수제지를 응용한 복식 디자인 연구 : 임베딩(Embedding)기법을 중심으로

Abstract

현대 의상 산업은 상업주의의 팽배와 대량생산에 의한 디자인의 획일화에서 탈피하여, 예술성, 독창성, 고부가가치성을 추구하는 경향으로 바뀌어 가고 있다. 또한 이러한 경향은 대량생산에 의한 화학섬유가 아닌 천연소재와 과거의 수공예적인 직물의 가치를 높이게 되었다. 따라서 우리에게 주어진 가장 시급한 점은 창조적인 다양한 의상소재와 그 표현기법의 개발을 통한 의상산업의 질적 향상이라고 볼 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 과학과 산업발전에 따른 무한한 소재의 홍수 속에서, 다양한 색감, 질감 등에 있어서 우수한 효과를 실현할 수 있는 수제지를 표현재료로 선택하였다. 그리고 수제지의 독특한 특성과다양한 기법을 응용하여 조형미를 창조하고 타재료와의 조화로운 결합에 의해 아름다운 재질감을 형성하여 이를 수제지의 단점을 보완하여 현대의상 디자인에 접목하고자 하였다. 또한 의상소재로서의 수제지의 기능성과 심미성을 강화하여 한층 더 실용화 된 고부가가치의 복식조형을 창조하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 이론적 배경으로 수제지의 역사를 문헌을 통해 고찰하고 수제지기법과 특성을 알아보았으며 현대 미술에서의 수제지 작품을 기법과 재료, 형태에 따라 분석해 보았다. 또한 종이의상의 역사와 종이를 소재로 한 동·서양의 현대의상을 문헌을 통해 살펴보았고, 이와 관련된 참고 작품을 표집하였다. 이를 토대로 하여 총 8점의 작품을 제작하였으며, 수제지 제작기법 중 임베딩(Embedding)기법을 중심으로 한 제작과정을 거쳐 수제지의 독특한 질감에서 우러나는 자연미를 강조하기 위한 부소재의 선택과 그와의 조화를 위한 자연스러운 의상 디자인을 추구하였다. 이러한 연구를 통해 얻은 결과를 종합하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 닥지와 거어즈, 옥수수 수염, 사이잘 삼, 실크사 등이 혼합된 임베딩기법에 의하여 제작되어진 수제지는 투명도를 가감할 수 있는 풍부한 질감을 가지고 있으며 수공예적 조형미를 지닌 독창적인 의상소재로서 사용될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 둘째, 수제지는 여러 가지 표현기법을 통하여 평면, 부조, 입체의 자유스러운 조형미를 추구할 수 있으며, 여러 겹을 겹치는 중첩과 반복의 효과로 인해 보다 다양하고 효과적인 조형 형태 구성이 가능하므로 이를 소재로 한 의상제작에 있어서 조형적인 형태미를 극대화할 수 있다. 셋째, 작가의 개성이 표현된 수제지의 독특한 재질을 활용해 의상에 적용하는 시도는 새로운 고부가가치 소재로의 모색과 전망을 가능하게 하였다. 넷째, 부드러운 파스텔톤의 색상과 자연스러운 뎃클엣지(Deckle-Edge) 기법은 천연소재인 수제지의 재질감을 부각시킴으로써 자연미를 강조하였다. 다섯째, 종이의 빳빳한 성질과, 찢어지는 단점을 보완하기 위해 드레이프성이 강한 거어즈와의 결합은 종이의 내구성과 웨어러빌리티를 강화하였으며, 의상소재로서의 실용가능성과 착용가능성을 확대시켰다. 이러한 수공예로 이루어진 종이 의상은 현대의상 디자인의 가치와, 독창성, 실용성, 예술성을 높이기 위해 계속 시도외어야 하며, 종이의상이 보편화되기 위해서는 방수가공, 염색후처리, 신축성가공, 내구성 등의 실용성 있는 종이 재질 개발이 연구되어져야 할 것이다. 본 연구에 의한 수제지 기법 개발이 실용성과 예술성을 겸비한 새로운 의상소재로서의 가능성을 제시하는 계기가 되었으면 한다. ; The industry of modern clothing has deviated from the overflow of commercialism and the standardization and nowadays is going toward pursuing art, creativity, and high added value. This trend brings the return of the natural materials from the synthetic textiles and increases the value of old and handmade fabrics. Finally, the handmade paper, which is a natural material, comes to be reconsidered as a new material for the clothing. Therefore, as the natural materials and the manufacture globalization of clothing industry should be first realized through the developments of creative and various clothing materials and new expressing techniques. In the study, among the flood of numerous materials by the development of science and industry, handmade-paper was selected as a material for expression due to the superiority in color and texture. Through the applications of the unique characters of handmade-paper, the molding beauty by various manufacturing methods, and the harmonious combination with other materials, the beautiful texture was created and then handmade-paper was applied to the design for the modern clothing after the complement of the demerits. Additionally, the beauty of handmade-paper works were analyzed according to the technique, stuff, and style in modern art. Furthermore, the history of paper clothes was also studied and modern paper clothes in the east and the west were observed. On the basis of above considerations, total 8 works were produced with the embedding technique among the manufacturing methods of handmade-paper. Sub-materials were collected to emphasize the natural the natural clothing design, which can be in harmony with handmade-paper, was pursued. The above investigation and study have been synthesized and analyzed as follows: First, handmade-paper was manufactured by the embedding method, which mixed mulberry pulp, gauze, corn hair, sisal, silk and so on. It was found that handmade-paper had the affluent and proper texture as the variation of thickness. It was also confirmed that the creative and original texture with hand-worked molding beauty was obtained by the use of handmade-paper. Second, when the handmade-paper is used, the molding beauty of plane, relievo, and solid can e freely pursued, and various and effective molding conformation can be constructed by the effect of superposition and repetition. Also, because the maximum discretion from the various optional manufacturing methods, is allowed, the molding beauty can be maximized when the clothes are manufactured with handmade-paper. Third, the unique characters of handmade-papers which were privately produced by some artistic manufacturers were applied to the modern clothes and thus the pursuit and perspective of new works with high added value became initiated. Fourth, the gauze with strong drape was combined to overcome the stiffness and the tearing of the paper. As a result, the durability and the wearability of the paper were strengthened and thus applications as the clothing material were enlarged. In conclusion, in order to enhance the value, creativity, practicality, and artistic sense of the design sense of the design for modern clothing, the clothes made of handmade-paper should be more studied. Moreover, for the generalization of paper clothes, the studies on the development of practical paper with water resistance, post-treatment after dyeing, flexibility, and durability should be done. I really hope that study will be the motive to provoke the possibility of handmade-paper as new clothing material in not only practical sense but also artistic sense.
