섬유조직 이미지를 응용한 패턴디자인의 조형성 연구

Abstract

섬유는 인간생활의 기본요소인 의·식·주의 문제를 해결하기 위한 재료로서 예로부터 인간과 떨어질 수 없는 밀접한 연관성을 가지고 그 시대의 사회, 문화적 특성이 함축되어 있으면서 동시에 그 시대의 기술과 문명이 축적되어 있는 산물로서의 자리를 지키면서 오늘날까지 발전하여 왔다. 본 연구는 이처럼 인간에게 자연스럽고 친근한 소재인 섬유를 대상으로 섬유가 갖고 있는 위사와 경사의 특성을 살리면서, 또한 그것들이 연속적으로 결합될 때에 얻을 수 있는 섬유조직의 무한한 형태에서 창조되는 예술성에 접근해 보고자 하였다. 한 걸음 더 나아가서 모티브의 대상을 극대화하여 가시적 시각에서 미시적 시각으로 옮겨 새로운 풍경의 이미지를 발견하고, 이를 패턴화하여 패턴 염색 디자인의 표현 가능성을 확대시키는 데에 그 목적을 두었다. 본 연구의 이론적 배경으로는 먼저 가시적 세계와 마이크로 세계에 대한 일반적인 미학적 측면을 살펴보고, 표현대상과 이미지에 대해 예술사 관계문헌을 통해 연구한 후 본 논제의 모티브인 섬유조직에 적용시켜 패턴디자인의 조형성 연구에 응용하였다. 작품 제작에 앞서, 디자인 과정에서는 섬유 이미지를 꼴라쥬 또는 중첩시켜서 자연스럽고 생동감 있는 표현이 되도록 조형화 하였다. 즉 가시적으로 다가온 이미지를 기본형태로 하여, 새로운 시각으로 발견한 마이크로 세계의 이미지를 여러 가지 방법으로 혼합하여 디자인함으로써 상상하지 못했던 다양한 형태를 창출하여 현대인의 예술적 심상에 다가가고자 하였다. 현미경을 통하여 과학자의 눈에 잡힌 새로운 풍경을 예술가는 그 자신의 언어인 표현의 수단에 의해 만인이 이해하고, 의도가 전달될 수 있는 이미지를 창조하여 고부가가치가 있는 창의적인 디자인으로 끌어올릴 수 있을 때에 새로운 시각으로 발견한 세계는 예술에 있어서 중요한 표현대상의 한 분야를 차지할 수 있기 때문이다. 표현기법으로는 완성된 디자인을 시시각각 변하는 하늘 이미지의 색상으로 수공예 염색한 바탕 위에 컴퓨터 프린팅 함으로 손맛이 주는 부드러운 느낌과 과학적이고 기계적인 느낌의 조화에서 오는 표현을 시도해 보았다. 즉 이제까지는 구분되어 사용해왔던 수공예 염색과 컴퓨터 프린팅의 경계를 없애고 혼합 사용함으로서 창의적 디자인을 위한 발상의 전환으로 삼았다. 과학과 예술의 조화에서 오는 새로운 패턴 창작의 시도로 창의적인 디자인 개발에 기여하여 패턴의 다양화, 전문화 시대의 추세에 따라 다각적인 표현의 기능성을 시사하는 디자인에 대한 필요성이 주목되고 있는 시대적 흐름에 부응하고자 하였으며, 패턴의 예술적 표현과 새로운 것에 도전하는 창의성과 심미성을 개발하고자 하였다. 이러한 과정을 통해 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 본 연구의 모티브로 선택한 섬유조직은 표현대상으로 적합하여 연구자의 표현 욕구를 고조시킬 수 있었고, 표현을 통해 대상의 재현이 아닌 작가의 고유성이 반영된 창조적인 형태로 재구성되어야 함을 알았다. 둘째 작품제작에 있어서 표현기법은 매우 중요함으로 기법의 다양화를 시도하여 혼합기법의 사용으로 평면적 패턴의 단조로움을 보완하여 변형된 조형성을 표현할 수 있는 자유로운 기법을 실현하였다. 셋째, 색채의 조화에서 오는 다양한 색채 이미지가 내적 심상을 표현하는데 있어서 정신적이고 효과적인 역할을 할 수 있다고 생각하였고, 디자인에 맞는 색채계획은 그 디자인의 성공여부를 결정하는 중요한 작업임을 인식하여 감성적이고 아름다운 자연의 색상으로 차별성 있게 디자인을 마무리할 수 있었다. 마지막으로, 21세기 과학과 정보의 시대를 살아가는 디자이너로서 과학의 변화에 민감하게 반응하면서도 개성적인 디자인작업을 묘사하고, 예술적 감각과 과학적 표현기술을 융합한 고부가가치의 패턴디자인 개발에 기여하고자 한다.;As one of the materials to solve human's basic livelihood issues - clothing, food and housing - textiles have developed a close relationship with human accommodating social and cultural characteristics of each age it belonged to and representing its accumulated technology and fate. This study has chosen the textile, which is natural and familiar to human, as its subject, and is designed to show the characteristics of its every single filament and bring out its artistic quality that its infinite structures create when intertwined with one another in succession. Furthermore, this study has a goal to increase the possibility of expression by maximizing the subject of the motive and transferring it to the perspective of the micro world from the macro to discover a new image, and making it a pattern. To have theoretical backup, this study has examined the general aesthetic aspect of visible and invisible worlds, reviewed art history-related documents and references on subjects of expression and image and then applied them to the motive of this subject - the textile structure - for the study of modeling pattern design. In the designing process prior to the project production, the textile images were collaged or overlapped to make them look lively and natural. That is to say, this came from an effort to appeal to today's artistic minds by combining and designing visible images with the newfound images in the micro world. This effort is to demonstrate the belief that a newfound world caught by scientists' eyes will be enhanced as an important field of artistic expression only when artists can make its image understandable and appreciable to the public with their own language, expression, and develop it into a high value-added creative design. A technique of expression adopted was to put the completed design on the manually dyed material which shows changing colors of the sky and then computer-print it so that it could project a combination of hand-made softness, and scientific and machine-like solid sensation. This presents the theory in practice that the adoption of new wats of thinking in itself is a pattern as it has brought a breakdown of boundaries existing between manual dyeing and computer-printing. This attempt of creating a new pattern employing the combination of science and art was aimed to contribute to the development of more up-to-date and creative designs. This effort is believed to help to respond to today's trend that increasingly emphasizes the needs of designs demonstrating the possibility of various expressions in line with patterns that show an increasing variety and specialization. This attempt was also aimed to develop creative and aesthetic minds to find new artistic expressions of patterns. The following are the conclusions drawn from these efforts. First, the choice of a proper material as a subject of enhancing the artist's desire for expression should be creatively restructured to reflect the artist's uniqueness, not simply to redemonstrate the subject itself. Secondly, the techniques of expression were so important that it was worth attempting to diversity them so as to prevent falling prey to monotonousness and create different models. Thirdly, the designing work was able to be finished in distinct sentimental and beautiful colors of nature, thanks to the belief that varying color image could play a psychological and effective role to express internal image and employing of colors suitable for the design was critical to determine the design's success. Finally, as a designer living in the 21st century of science and information age, I would like to contribute to the development of high value-added pattern design that responds sensibly to the changes of science and allows unique description of design work, and links artistic sense and scientific expression technique.
