시조쟝르의 시대적 변모와 그 의미

Abstract

본 연구는 시조 쟝르의 시대적 변모 양상과 그에 따른 의미를 규명하기 위하여 시도되었다. 고시조로부터 개화기시조, 현대시조에 이르는 시조 전통성에 대한 기왕의 논의는 그 실상을 드러내는데 근접하지 못한 아쉬움이 있다. 이른바 고시조, 개화기시조(혹은 근대시조), 현대시조 등으로 각기 구분되면서 별도의 쟝르로 연구되는 사오항이 일반적이었다. 그러나 시조 전통성의 실상은 고시조부터 현대시조에 이르는 총괄적인 범주 속에서 그 지속과 변모의 다각적인 검토를 토대롤 밝혀질 수 있을 것이다. 이 연구는 시조 쟝르의 시대적인 변모 양상을 고찰하기 위하여 시조를 몇가지의 구조적 속성의 관점에서 파악하였다. 따라서 형식구조, 주제, 작자층의 의식과 그 표현이라는 세 가지의 관점을 태하여 시조가 어떻게 지속, 변모되었는가를 탐색하였다. II章에서는 시조의 형식구조와 그 변모 양상을 살펴보았다. 주요 형식적 단위와 3장 구조의 원리라는 측면에서 고시조, 개화기시조, 현대시조의 형식이 어떻게 계승, 변이되었는가를 파악 하였다. 이러한 형식 변모의 양상은 단순히 시조의 형식 면을 논하는데 그치지 않고 형식을 통해 나타난 시대적 인식이나 세계관을 규명하는데에 까지 나아갈 수 있다. 그런 의미에서 II章은 III, IV章의 內容的인 측면과 서로 유기적인 관련성을 갖는다. III章에서는 시조의 주제와 그 변모 양상을 살펴 보았다. 기존의 시조 주제에 대한 연구는 단순히 주제를 분류하는 방식이 일반적이었다. 그러나 시조가 하나의 詩라는 점에서 볼 때 시조 역시 2차적인 의미체계를 내포한 시로서 연구되어야 할 것이다. 따라서 이 장에서는 주제 연구의 문제점을 극복하기 위하여 시조의 시적 기능을 통해 그 주제를 살펴 보았다. 즉 시조의 시적 기능을 5가지로 분류하고 그러한 언어전달 기능을 통하여 고시조, 개화기시조, 현대시조에 이르는 주제의 양상을 고찰하였다. IV章에서는 시대적 변모에 따른 작자층의 의식을 공통어구, 투어의 표현과 자연에 관한 표현을 통하여 살펴 보았다. 공통어구, 투어가 시대적으로 어떻게 다른 의미 층위를 갖는가, 그리고 자연에 대한 표현이 어떻게 달리 표현되었는가를 작자층 의식의 변모와 관련시켜 논의하였다. II, III, IV章이 전반적으로 시조가 어떻게 변모하는 가를 살펴보는데 치중하였다면 V章은 왜 그렇게 변모했는가를 살펴봄으로써 변모양상을 다각적으로 검토하고 그 원인과 의미를 밝힌 章이라 하겠다. V章에서는 시조 변모의 요인으로서 시조의 다양한 존재방식을 살펴보고 시대성과 관련시켜 논의하였다. 나아가 전반적인 변모양상을 토대로 세계관을 규명하고 시조 변모의 文學社會學的인 의미를 규명하였다. 이상의 논의를 바탕으로 시조의 변모와 그 의미를 밝힘으로써 고시조, 개화기시조, 현대시조의 존재 양상을 파악할 수 있었다. 또한 세계관의 양상을 점검함으로써 쟝르의 생성과 소멸에 대한 가능성 여부도 제시되었다. 그리고 기존의 時調史의 시기 구분을 수정하여 새로운 시각을 제시하였다. 이와 관련하여 시조사 자체 내에서 파악되는 근대문학의 기점도 제시하였다. 여기서 나타난 결과는 기존의 근대문학의 연구의 기점 파악에 하나의 단서가 될 수 있을 것으로 보인다. 시조사 전반을 다루는 연구는 그 광범이한 성격 때문에 개괄적인 논의로 흐르기 쉽다. 그러나 이러한 한계의 인식에만 머무른다면 고시조로부터 개화기시조, 현대시조에 이르는 시조史 전반을 꿰뚫는 연구는 좀처럼 이루어질 수 없을 것이며 또한 전통의 실상을 파악하는 일도 요원하게 될 것이다. 이 논문은 될 수 있으며 포괄적인 논의의 한계를 탈피하고자 노력하였으나 광범위한 시조史 자체의 성격 때문에 그 全貌를 완벽하게 다루지 못한 한계점이 있었다. 그러나 단순히 시조 연구에 멈추지 않고 전통 양식의 계승이라는 일반적 문학논의에로 확산될 수 있는 성질의 것이기 대문에 매우 중요하고 의미있는 작업이라 생각된다. ; This dissertation is an attempt to find out the phases of sijo genre with the change of the times and their significances. Up to the present, discussions on the nature of tradition of sijo, ranging from the old sijo and the sijo in the enlightened age to the contemporary sijo, have not fully revealed the true nature of sijo. The general attitude of study is to deal sijo respectively as a divided genre ?so-called old sijo, sijo in the enlightened age and contemporary sijo. But the traditionally true nature of sijo from the old age to the present can be found out upon the examinations of the continuance and change of sijo. In the dissertation, I have analyzed the sijo in the view of some structural character to find out the phases of it with the change of the times. The major viewpoints are formal structure, theme, and the consciousness of the writer class and their expressions. Chapter II deals with the formal structure of the sijo and their aspects of change. In the viewpoint of major formal unit and three-verse structure of the sijo, the succession and transformation of formal structure form the old sijo to the contemporary sijo have been analyzed. The study on the changes in the formal structure serves to make clear the perception of the each age and their world vision. Chapter III deals with the theme of the sijo and their aspects of change. The general attitudes of studies up to the present was merely to classify the theme. But a sijo is to be studied as a poem that contains in itself a meaning system. The themes of the sijo have been researched through its poetical function to remedy the problem of the past studies. The poetical function of the sijo was classified in five ways. The theme of the sijo was analyzed in the views of its communicating function. Chapter IV contains the consciousness of the writer class with their formula and their nature. Their distinguished expressions with different strata of meaning and vision of nature have been studied in connection with the consciousness of the writer class. While, chapter II, III, and IV deals with the way how the sijo has been changed, Chapter V deals with the cause and meaning of it. Chapter V contains the various existential styles of the sijo as a causes of change in respect of the idea of each age. On the bases of general aspects of the transformation, the world vision has been made clear the meaning in the sociology of the literature has been grasped. As a result, the extential aspects of sijo was found out. By investigating the aspects of their world vision, not only the creation and extinction of genre but also the future of contemporary sijo was presented. Newly presented viewpoint adjusts the past studies of history of sijo and suggests the starting point where the modern literature within the history of sijo begins. The result can serve to find the starting point of the past study on the modern literature. The defect of far-reaching study is a generalization of the argument if we limited to the restriction of the generalization the study of sijo in a total coherence is not possible and true nature of sijo tradition cannot be revealed. In this dissertation, I have endeavored to overcome the limits of all-inclusive discussion, but the extensive nature of the history of sijo has made me not to deal with it completely. But it has very important significance that the conclusion of this dissertation can be applied to find out issues in the succession of the traditional styles of literature.
