물에 투영된 삶의 상징적 이미지에 대한 섬유조형 표현

Abstract

우리는 물과 항상 함께 한다. 하지만 생활주변에 너무나 일상적인 모습으로 존재하는 물에 대해 무심히 지나치는 경향이 있다. 그러나 그러한 물은 예로부터 많은 사상가와 예술가에게 생명력을 갖고 있는 존재로 인식되어 왔고, 물이 가지는 모든 다양한 속성을 근거로 하여 물이 갖는 특성에 많은 의미를 부여해 왔다. 본 연구자는 강과 접한 집에서 아쿠아리스(물병자리)의 기운을 받아 태어났다. 어디를 가든 바다, 온천, 유명한 목욕탕 등 물의 원천지를 찾기도 하지만 물에 대한 두려움을 가지기도 하였다. 이러한 과정을 통해서 본 연구자에게 물은 특별한 주제로 다가왔으며, 물을 통해 인간의 삶에 대해 생각하게 되었다. 우리는 물 없이는 존재할 수 없고, 이는 곧 물이 모든 생명체의 근원이며 필수 불가결한 존재임을 알 수 있다. 물은 자연의 원초적인 요소로 생명의 근원성을 이루는 존재이며, 그러한 물에서 느낄 수 있는 이미지를 인간 삶과 연결시켜 작업으로 풀어나가고자 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 물 이미지에서 나타나는 인간 삶의 상징성을 고찰하고 그 조형적 특성을 섬유표현을 통하여 연구 분석하는데 있다. 이론적 배경연구로 Ⅱ장에서는, 우리의 삶 속에서 존재하는 물의 개념을 물리적, 정신적, 순환적 개념으로 나누어 연구를 바탕으로, 물에 투영된 삶의 상징적 이미지에 대해 본 연구자의 주관적 가치를 부여하여 보고자 하였으며, 또한 현대 미술에서 나타난 물 이미지 표현에 대한 연구로 사진자료를 통하여 연구,분석하였다. Ⅲ장에서는 물 이미지를 ‘투명성’과 ‘중첩’을 통해 형상화 할 수 있음을 확인하고, 물 이미지 형상화 방법을 연구, 제시하였으며, 또한 현대 섬유미술에서 나타난 ‘투명성’과 ‘중첩’의 표현에 대한 연구로 사진자료를 통하여 연구,분석하였다. 작품제작에 있어서 평직기법으로 제직하는 것을 기본으로 시작하여, 각 작품마다 사용되는 재료, 색채, 그리고 질감을 달리함으로써, 각각의 물 이미지를 형상화하였다. 상기의 연구를 토대로, 물 이미지를 형상화한 5점의 작품을 제작하였으며, 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 물 이미지를 인간 삶의 상징성과 연결하여 ‘어둠이 드리운 물’, ‘혼란의 물’, ‘흐르는 물 Ⅰ,Ⅱ’, ‘맑은 물’의 다섯 가지 주제로 분류하고, 단순화, 추상화, 사실화하여 재구성하여, 다양한 물의 이미지를 형상화 할 수 있었다. 둘째. 작품의 투명성으로 인하여 가벼운 조형미와 중첩의 효과, 그리고 빛과 그림자의 효과를 얻음으로써, 인간 삶이 투영되어 나타나는 물의 이미지를 형상화하기에 적합하였다. 셋째, 작품의 주재료로 사용된 스티로폼 본드는 건조된 후 생기는 기포와 투명성으로 인해 물 이미지 표현에 적합하였고, 다른 소재와 결합했을 경우 새로운 재질로 변하였다. 넷째, 설치에 있어서, 벽면에 일정한 거리를 두어 설치하여 벽면에 생기는 그림자 효과를 통하여 작품의 투명성을 부각시켜 작품 스케일을 확장시키며, 투명성을 지닌 여러 개의 피스 작업을 넓은 공간 안에 배열하여 중첩의 효과와 보는 각도와 방향에 따라 서로 다른 형태와 질감, 색채를 통해 다양한 분위기를 조성화 하도록 하였다. 이러한 과정을 통해 앞으로도 물의 이미지를 더욱 효과적으로 형상화하는 방법을 연구,발전시키고자 하며, 더 나아가 본 연구자의 연구과정과 작품을 바탕으로 현대 섬유예술에 있어 좀더 새로운 시도와 깊이를 더하는 연구방향을 제시해 나가기를 기대한다.;People always live with water. However, they tend to pass it through or think it worthlessly as the water existed in the form of our daily lives. But the water has been recognized as the existence of life-giving to many philosophers and artists, and many significant meanings have conferred on its features with the various properties since the ancient time. I was born with the energy of Aquarius in the house adjacent to the river. Wherever I went, I happened to find the origins of water such as the sea, hot springs and famous bathes; however, I usually have been afraid of water. In this process, the water has been so special to me and it has enabled me to think of human life through the water. Therefore, the meaning of water from ordinary life became special to this study, and it makes people to think of their life, and to acknowledge the change of common point of view by giving the emotional intrinsic value through the expression of material, color and texture, and subjectively modification with the association of water image. We cannot exist without the water, that is, we recognize itself as the origin of all life and indispensable being. I would like to raise the diversified images of water by connecting it into the human life, as water is the basic elements constituting the essence of being. The objective of this study contemplates the symbol of human life represented from the image of water and analyzes its formative characteristics through the expression of texture. As a study on the theoretical background in chapter II, I wanted to give it a subjective meaning and value for the symbolic image of human life reflected in the water and have studied the concept of water divided into physical, spiritual and circular terms; based on this study, we have studied and analyzed it through the pictures as a study on the expression of the image of water depicted in modern art. In Chapter III, we could confirm that the image of water were to be formulated through the 'transparency' and 'reiteration' and some methods of forming the image of water has been studied and suggested; in addition to this, the expression of 'transparency' and 'reiteration' represented in modern fiber art has been studied and analyzed with the aid of picture materials. On the side of methodology, starting from the basic weaving method, it configures the feature of each water images using different raw materials, colors and textures, and different constructing methods for the art pieces. 5 pieces of water images were produced based on the above statement and the results are as follows. First, the water images were connected with the symbolism of human beings and they could be classified by five themes representing the water stained with darkness,'the water of chaos,'the flowing water I and II,' and 'the clean water' and they were reformulated by the process of simplification, abstraction and realization so that various images of water could be formed. Second, it was appropriate to formulate the image of water reflected in human life by means of obtaining the light formative beauty, the effect of reiteration and light and shadow. Third, the Styrofoam bond is used in main material of the art works for 1. Describing the water image due to its bubbles and transparency after dry 2. Changing its fine and soft features into new form of textile by combining weaved fabric. Fourth, in the process of setting, the works are 1. Emphasized the water image visually by arranging those art pieces linearly long 2. Expanded the scale of the art pieces which raises the transparency through the effect of color shades on the wall by keeping its distance 3. Built up the effect of reiteration arranging several pieces of works with transparency in wide space, and of various atmospheres through the different style, texture and color along the angle and direction. Finally, in this process, I would like to study and develop the methods of formulating the images of water in a more effective way; furthermore, I would like others to suggest the direction of other research with new attempts in modern fiber art based on my research process and works.
