선인장의 형태를 응용한 조형도자 연구

Abstract

자연은 우리에게 삶의 터전이 되고 아름다움을 느낄 수 있는 무한한 대상이 된다. 예술의 소재는 작가의 주관적 경험이나 감흥으로 얻어지는데, 형태의 다양함과 함께 그 안에 질서정연한 조화를 지닌 자연은 아름다움을 느낄 수 있는 대상을 제공해 주기 때문에 예술 작품의 끊임없는 소재가 되어왔다. 그 중 선인장 역시 자연의 일부로 여러 가지 이미지의 연상과 더불어 아름다운과 생명감을 주는 조형 소재로 작용한다. 선인장의 형상은 다양한 모습만큼이나 내면의 조형의지를 표현할수 있는 가능성을 지닌 대상이 되기 때문에 자연의 소재 중에서도 선인장은 우리 생활에서 볼 수 있는 친근한 대상으로 많은 예술작품의 소재로 되어 왔다. 본 연구자는 어린 시절부터 관심을 가지고 보았던 선인장을, 실상의 체험과 이론적 바탕으로 얻어진 선인장에 대한 형상으로, 조형성을 중시하는 현대미술의 흐름과 뜻을 같이 하면서 작품의 대상으로 선택하여 표현하였다. 특히 점토의 특성을 이해하고 효과적으로 활용하는 것은 표현의 극대화에 중요한 요건이 되므로 본 연구의 형태에 따라 점토의 표현기법을 달리하여 나타내었다. 선인장의 독특한 형태는 변화 있는 외형만큼이나 내재된 조형의지를 표현할 수 있는 가능성을 지닌 대상이 되기 때문에 연구자의 주관적인 감성과 의지로 다양한 변화를 통해 새롭게 재구성하고 표현하여 도자예술로서 조형화 하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 이를 위한 이론적 배경으로는 자연이 예술의 근원으로 작용함에 대해 알아보고, 자연의 소재중 선인장의 가시적인 형태와 내재된 아름다움을 자연과 예술의 개념을 파악함으로서, 그 관계를 살피고, 선인장의 생태학적 고찰을 통하여 연구 대상에 대한 주관적, 객관적 이미지의 범위를 넓혀 선인장의 조형적 특징을 알아본다. 조형 전개 과정에서는 선인장의 다양한 형태를, 연구자의 감성과 해석을 통하여 현대적인 감각으로 표현하고자 하였다. 작품을 제작함에 있어 흙이 본래 지니는 부드러운 물성과 자유로운 표현을 바탕으로 선인장의 독특한 아름다움을 연구자의 미의식과 해석을 통해 도자조형 작품을 제작해 보고자 하였다. 작품 제작시 성형방법은 선인장이 본래 지니고 있는 형태의 자연스러운 형태의 표현을 위해 석고 이장 주입성형과 판성형, 속파기, 석고틀을 이용한 압축 성형 등 다양하고 자유로운 표현을 시도하였다. 태토는 성형시 강도와 질감과 점력이 좋은 석기질 점토<작품 6, 7, 9, 10>와 선인장의 유연함과 강인함을 동시에 표현하기에 적합한 백점토<작품 1> 자기질 점토인 Silk white <작품 3, 4, 5, 8> 산백토<작품 2> 등을 사용하였다. 유약처리는 선인장이 지니는 본래의 색채를 생각하여 백매트유<작품 2, 6, 7>, 무광택 청동유, 무광택 녹색유, 무광택 코발트유, 광택 동유<작품 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9,10>, 무광택 흑유<작품 10>, 투명유(3, 4, 5, 8> 등을 사용하여 선인장의 다양한 색채와 형태의 질감을 나타내었으며 영국 Johnson Matthey사의 14R 32-L. Brown, 14K 236-Yellow, 14P 77-Red 안료를 착색<작품 10>하여 사용하였다. 소성방법은 0.3㎥전기가마로 810℃로 8시간 동안 1차 소성하였고 2차 소성은 0.3㎥전기가마로 최고온도 1240℃로 10시간 산화염 소성하였다. <작품 2, 4, 9>는 2차 소성에서의 발색을 보완하여 상회용 안료를 사용하여 같은 가마에서 최고온도 800℃로 8시간 동안 3차 소성하였다. 본 연구를 통해 예술의 근원인 자연의 아름다움의 가치를 발견하여 조형의지와 시각을 넓히고, 선인장의 다양하고 변화 있는 형태와 미적 가치를 새롭게 발견하여, 풍부한 상상력과 표현 가능성을 모색하였다. 또한 신선한 감동과 흥미를 주는 선인장의 조형성은 매력적인 소재가 될 수 있었다. 연구자의 주관적인 감성과 해석을 통한 보다 새로운 이미지로 표현하는데 있어서 흙이 본래 지니는 부드러운 물성과 풍부한 표정은 선인장의 아름다움으로 나타내는데 좋은 매체 역할을 하였다. 본 연구로 선인장에 대한 새로운 이해와 접근을 시도할 수 있었고, 나아가 선인장의 형태미 표현을 통해 발전적인 도자예술 창작의 새로운 방향을 제시해 주는 계기를 마련하고자 한다.;Nature gives us the essence of living and holds infinite possibilities to feel beauty. The materials of art are gotten by director's subjective experience and inspiration, nature which include varieties of form and harmony provide the subject that we can feel beauty, so it is used as ceaseless material of art works. Among them, a cactus, is a part of nature, remind us many images and is also used as the material that give beauty and liveliness. The shape of cactus has a lot of possibilities to express internal formative purose with its various appearances and we can see it very easily around us, so it have been used as materials of many art works. The cactus that I have been interested from my childhood and gotten its form with my experience and theoretical background was chosen as the subject of art works with the stream of modern art that think of the formative quality. Especially, It is very important for maximizing the expression of art works to understand the properties of clay and use it effectively, so it is used different expression with according to the way of this research. The special shape of a cactus has many possibilities to express internal formative purpose with its various appearances, so it is set up a purpose to model ceramic arts with expressing researcher's subjective sensitivity and will to reform and represent. For the background research, it will look into the action of nature as the origin of art and understand the shape and internal beauty of a cactus, a concept of nature and ort, consider its relations, and enlarge the range of the images about the subject of research through considering the mode of life of a cactus. On the process of formative development, the works are expressed a unique shape and a internal tough beauty through the subjective sensitivity and interpretation with modern sense. It was trying to make a ceramic art work through understanding the researcher's aesthetic sense and expressing the unique beauty if a cactus with soft properties of clay and abilities of free expression. In the producing way, the works created by using the slip-casting technique, slap-building, moulding, press-moulding, for a various expression. The stoneware clay body is good in a strength texture, and stickiness used to <work 6,7,9,10>. The white clay <work 1,2>, the silkwhite <work 3,4,5,8> also used for softness and strength the cactus has. The forms were glaxed with a white matt glaxe <work 2,6,7>, a non-glossy glaze (bronze, green, and cobalt), a coper glaze <work 1,2,6,7,8,9,10>, a black glaze <work 10> and a clear glaze <work 3,4,5,8> to express main colors of cactus. It is very helpful for various colors, shapes and textures. In case of <work 10> a clay was mixed by colors which made in johnson Matthey Company - 14R 32-L Brown, 14K 236 - Yellow, 14P 77-Red. The firing was conducted in a 0.3㎥ electronic kiln for 8 hours, reaching a temperature of 810℃. The second firing was for 10 hours and this was un-oxidized firing. It reached a temperature of 1240℃ in the same kiln. The third firing to make the b etter color was for 8 hours, reaching a temperature of 800℃ in the same kiln. Through the research, the formative intent with broadened outlook has been extended the beauty of nature being found as fundamental of all art works, and vaious forms and aestheic value of a cactus were discovered, Meanwhile, it has been possible to acquire ability of expression and that of imagination. The formation of a cactus that gives out a fresh impression and interest could be very attractive. When new images are represented with subjective sensitivity and analysis, it is found out that clay can be a good medium for expressing the beauty of a cactus because of soft and various properties of the matter. This research has made it possible to gain new understanding of ceramic arts with a different approach to it. Furthermore, there has been an endeavor to introduce a new aspect of creativity into the development of ceramic arts, through the formative expression of a cactus.
