Abstract

프랑크의 [Violin Sonata in A Major]는 형식면에서는 여러 가지 기법이 집대성된 소나타 형식이며 일반적인 고전 소나타 형식의 3악장 구조가 아닌 4악장 구조를 가지고 있다. 먼저 제 1악장은 발전부가 생략된 소나타 형식으로 반복과 확대, 축소 등 기본적인 방법을 통해 발전을 한다. 제 2악장은 제시부, 발전부, 재현부 구조의 완전한 소나타 형식이며, 제 3악장은 3부형식의 매우 독창적이고 자유로운 형식의 환상곡이다. 제 4악장은 대위법적 구성에 기초한 론도 소나타 형식이며 Canon 양식을 사용하고 있다. 화성과 조성 관계에서, 화성에 있어서는 7화음과 9화음, 비화성음과 불협화음, 그리고 반음계를 많이 사용하여 색채감 있는 분위기를 표현하였다. 이로 인해 특정 부분은 조성적으로 모호할 수 있지만 전체적으로는 조성음악 체계 속에서 진행된다. 조성에 있어서는 제 1악장, 제 2악장은 제 1주제가 제 2주제에서는 딸림조로 전조가 되고, 재현부에서는 원조로 돌아오는 고전적인 형식을 갖는다. 그러나 제 3악장과 제 4악장은 주제 간의 조성관계가 근친조로 전조되는 특징을 갖는다. 선율면에서는 3개의 순환동기가 확대, 축소, 파생 등의 변화를 통하여 전 악장에서 사용되어 작품 전체의 통일감을 더한다. 그리고 규칙적이고 비교적 짧은 악구와 복잡하고 다양한 리듬이 잘 조화되어 있으며 바이올린과 피아노가 대위법적인 기법을 통해 동등한 위치에서 작품을 구성하는 점도 중요한 특징이다. 살펴본 바와 같이 프랑크의 [Violin Sonata in A Major]는 고전적 형식을 바탕으로 프랑크만의 독특한 낭만적인 음악어법을 구사한 작품이다. 전통적인 소나타 형식에 반음계적 화성과 낭만적인 요소를 더하였으나 전형적인 낭만주의의 특징인 장식적이고 화려함이 아닌 신앙심이 깃든 순수하고 경건한 음악으로 완성시켰다. 그리고 순환동기에 의한 선율 전개로 작품 전제적인 통일성과 자신만의 독특한 개성을 표현하였는데, 이 순환동기의 사용은 모차르트와 베토벤부터 시작된 순환형식을 발전, 진화시켜 제시한 것이며 이와 같은 특징들로 인해 위대한 작품으로 평가되고 있다.;Cesar Franck was a famous composer, organist, sacred musician and music teacher who contributed in developing instrumental music of the late Romantic period. He combined German with French style in music and Classical form with Romantic elements. He used frequent modulations, harmonic transitions, chromatic elements and cyclic form based on the structure from the Classical period. These use of different forms and cyclic motives added unity to a piece. Violin Sonata in A Major is one of his best known compositions which shows unique and various compositional styles. Overall structure of this work is in sonata form with various compositional technique. Unlike a traditional sonata form of three movements structure, it is written in four movements with free, improvisatory style of Recitative-Fantasia movement added as the third. The use of 7th and 9th chord, non-chordal tone, dissonance, and chromatic scales add a colorful mood to a harmony. In terms of melody, three motives are used in all movements through expansion, reduction, and derivative which bring a unity to a piece. Another noticeable feature of this work is that contrapuntal writing gives both solo violin and piano an important and equal voices. From what is mentioned above, Franck's Violin Sonata is a fine composition which incorporates his native romantic music language based on Classical structure. He added chromaticism and romanticism to a traditional sonata form, while avoiding from Romantic extreme of expression and keeping it pure and religious. The use of cyclic themes throughout the piece brings unity and uniqueness to music. Franck developed this technique one step further from that of Mozart and Beethoven which makes this composition one of the great compositions.
