펠트 재질감에 의한 인테리어 패브릭 패턴디자인

Abstract

급격하게 발달하는 현대사회의 과학기술과 변화하는 문명은 예술가들에게도 큰 변화를 가져왔다. 순수예술과 디자인, 아티스트와 디자이너의 구분이 없어지면서 현대 미술 또한 발전해왔다. 아티스트는 디자인을 응용하고 디자이너는 아트의 영향을 받는 이 시대에 있어 모든 예술영역에는 고유한 문화적 주체성(identity)이 절실히 요구되고 있으며, 이로써 인식되는 한 영역으로서의 예술은 시대와 지역, 사회환경의 가치 기준에 의해 파생된 인위적인 산물이 되어 끊임없는 변화와 개선의 결과로 문화를 가늠하는 기준이 될 수 있다. 현대 산업사회 구조 속에서 기계화되어 지는 인간은 자아 주체를 상실해 가고 있다. 이의 회복을 위하여 예술가들의 창작활동에 있어서도 전통과 혁신의 적절한 조화를 중요시하고 보다 가치 있는 디자인을 창출하기 위한 노력이 요구되어 진다. 디자인은 어떠한 사물의 형태가 인간에게 왜 어필하는가를 규명해 가는 논리적 차원에서 이루어져야하므로 어떤 개념으로 만들 것인지 하는 디자인 컨셉(design concept)이 무엇보다 중요하다. 또한 소득수준이 높아지면서 소비자들은 제품의 기능뿐 아니라 자신의 감성이나 스타일도 중시하게 되었다. 이러한 추세에 따라 개성화, 다양화를 전략 목표로 정하고 디자인을 계획해야 할 것이다. 또한 인간생활의 목적에 따라 실용적이고 미적인 조형성을 갖춘, 생산자와 소비자의 욕구를 충족시키는 매개체가 되며, 동시에 인간과 사회, 인간과 자연 그리고 사회와 자연을 맺는 디자인을 개발해야 할 것이다. 현대사회를 살며 오브제화 된 현대미술에 싫증과 소외를 느끼는 현대인에게 자연의 중요성을 다시 인식시키고 주변에서 흔히 볼 수 있으면서도 쉽게 지나치기 쉽지만 인간에게 많은 것을 제공하는 '나무'를 주제로 하여 생물학적 특성과 나무 수피와 잎맥을 모티브로 빛, 공간, 계절에 따라 변화되는 모습을 '시각화'하는 연구를 하였다. 현재 직물의 트랜드는 재질감에 많은 중점을 두고 있다. 이러한 상황에서 프린트 텍스타일 패턴의 개발은 패턴의 개발이라기 보다, 패턴과 함께 패턴의 재질감 개발을 필요로 한다. 본 연구자는 이러한 관점으로 나무 수피와 나뭇잎의 이미지를 펠트(felt)라는 공예기법을 활용하여 텍스추어(texture)를 개발하는 패턴 디자인을 하였다. 이렇듯 인간과 자연이 친화될 수 있는 친환경적인 인테리어 디자인에서 시각적인 요소인 패브릭(fabric)의 창의적 패턴을 연구하기 위하여 첫째, 자연 환경의 중심인 나무 수피와 잎맥을 주제로 디자인하였다. 둘째, 동물성 섬유인 양모와 식물성 섬유인 면 거즈를 혼합하는 펠트 직물을 제작하여 새로운 질감 표현을 유도하였다. 셋째, 제작된 이미지를 디지털 텍스타일 프린팅(Digital Textile Printing : DTP)하여 패브릭을 제작하였다. 이러한 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 현재까지 무수히 많이 작품의 주제로 선택되었던 나무를 연구자의 시각으로 표현하여 기존의 패브릭에서 보여지는 이미지와 차별화를 시도하였다. 둘째, 질감 표현에 중점을 두어 차별화된 디자인을 완성, 형태, 색채, 재질이 유기적으로 연결되도록 하여 패턴의 새로운 이미지를 창조하였다. 셋째, 새로운 이미지를 디지털 텍스타일 프린팅하여 실제화 함으로써 제작의 용이성을 가질 수 있었다. 마지막으로 현재 인테리어 디자인의 흐름에 나타나는 자가드(Jacquard) 중심 패브릭의 선호를 수공예에 기초를 둔 펠트와 디지털 텍스타일 프린팅 (DTP)에 의한 제작과정을 개발함으로써 창의적이고 독창적인 패턴 디자인을 제시하고 고부가가치 상품화에 기여하는 방안을 제시하고자 하였다.;Rapidly evolving todays science technology and culture have brought big changes to artists. The collapsing of the boundary between fine art and design, artist and designer have brought a big development to modern art. While artists apply design and designers are inspired by fine art, a unique cultural identity is required in every areas of fine art in these days. Therefore, art should be the result generated by the ages, environment, and social standards. So it could be recognized as a standard of culture that has been a result of continuous improvement and reformation. Human beings are loosing their identities as they are mechanized in a modern industrial society. To recover their identities, the creative activities of artists require proper balance of tradition and innovation as well as efforts to create more valuable design. Design concept is more important that any others since it is based upon the logic behind the shapes of objects attracting human senses. Moreover, people put the value to their tastes and styles as well as the functions of products. According to this trend, design should be planned based on the strategic goals of individualization and diversification. Also, a desirable design needs to be developed satisfying the following conditions. First, it has to have aesthetic form and practical functions. Second, it must be a medium that satisfies the desires of producer and consumer. Finally, it must define the cohesive relations between human society and nature. This study undergoes the following procedures. First, it emphasizes the importance of nature. Second, it uses bark and leaf structure of tree to visualize the changes of the place, light, space and seasons. Finally, it visualizes the virtual touch of an object that is intangible. To develop the creative fabric pattern in the visual element of environment-friendly interior design, following procedures are made: 1. Collecting the information of the visual structure of leaves and the bark of a tree. 2. Grafting the wool-treated felt and the cotton gauche to create the new textural expression. 3. Producing a work by combining a felt and gauche. This work is computerized and uses digital textile printing (DTP), which solves the environmental problem of waste materials and water from the printing process, to create the environment-friendly fabric. By creating and analyzing the work through the research, it came up to the following conclusions: First, the new visual expression of the tree, which has been the object in various artworks, is shown. Second, it emphasizes on the texture expression differentiating from the other design works, enhancing the aesthetic value through the cohesive relationship of color, form, and composition. Third, it uses a computer as a tool to develop the functional textile design to minimize the problem which felt carries. Finally, it combines the felt work based on the handcraft of jacquard fabric and DTP to show the new way of textile printing design and to bring the work to high quality product through the functional design of handcrafted works.
