기업 정보기술 투자의 통합 성과모형의 실증연구

Abstract

정보기술의 가치는 무엇인가? 정보기술에 대한 투자는 어떻게 기업 성과에 영향을 미치는가에 대한 질문은 근래에 들어 업계와 학계 모두에서 관심사가 되어 왔다. 기업들은 급변하는 환경에 적응하여 경쟁우위를 얻고자 정보기술에 대하여 막대한 투자를 하고 있으나 정보기술투자의 성과에 대한 과거의 연구들은 일치된 결론을 제시하지 못했다. 문헌연구를 통하여 분석한 결과, 많은 학자들이 정보기술 투자의 성과에 대한 접근으로써 매개변수나 조절변수를 사용하는 접근모형으로 연구를 진행해야 한다고 주장되었다. 또한 정보기술이 성과를 가져오기 위해 필요한 상황적인 요인 즉 , 정보기술 관리활동이 무형의 정보기술 투자로서 고려되어지는 연구는 찾아보기가 힘들다. 이에 본 연구에서는 정보기술의 매개변수와 조절변수를 모두 고려하는 통합모형을 제시하고 정보기술의 성과에 대한 프로세스적 접근으로 매개변수를, production과 coordination의 성과로 설정하여 보다 구체적이고 정확한 관계를 규명하였다. 정보기술의 성공적인 실행을 위한 관리활동 변수로서 정보시스템 계획과 비즈니스 계획의 연계, 최고 경영층의 지원, 교육 및 훈련, 프로세스 혁신의 조절 효과가 있음을 검증하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이었다. 연구를 위해 우리나라의 65개 상장 제조기업의 전산부서의 임원을 대상으로 설문하였다. 측정항목은 정보기술 투자 4문항, 조절변수와 관련된 항목 14문항, production과 coordination의 성과에 관한 17문항, 일반사항에 관한 5문항으로 구성하였으며 각 항목 당 5점척도로 평가하였으며, 자료분석은 SPSS WIN 10.0 을 사용하였다. 실증결과, 정보기술 투자는 production과 coordination의 성과를 증가시켰으며,ix정보기술 관리활동으로서 정보시스템 계획과 비즈니스 계획의 연계, 최고 경영층의 지원, 교육 및 훈련, 프로세스 혁신이 잘 될수록 성과를 높인다는 가설을 지지하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 정보기술을 통한 production과 coordination의 성과가 기업재무성과 중 장기적 성과인 3년 평균이익 성장율에는 유의적인 영향을 미쳤지만, 단기적 성과인 ROI와는 유의적인 관계가 없었다. 이는 정보기술에 대한 투자로 단기적인 비용이 증가하였기 때문이라 생각한다. 마지막으로 정보기술 투자와 기업성과의 직접모형보다 정보기술의 일차적 효과인 매개변수(production과 coordination의 성과)와 기업성과와의 관계인 간접효과 모형을 실증한 결과, 정보기술 투자의 기업성과와의 직접모형 보다 더 설명력 있는 모델인 것으로 검증되었다. 본 연구와 관련하여 앞으로의 연구 방향은 정보기술 투자와 성과에 대한 자료의 시차에 대한 극복과 좀 더 설득력 있는 결과를 도출하기 위한 표본수의 증대가 이루어져야 하겠다. 또한 특정한 정보기술로 한정하지 않은 관계로, 성과에 대한 일반화가 어려웠다. 향후의 연구에서는 좀 더 구체적인 연구모형 설계와 함께, 특정한 정보기술로 한정하여 진행할 필요성이 있겠다.;What is the value of information technology? How does investment in IT affect productivity? These questions and their variations have been the focus of considerable business and academic attention in recent years because of the massive investments being made in IT by business. Unfortunately, beyond a few isolated incidents, research has not been able to demonstrate strong linkages between the investment in IT and a wide variety of performance measure. The performance impact of IT investment is an important research topic that that need to take into consideration the role of key contextual factors and intermediate factors. This study discussed integrated model and empirically tested the moderating effects of Information Systems Planning and Business Planning alignment, top management support, IT education and training, process innovation on the impact of IT investment on firm performance, mediating effects of performance of production and coordination on firm performance. The study sample consisted of Korea manufacturing firms. The empirical result, based on moderating regression analysis, provided evidence supportive of the hypothesis advanced in this paper. In sum, the results of this study indicate that relationship between IT Investment and performance of mediating factors (production and coordination) is positive significantly depending on moderating factors. However, relationship between performance of production and coordination and financial performance is positive partially. According to my findings, companies considering IT investment should manage IT management activities (Information Systems Planning and Business P lanning alignment, top management support, IT education and training, process innovation).
