타내주어 인체미를 표현할 수 있으며 전체적인 라인이 심플하여 뒤의 장식이 더욱 강조되는 것을 알 수 있었다. 다섯째, 복식사적 요소로서 버슬 스타일의 형태, 소재, 색상, 장식 요소들이 현대와의 조화를 통하여 시대감각에 맞게 재창조되어 새로운 스타일의 복고적 이미지를 표현한 현대복식을 제시할 수 있었다. ; Dress and its ornament advances along with the history of mankind and dress and its ornament is a given age reflects spirit of that age and according to direction of aesthetical pursuit it undergoes changes and extinction and reappearance in the next age thus it progresses in a cyclic pattern. Revival of the past in dress and its ornaments appears as a form of a phenomenon of fashion. At such a time revival of old things is not a perfect repetition of the past but recreation of new style through dis-assembly, exaggeration, enlargement and contraction. Like this phenomenon of revival of the past in a new form in the present can be understood for characteristic of retrospect. And Retro Fashion is applied to modern dress and its ornament in various ways as source of inspiration for design through extension of new style in dress, its diversity, freshness and sentimentalism for the past. A sort of yearning for the past, Bustle Style showed a unique silhouette in the elements of the past and was a recurrent phenomenon, an exaggerative expression through reinterpretation of human body, repetitively appearing during end of the century from 17th to 19th century cyclically and in contemporary scene it is represented in a genre of frolicsome and farcical expression. The purpose of this treatise is to seek harmony between the past and present and to propose enlarged realm of design and develop creative fashion design under the main motif of retrospective image of Bustle Style. In this treatise the writer studied the concept and characteristics of retrospect from standpoint of cyclic theory. form, structure and features of bustle Style which was element of expression of retrospective image were subjected to analysis through available literature and pictorial data from 17th century to 19th century. And 8 pieces of works are produced under the motif of Bustle Style including reinterpretation style in modern style that emphasized a side wardphase of dimensional ornament and behind trailing feature and emphasis to the rear portion of human body as Bustle style of modern significance. The materials for works were mainly silks. And light materials such as muslin and organdy were used for decoration. And the conclusion reached through this study is as follows: First, characteristic of Bustle silhouette that emphaseized and projected upon hip by process of revival as modern style is expressed for frolicsome element of humorous, comical and lighthearted image through exaggeration and transformation to reinterpretation of modern dress and its ornament. Second, Bustle style is suitable style expressed wearing man s self enlargement mentality for body trailing feature dress and its ornament that emphasize back wardphase and dimensional ornament property of side wardphase. Third, for composing silhouette expanded upon hip it is necessary wearing an instrument or attaching a spatial form aethestically composed by separate way therefore it is problem for dress of practical use because of inconvenience for functional and activity in present-day life. Fourth, for attaching Bustle Style ornaments it is necessary for the dress to fit tightly to human body thus contours of body can be shown therefore it is possible to show contours of body by expressing it as they are. Furthermore due to simplicity of overall decorations on the rear part of human body were more emphasized. Fifth, form, material, color, ornaments of Bustle Style for historical elements of dress and its ornament could be present new style of modern dress and its ornament expressing retrospective image through reflecting harmony between the present and the past and recreation match with the sense of the times.
