하마의 상징성을 통한 풍자적 표현

Abstract

상징은 임의의 기원을 가진 인간의 가장 오랜 언어의 한 형식이다. 이것은 막연히 주관적인 세계를 형태와 확실성을 지니는 것으로 이미지화 시키는 것을 의미하며, 형상이 직접 나타내는 것 외에 어떤 것을 암시한다. 예술은 하나의 상징적 형식이며 동물은 시대를 불문하고 구체화되는 상징의 소재로 풍부하게 나타난다. 사회의 문제점이나 여러 현상을 비판하면서도 웃음으로 공격적인 성향의 적대감을 줄여 표출하는 저항 기술인 풍자는 억압된 현실을 고발하고 심리적으로 닫혀있는 쾌락의 감정을 개방시켜 갈등을 해소하며 정신적인 균형을 찾아준다. 갈등, 구속, 절망, 불안이 얽힌 현실에 대한 비판을 위해 풍자의 활용으로 본인의 작업에 나타난 꿈과 현실의 괴리감을 효과적으로 표현한다. 동물은 이상적인 목표나 기원의 상징을 담아 일부분의 특징이 강조되기도 하고 이미 만들어져있는 이미지가 차용되기도 하며 낯선 이미지로 변형되어 표현되기도 한다. 동물은 단순히 자연에 존재하는 하나의 물체라기보다는 사람과 마찬가지로 감정을 표출하고 의사를 전달하는 주체로서 화재가 될 수 있다. 본인은 동물 중에 하마라는 구체적인 소재로 창작해오고 있다. 크기와 힘의 생태적인 특성을 비롯하여 서식지인 아프리카의 자유와 미지의 환상을 상징하고 낮과 밤을 경계로 물과 육지에서의 이중생활은 양면성을 표현하기에 적합한 소재가 되었다. 양면성은 내적인 심리조건이나 사회규범에 억압된 현실과 그 일상 위에 공중부양 된 이상의 차이에서 오는 본인의 갈등과 연관시켰으며 대비되는 구조는 모순적인 소재의 결합으로 시각적인 충격과 신비감을 통해 현실의 나와 꿈꾸는 나의 괴리감을 표현하였다. 채색을 통한 하마의 사실적인 표현과 대비시켜 기성품을 찍어내듯 프레스기를 이용한 판화기법과 인위적인 반복성을 통한 패턴의 활용을 통해 소재와 주제가 어떠한 객관적인 형식으로 구체화 되었는지 살펴보았고 작업의 결과물이 가지는 조형상의 특징을 알아보았다. 이상 연구과정을 통하여 혼미해 있던 작업의 위치와 관계성을 재정립해줌으로써 창작은 욕구의 단계에서 예술로 발전하는 과정이 될 것이며 앞으로의 작업에서 보완해 나아가야하는 발전 방향을 제시할 지표가 될 것이다.;Symbol is a form from one of the oldest forms in human beings that have a temporary origin. Art is one of the symbolic forms and animal has been represented as the subject of symbol that could be concretized regardless of the age. Satire, one of the resistance techniques, criticizes social problems or various phenomena, makes cynical remarks on suppressed reality, enables one to open one's emotion of pleasure and to find one's mental balance and solves the conflicts, while representing it by reducing the aggressive hostility with laughing. By means of using the sacrifice for criticizing the reality combined with conflicts, restriction and despair, I express the estrangement between the dream and reality found in my work effectively. Animal is not simply an object that exists in nature, but it can be a subject that expresses its emotion and transmits its idea like human beings; therefore, it can be a topic of the conversation. I have chosen and worked on hippopotamus as my concrete subject among the animals. It is the symbol of the fantasy of the freedom and the unknown in Africa where it lives as well as the ecological characteristics of the size and force and it is an appropriate subject that can depict the both sides of the water and earth based on day and night. The said both sides are connected with my own conflicts deriving from the differences in my daily life between inner psychological conditions or suppressed reality in social norm and the ideal floated in the air. Meanwhile, I depict my alienation between myself in reality and myself in a dream through visual shock and mystery with the combination of contradicting matters in the process of the contrasting construction. I investigates how objectively the matter and subject are embodied through the application of pattern by the artificial repetition and the art of engraving using the press machine as if one makes the ready-made products by contrasting against the realistic expression of hippopotamus through coloring and I also looks into the formative characteristics that my final work has. Through this process, this study rearrange the location and relationship of the work that has been confusing; meanwhile, creativity will be a process of being developed into art from the stage of desire and will become a guideline that will suggest the direction of future development.
