중세국어의 응축보문연구 : "오/우-"의 통사기능 중심으로

Abstract

중세 국어는 선어말 어미 ‘-오/우-‘의 실현 여부로 독특한 통사체계를 형성한다. 종래 구조주의 언어학의 관점에서 ‘-오/우-‘에 대한 대표적 연구는 형태론적 입장에서 표면의 ‘-오/우-‘의 분포를 통해 인친 대상 활용으로 본 인칭설, 서법에 관점에서 의미규명에 주력한 화자 의도설, 서법을 직설법과 정동법으로 나누고, 다시 표면의 1인칭과 ‘-오/우-‘ 호응문장을 주관정동법으로, 나머지를 객관정동법으로 본 정동법설이 있다. 한편 서술어미와 실현되는 ‘-오/우-‘를 자기중심적 정위의 지각표상으로 기능을 규명한 견해도 있다. 상기 연구는 구조주의 입장에서 비교적 표면구조에 충실하려는 방법론적 한계 때문에 서법에 보이는 일반화가 이루어지지 않은 듯하다. 이런 점에 유의하면서 본 연구는 변형문법에 입장에서, 서법에 보이는 ‘-오/우-‘의 통사현상을 심층구조의 측면에서 분석해보았다. 본고에서는 상위 서술문의 보문구조에서 응축을 이룰때 ‘-오/우-‘가 삽입됨을 보이면서, 표면에서 1인칭과 호응하는 ‘-오/우-‘도 추상적 상위 이행문을 설정하여 표면구조의 서술문이 심층의 이행보문 구조에서 도출됨을 보였다. ‘-오/우-‘가 실현되는 문장은 다음과 같은 기저 구조를 갖는다. S → NP VP VP → (NP)(NP) V NP → S(N) N 상기 기저구조에서 보문의 동일명사 삭제의 기본 변형을 거쳐 SxNO + VP라의 불투명한 보문으로 응축하여 도출될 때 기저 보문의 영화응축표지로 ‘-오/우-‘가 삽입되어짐을 논증하였다. 뿐만아니라 [말하다]류의 동상[ 인식(thought), 정감( feeling), 의지(intention)의 양상이 첨가될 경우에도 같은 조건에서 ‘-오/우-‘가 삽입됨을 보이면서 표면상 무관한듯이 보이는 ‘-오/우-‘의 실현이 심층의 동일한 기저구조에서 도출되는 유기적 현상임을 밝혀 ‘-오/우-‘의 통사기능을 살피고 국어의 서술문이 보문구조에서 도출됨을 고찰하였다. 서술문에서 화자의 인식태도가 반영된 구조에서도 상위문과 하위문의 주어가 상호지시적일 때 ‘-오/우-‘가 삽입, 인식양상어소와 축약을 일으켜 실현됨을 보였다. 점감문에서는 정감문이 서술문 상위에 있는 것으로 보아 이 때에도 정감자와 서술자가 상호지시적일때 ‘-오/우-‘가 삽입됨을 보였다. 미래시상 ‘-리-‘와 함께 실현되는 ‘-오/우-‘도 [말하다]류의 동사에 의지(itention)의 심리양상이 첨가된 구성에서 상위문과 하위문의 주어가 상호지시적일 때 삽입됨을 보였다. 표면구조에 보이는 ‘-오/우-‘가 다른 구조에서 실현되지만, 동일한 기저구조에서 서로 다른 변형을 통해 도출될 때 ‘-오/우-‘ 삽입은 기저보문의 응축을 표지하는 동일기능의 통사기제임을 보이면서, 중세국어의 ‘-오/우-‘는 기저의 통사구조를 통해서만 유기적인 일반화가 가능함을 시도하였다.

; In the Middle Korean, there has peculiar structures according to the occurances of ‘-오/우-‘ formation. Concerning to ‘-오/우-‘ formation, we can find representative studies by many scholars. In those studies, various attemps has made to dealt the topics as first person accusative inflectional suffix on the morphological levels, or speaker’s volitative form as a prefinal endings with the semantic connotations, or emotional mood which divided into both subjective-emotional mood formation to the first person subject and objective-emotional mood formation to the other aspects, or emotional representation of egocentric disposition which occures between predicative endings and ‘-오/우-‘ formation. However, it is difficult to generalize ‘-오/우-‘ formation through the structuralistic approaches which deals mainly to the analysis of surface structures. Because of these circumstances, the author intended to survey ‘-오/우-‘ formation through the approaches of generative grammar. In this thesis, the author tried to set up the conditions of the ‘-오/우-‘ occurrences in the complement formations, and also to set up abstract performative sentences those correlate with first person structures to show the derivation of the predicative surface structures from performative complement deep sentences. Sentences with ‘-오/우-‘ formation has the following underlying structures: S → NP VP VP → (NP)(NP) V NP → S(N) N When the structures stated above are contracted into unexplicite performative sentences, SxNP + VP-, through Equip-NP deletion, ‘-오/우-‘ is inserted as a reduced marker of the underlying structures. In addition to the above, when the various phenomena such as thought, feeling, intention are inserted into the ‘말하다(saying)verbs, ‘-오/우-‘ also inserted into embedding verb stem, and also ‘-오/우-‘ which seems to appears indifferently in the surface structures has organic phenomena those derived from the corresponding underlying structures. In the structures that refelects speaker’s cognitive attitudes, ‘-오/우-‘ is inserted into surface under the conditions such as subjects of superordinate and embedding sentences has correferential subject, and then cognitive elements take place in the contraction of sentences. In the feeling-expressive sentences, if the sentences embedding predicative sentences, ‘-오/우-‘ inserted into the sentences to show the relationship between the interrelated indicative structures of the feeling-expressive markers and predicative ,markers. On the other hand, ‘-오/우-‘ which appears with the future tense ‘-리-‘ has close relationship with the intention of ‘말하다’ verbs which bears correferential structures between superordinate and embedding subjects of the sentences. Even though ‘-오/우-‘ occures in the different surface structures, when the ‘-오/우-‘ derived from different transformational categories of the corresponding underlying structures, insertion of the ‘-오/우-‘ show same syntactic bases which has contractions of the underlying complement sentence. Therefore, to observe syntactic structure of ‘-오/우-‘ formation in the Middle Korean, it can be possible through the organic generalization of the underlying syntactic structures.
